Looks like all is right with the world again, according to the latest numbers from Media Create. This week on Sony\'s home turf, the PS3 moved 39,587 units -- outselling the combined figures of the Wii and Xbox 360. Also worth noting is that PS3 sales jumped a whopping 907% from last week, when the PS3 sold only 3,931 units.
As we reported yesterday, Grand Theft Auto IV for the PS3 took first place on the Japanese charts -- now we know it has sold 132,676 copies, while LittleBigPlanet and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue: Spec III sold 51,705 and 34,965 copies, respectively. You\'ll notice that Media Create has released slightly different numbers -- for example, the 360 version of GTA IV is in eighth place now instead of fourth place. Hardware sales are below, software sales are after the jump:

I\'m surprised GTA has such an audience in Japan. Pretty telling with the anticipated games list, though.
Meanwhile, Nintendo has nothing on the chart, really. It\'ll be sad to see them squander such a huge lead by not producing quality titles. Wii needs good third party support, which isn\'t usually the case for a Nintendo console.
And the 360 is awesome. Japan really missed out on that one. What do you think the main reason was? Games or that Microsoft is American?

XBox360 is without a doubt a very good console, a lot of games, great jRPGs appealing to the Jap market till now and a very competitive price; but MS sold only 0.78M units there, in 3 years; reason ? Microsoft is american. Fact is, big jap titles for XBox haven\'t the impact they should have; MS did their best to compete in Japan, and they had a lot of "free space" to move, with PS3 so expensive with lack of games appealing to jap market; now the situation is changing, more japanes games are coming to PS3(dicember will see WKC by Level5) and most of the Most Wanted Console Games in Japan all along 2009 are coming to PS3; the price will be more competitive and MS will be in huge trouble. Again, XBox360 does not deserve it.

I still can\'t believe why Wii sell so much with so little to offer. It\'s high priced for low value hardware. Software is lacking even more then PS3. Every single damn person I know (including me) that has a Wii usually play for 2 weeks then let it dust untill something new come out.
p.s.: keep it up Biz. I wish the discussion would be something else the free-bashing on you.

Actually, I wish I could come here and find reliable information and discuss with other people which doesn\'t happen on news site such as n4g.com or 1up.com etc..
There have been quite a few interesting thread lately with useful information (such as the LBP, TGS thread) if people stop bashing each other and start to actually discuss their opinion, this board will become interesting once again.

I\'m trying hard to get my hand on Rock-Band 2 !! the thing is not been sold in my province because the box art insn\'t bilingual, this is crazy :(
I\'ll be getting from a store in Ottawa next week (90 mins driving). Untill then, it\'s Resistance 2 and WipeOutHD (with custom playlist, Slipknot. this is craaaaaaazy!)

It seems this may becoming trend, as UbiSoft is reporting a similar story. So far for the fiscal year of 2008, 21% of the publisher\'s sales have come from the PS3. Of the three home consoles, that is the largest percent, with Microsoft\'s XBox 360 trailing at 20% and the Wii at 15%. This is quite a mix up from the 2007 fiscal year, where the 360 actually had the highest amount of sales out of all platforms at 25%.
UbiSoft is expecting to meet their financial goals for the fiscal year of 2008, with Tom Clancy\'s HAWX releasing for the PS3, 360, and PC in the final quarter of the fiscal year.

2 weeks ago 360 managed to outsell both PS3 and Wii in Japan thanks to Star Ocean4. Previous week will probably see PS3 outselling both 360 and Wii thanks to yakuza3, and this week it shoud be the same, PS3 outselling both thanks to RE5. Actual figures will come soon.

Interesting to see PS3 outselling 360 wordwide with a so expensive console in a so bad economy.
PS3 selling a lot more than Wii in Japan, expect the same in Japan for this week. Maybe Wii will be outsold by 360 too this week in Japan.

Yep, I truly believe that 2009 line-up(KillZone2, RE5(multi),FFXIII in japan, Infamous, Heavy Rain, R&C2, Uncharted2, GT5, God of War3(2010?), MAG, etc, together with the price cut, will boost a lot PS3. Things will getter better and better.

Yep, it\'s crazy considering 360 is a great console and has RPGs. Previous week 2,128 360 was sold in Japan, and after december it sold weekly between 2,000 and 4,000.
In the hottest week in december, in the middle of december, it sold this compared to PS3 and Wii :
PS3: 243,453 Wii: 200,757 360: 7,976

I remember an interviaw of the Sony\'s french spokesman and he said the PS3 will be there untill 2014, 2015. So, PS4 in 2015 ? It could be.

Well, it\'s like the market is split in two. PS3 owns 360 in all EMEAA and Japan, while 360 owns PS3 in Americas.
Worldwide, 360 is ahead by 3.7M, but considering 360 was released one full year before in Americas and Japan and 16 months before in Europe, the difference is ridiculous. PS3 sold more as weekly average worldwide selling rate since both launched ;)
Anyway, I think PS3 will pass 360.

Damn. Seeing the sales numbers from when the PSN was down is crazy. There is a sizable gap between 360 and PS3 and the newest ones it doesn\'t seem like its closing.

Might be a silly question as I know that Japan mattered very much back when I joined this forum and almost everyone hated xbox even though they had one, but now I wonder if Japan really matters like they used to.
I remember several if not almost all the members here saying Xbox was destined to failure much like dreamcast and that between being the flavor of the month so to speak, their missteps in design that led to problems with overheating in xbox 1 and red ring of death in 360, and Japans general distaste for the xbox and it\'s mostly 1st persons shooters, that Xbox would fail, Playstation would once again reighn supreme and that Nintendo would take it\'s rightful place at the right hand side of PS\'s throne. It seems to me now that this is not the case and that Xbox appears here to stay at least for a while, so I wonder, dot the sales in Japan really matter that much any more? They don\'t seem like they are a system breaker like they were at one time.
