One of my most anticipated Game of 2009. A jewel.
edited : early 2010.

Yeah..i can\'t wait for heavy rain...it looks like it plays like indigo prophecy...and i have no problem with that,...it\'s good to see that you\'ll have a couple of ways to approach each situation...that last scene was a bit intense and the guy in that house seems to be a real psycho...good stuff.
-
As a bonus, I\'ve read that the devs seem to be steering clear of the sci-fi mess that most people say ruined the Indigo Prophecy story line.

Can\'t wait for this one.
-
This is the old build ... which means they still work on gameplay / control system.
Alot of fuckers & whiners are yelling QTE\'s=FAIL.
Yet, I don\'t think they\'ll have such QTE\'s in the sense of timed sequences
in Heavy Rain. The "press triangle-circle-square quick enough or die", type of QTE\'s are very lame indeed.
I think it will be more like having onscreen prompts to interact with environmental variables & objects when you guide your character there.
-
I don\'t mind the QTE\'s. As long as all of the action scenes aren\'t QTE\'s, i\'m good,... and the only difference with QTE\'s are that they are cutscenes that you participate in instead of watching after you\'ve completed a certain criteria of the game....the story looks like it\'s going to be interesting as well.

An interview with David Cage.
After spending three years in pre-production, fifteen months writing and almost two hundred days motion capture shooting, Quantic Dream’s David Cage is ready to talk more about his studio’s upcoming PS3 title, Heavy Rain; a game that he hopes won’t just prove to be an outstanding dark thriller, but a title that will forever change the face of the industry.
D+PAD: Heavy Rain is a brand new IP for Quantic Dream, but just like your previous title, Fahrenheit, you’re looking to break boundaries with storytelling in video games. How do you go about starting a project like Heavy Rain? Do you look at what worked well in Fahrenheit and expand upon those elements, or is it a completely different process?
David Cage: After Fahrenheit, we spent a lot of time reading critics’ opinions and listening to gamers. We also had many things we were not happy with and that we wanted to rethink and change. At the same time, we did not start thinking of Heavy Rain as a sequel, but I had the feeling we found something with Fahrenheit that I wanted to explore further. These ideas of letting the player tell the story through his actions using Bending Stories, of considering the experience as an emotional journey with moral choices, of having short and varied scenes, of moving the challenge from the controller to the mind of the player, all these were interesting concepts that could significantly be improved. But we also had many new ideas that we wanted to implement regarding gameplay and a new technology that allows us to improve the quality of the immersion.
If I had to summarise my motivation for Heavy Rain, it was to create an emotional simulator, use all means to make the player feel something, making an experience rather than just another video game. To achieve this goal, I thought that Fahrenheit opened the way, but that there was much more to do.
Heavy Rain is looking to blur the line between video games and movies. Were you inspired by the work of any particular film creator/director for Heavy Rain, or is the game entirely your own vision?
You are always inspired by other people’s work, not only movies, but also books, TV series, comics, paintings, art in general. Heavy Rain is a dark thriller and I am sure people will find connections with some films we all liked like Silence of the Lambs or Seven. I also really liked a Korean movie call Memories of a Murder and other Asian films. I like Asian cinema, but I also appreciate some Spanish or Spanish-speaking directors like Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth), Alejandro Inarritu (21 Grams, Babel) or Alejandro Amenabar (The Others).
What’s really different for me on Heavy Rain is that it is the first script I’ve written for a game that refers to things I have personally experienced in my life. In most other art forms this is quite usual, but it was something weird to do for me in a video game. Most games talk about rookies going to the battlefield or heroes fighting against the forces of evil, situations that few people actually experienced in their own lives, so they can only try to figure out what it means for their characters.
Heavy Rain is of course not based on my private life, but it is based on emotions that I have experienced myself, which will - I hope – support the story I want to tell and make its emotions more believable. I think our media is now mature enough to tell more personal stories, and I hope that more game designers will start talking about more personal things, because this is how other art forms reached maturity and more complex and interesting forms.
This is probably my main expectation from next gen games. Rather than displaying more polygons or having a physics engine, they should start to offer meaning.

Tito Valverde (Commissioner) and Michelle Jenner (Los hombres de Paco) participate in the dubbing of the Heavy Rain. The two actors known national scene put their voices to characters in the spectacular game of intrigue and terror only for Playstation 3 and developed by Quantic Dream Team.
With the introduction of these two voices in the national picture of the audiovisual world, Sony has confirmed its support for the game of Quantic Dream. Heavy Rain is one of the weight for the catalog of the 2009 Playstation 3. Michelle Jenner, bending to one of the characters said: "When I saw the first images of the game, struck me as from the beginning I felt very comfortable in the dubbing."
Heavy Rain is a title that intrigues and research has a high production value and is among the most anticipated PlayStation 3 users. This title has the current generation of graphics that put particular emphasis on the realism of the characters and environment, and that define it, according to Sony, as an "interactive movie".

I\'am lovin\' this game...i know alot of folks might not be feelin\' this because of the QTE\'s but i don\'t mind it at all....this game is going to be a refreshing break from the mindless drones of FPS and 3rd person shooter blast fests....no silly rocket launchers to be had here. Even tho i fear this game won\'t sell too well *since everybody at the moment is jerkin\' off to FPS\'s*...i still think Sony has a winner here...the character models and visuals in this game are amazing.

i\'ve never played a game like this so i dont know what to think of it. Definitly waiting to see what reviews say and what people who have played the game think about it before touching it.
All im expecting is like 4-ish options every second that lets you decide what to do next...like mass effect dialogue but actually effects how the game is played. dont know if thatll make for an exciting game. But i do like the idea that it\'s harder to see the choices in a stressful situation since your character is stressed out

Heavy Rain Eyes On: Meet Scott Shelby, Private Eye
Quantic Dream\'s Guillaume de Fondaumièr offered us our third official look at the developer\'s PlayStation 3 game Heavy Rain at Gamescom, showing us just a few of the many possibilities that await us in the hi-def choose your own adventure.
Since Quantic Dream had already thoroughly teased the adventures of newly revealed character Ethan Mars at Sony\'s Gamescom press conference, our demo focused on the fourth and final playable character, Scott Shelby. In Heavy Rain, Shelby\'s been hired to do a little detective work on the Origami Killer, in service to those who have long lost loved ones to the mysterious serial killer. The Shelby segment shown to us didn\'t reveal much of the game\'s story line, instead putting a heavy emphasis on its characters and the consequences of their choices.
The brief scene was set in a convenience store run by a man named Hassan, father of one of the Origami Killer\'s victims. Shelby\'s there to interview Hassan, but the private dick finds it hard to get anything out of the shop owner who is clearly still hurting from the loss of his son. Shelby\'s solution? Make use of his proximity to convenience and pick up some asthma inhalers.
Whilst shopping for said inhalers, Hassan\'s Shop is robbed by a young and jittery thief. Shelby, luckily out of sight, has a choice to make...

UPDATE: Heavy Rain Features A Male Shower Scene.
Yeah, you read that right. A week ago, we reported a cryptic tweet from Official Playstation Magazine suggesting that there was also a shower scene in Heavy Rain;
“Heavy Rain preview code GET! Whole team gathered around… to watch @bodbod take a shower. :-/ Looks stunning so far. (Not @bodbod)”
Obviously, we assumed it was Madison, who shows all in a strip scene. However, another tweet from OPM, in response to when the public will be able to see the scene, reveals that it’s a male character having a clean;
“Early next year. (It’s a dude in the shower though.)”
The game is out in 2010 for the PS3.

Why not a shemale ?

Eurogamer Expo 09 - Heavy Rain Hands On Impressions
What followed was another playable dialogue scene. This time i was being held up at gunpoint. I had to hold L1 and R1 to keep my hands in the air, or risk being shot. At the same time as this there are several speaking options floating around the screen, not calm and clear like when talking to Hassan, this time they were shaking around the screen and were pretty blurry too. It\'s a pretty nice touch to be honest with you, it gives you a sense of urgency about the situation and actually made me panic a little and really think about what option would get me the best outcome. Remember, the next move could prove to be Scott\'s last in the game.
I wont ruin what happens next here, but if you really want to know what happens... You can watch our playthrough of this level in the video below.
Visuals? Heavy Rain is without doubt a beautiful looking game. The textures and the detail on the characters and scenery is enough to match any other game i\'ve played, and that includes the previously released Uncharted 2: Among Theives. The voice acting is also superb, i heard only a small part of the 2000+ page script, and i have no complaints at all. Everything just feels so real, which i believe is what Quantic Dream want for one particular reason. They want you to feel attached to the game and characters and actually feel joy or remorse for whatever decision you make. With how real the characters sound and look, it is pretty easy to forget you are playing a videogame and to imagine that these people are just as real as you or I.
Heavy Rain really is shaping up to be something special. Possibly the most character and story driven game ever released. Filled with emotion. Love, hate, fear, anxiety, hope. It really is like playing a movie that you yourself are a part of. While Heavy Rain wasn\'t my favourite game of the show, it was certainly the most intriguing and has shot right up my most wanted list.

I still would like to get dante\'s inferno
just wait a month
the full version comes out march 16th

Anyone tried the demo? Very atmospheric and well presented from the short time that I put in. Going to pick this one up today and give\'r a whirl.
-
waiting for your thoughts ;)
-
I have it. Played a bit today. Waiting for Lona to get done with American Idol to get back on it.
VERY SLOW beginning. They are just really trying to get you to learn to control virtually everything this dude does.
I saw nudity on the rating and was wondering where it is. I hope to god it isn\'t the scene that is at the very beginning... oof......

Yeah, the beginning was painful! I\'m going to reserve judgment until I have a few more hours invested, but the mood is definitely starting to shift and you can see where it inevitably is leading to.
-
Yeah. I played last night until I got to the scene that they always show where the Private I goes into the store. I\'ll try and get to a bit tonight as well.
-
Zavi, have you finished the Game ?
I just tried the Demo and I like it; I had some problems in the first 2, 3 minutes, then I get used with the controls; I will probably get it after God of War3.
edited : HR sold 500,000 first week, very good.
-
I\'m not too into it. I\'ve gotten pretty far, but it\'s pretty boring. If you have some time, I\'d just rent it.

Not finished it yet, though I\'m close to the end. Pretty sure that I\'m going to shelve this game when I\'m done because it\'s not enjoyable enough for a second play though.
Yes, the pacing for me is on the slow side, which I find hard to keep satisfactorily interested. It definitely has it\'s moments, though I feel that most of the interactive parts are quite mundane, I mean having the person take a piss and flush the toilet, or make scrambled eggs seems like nothing more than filler. Although, some of the action based QTE\'s are enjoyable, but I have not encountered enough thus far.
Yes, it\'s beautiful visually, though far from perfect. The voice acting and dialogue leave much to be desired, not to mention that the audio tracks are mysteriously absent at times.
I\'m with Vid here; I feel that it is more worthy as a rental rather than a purchase.

Heavy Rain – DLC Release Date and Patch
Hi everyone – following last month’s launch, it’s been fantastic to see Heavy Rain getting such a good reception – lots of positive feedback, and great sales too! Thanks to all of you out there who’ve supported this innovative game with your comments and enthusiasm.
Firstly, the development team has been working hard to quickly identify and resolve the problems that a small percentage of players have been reporting over the last few weeks. I’m pleased to confirm that a patch will be released today addressing a number of issues – thanks to everyone for their patience.
Those of you who got your hands on a copy of the Collector’s Edition have already had the chance to play Heavy Rain: Chronicle 1 – The Taxidermist. But those of you that didn’t will soon get your chance – this additional playable scene will be available to download through the PlayStation Store from Thursday, April 1st 2010, and it will be priced at €3.99 / £3.19.
Chronicle 1 – The Taxidermist provides additional backstory to Heavy Rain, and focuses on Madison Paige as she investigates a lead that turns unexpectedly perilous. The episode is an expansion and update of the original ‘Taxidermist’ demo that received such a positive response when shown at E3 and gamescom to unveil Heavy Rain back in 2008.

I\'ve finished this game....and while it has some pretty major plotholes....i think it\'s unlike anything you\'ll play this gen....i think this game could\'ve been near perfect if they would\'ve dedicated a wee bit more time in filling up those plotholes...
I\'ve read some of the blogs at IGN, and at the end it seemed like the whole dev team was burnt out from testing and trying to get everything right, but still i think everybody will run into a certain part of the game(granted if nobody dies) that you\'ll be like "how would this person know this? or how did he or she figure that out?"....Still it\'s a great game and it\'s waay better than indigo prophecy.

Heavy Rain Sells 1 Million Units Worldwide in 5 Weeks
Quantic Dream\'s latest interactive drama has sold more in 5 weeks on a single platform than their last game did in 5 years on 4 platforms.
This is the third game on the PS3 to break the 1 million sales milestone in the month of March, right after Final Fantasy XIII\'s western launch, and the release of God of War III. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 brings that up to four million sellers in a traditionally slow month, giving the PS3 a nice grand slam right at the end of Sony\'s fiscal year...
It will be interesting to see what Quantic Dream decides to do next, since David Cage has stated neither Fahrenheit nor Heavy Rain will be seeing sequels. He didn\'t rule out a sequel to Omikron, which was apparently in development at one point and put on hold so they could make Heavy Rain, but after 11 years who knows if that will ever get finished. Most likely Cage will write another original story and ask us all to only play it once, since real films and real life don\'t have save points or "do-overs."

Great game so far. My wife watches this game like it\'s a movie while I play.
-
I thought it was boring. I lost interest probably half way through.
-
I found it slow to start, though it did have it\'s moments. I\'m going to give it another whirl and be a bastard with all my choices.

The only plot hole I saw was...well...nto really a plot hole. Just an unanswered question: how did Ethan end up with Origamis in his hands during his blackouts?
Everything else was pretty much explained. Madaline recognised Ethan when she was in the reception office coz the TV had his face on the news. Blake got suspicious of Agent Jayden and followed him to the warehouse and that\'s how they ended up at the final scene.
-
They never explained that? I assumed that was to make you think he was the killer when he wasn\'t really. I dunno. I guess that\'s part of not finishing it.

HA! Yeah, I kinda knew it was to make people suspect Ethan was the killer. That\'s obvious enought. Just wanted to know -how- he ended up there with an origami in his hand.

David Cage on Heavy Rain BAFTA Award Wins, Quantic Dream’s Next Project + Posted by James Gallagher // Blog Manager, SCEE
Which of tonight’s awards is the most pleasing?
I’m proud of all of them but, from a personal point of view, it has to be best story. I worked so hard on this aspect of the game, inventing rules for the world; trying to be creative and emotional while all the time thinking about the technical aspects like structure and the different variables that were necessary to make it all work. I spent a year writing for 12 to 15 hours a day and there have been many personal sacrifices. As I said on-stage, I want to dedicate this all to my family, especially my two sons, who I didn’t see much of during that time but they shared my passion.

I enjoyed a lot HR Move edition; I\'ll play again as I finish with KZ3 SP.
Can\'t wait for their next project !
