Got a scare this morning, especially considering I just bought Gears 2 and haven\'t even tried it yet.
But I hit the power button on my 360 to watch some more of the DVD I had in and I was treated to three blinking red lights around the power button.
Thinking "shit my luck ran out." I turned off the power. Then I tried pressing eject to see if that would work since that\'s one of the ways I usually turn the thing on. It did work and I\'m in the middle of watching the dvd right now.
What the hell happened?
I\'m all nervous now thinking it might not boot up any more. Guess we\'ll see.
-
iv had that happen to me randomly too. i dont know what it is. i usually turn mine on with the controller and never had a problem, but the one time i turned it on by pressing the eject button i got a 3-red ring and have never done that since..so who knows
-
This is why nobody buys american...their products suck...go pick up that ps3!!!....;)...is this thing with the 360 really as common as i hear? I don\'t plan on getting a 360 anytime soon, but i may get one for my son,...but i always hear stories of the 360 "RRod" problem.
I mentioned some months back that my son\'s friend purchased a 360 back maybe around early spring/summer and within a month his 360 got the "rrod" error....why is it so hard for ms to fix this?
-
RROD is fairly common from what I understand, but not on the newer systems.
It should not be hard to fix a shitty solder on the board.
-
i thought ms fixed this like 2 years ago or so with newer model, but i still hear about this RROD...interesting.
If LIC son\'s friend bought a 360 around last summer - which is over 2 1/2 years since the launch of 360, but the later model still suffers from RROD, then that\'s really odd of Microsoft for not fixing it.
Lately, I still hear the 360 scratching disc if you rotate it from horizontally to vertically or vice versa, and microsoft didn\'t bother fixing that area because they claimed it\'s not the design\'s fault and any machine like cd or dvd player could scratch the disc too if you move it while the disc is spinning in the player. Honestly, I think this is mostly the design of the 360 that causes the problem because of the hourglass shape console. The center of the console is concave, and that thin space really makes it more vulnerable to disc scratching when flipping the console over. But it\'s unlikely a person would move a console while playing a game unless it has problem reading disc.
But beside that, I am pretty sure the RROD has been fixed for models made after late 2006 and early 2007 or later....I think.

Quoted for time.
-
you quoted me because i wrote too long? oh well...lol. i am still trying on making shorter reply.:D
-
FYI, my system is a launch system.
-
My system has been sitting in storage for three months while I was living in LA. I\'m rather afraid of unboxing it.
-
id get one of those air cans and blow any dust out of the vents

Huh?
My son?
Friend?
What?
I have zero clue on what exactly was just fucking said.
-
lol. its my broken english i suppose. nevermind it then.:D
-
The RROD is still happening on newer systems (Jaspers), but it\'s not as common as it used to be. I\'ve had my Elite for 5 months now...I get nervous every time I turn it on thinking my luck is about to run out.
-
I have a newer system. Got the RROD in the same way a few weeks back. Had it, unplugged the thing, turned it back on, and all was fine. No problems since. My console is only a little over a year old though. So, who knows.
-
oh. I guess Microsoft still skimmed on fixing RROD problem.
-
When did I get a son????????????????
-
An update, my system is showing the blinking red lights like 33% of the time I turn it on, but it always boots up when I try a second time.
Viper, was that a suggestion for me? I\'d be afraid to mess anything up by shooting air in there. It\'s been in low-dust area for years, but who knows what\'s accumulated over time.
-
na, that was for phil that said his has been in storage
not sure what would fix your problem, because 33% definitly sounds like its messing up. and its more likely to get worse before it gets better randomly. maybe google around for some symptoms, for lack of a better term..i did the same when mine was crapping out and found out that the video card er something was dieing (my screen was turning blue before it totally died)
-
Well, it crapped out today. Microsoft has extended the warranty for all systems when its the RROD, so I\'m still covered. They paid for the UPS shipping and I\'m sending it out tomororow.
All in all they handled it as best you could ask for.
I ended up doing the request online. I had a guy on the phone, but my system turned on so I thought it was ok. Then he said he would generate a reference number for if I had to call back. This took forever. He asked me if I had played Fable. I thought maybe Fable had a glitch in it that caused the problem? So I told him yes, and he goes "yeah, good game."
Then he asks me what kind of music I like.
I thought that was a little ridiculous, but when he said he was making small talk while he waited for the number, I told him forget it. Later when I used the online repair request thing, that worked just fine without having to go on a date with Jason the repair rep.
Now to see how long before I continue my Gears co-op campaign!
-
LOL. That\'s a funny story.
-
Got my new system in the mail. It works fine, but my Xbox Live games are now trial versions and since I don\'t have my own internet hookup, I can\'t get them back, although Microsoft tried to help by including 1 month free to Live without me having to ask.
All in all, Microsoft did a good job fixing everything, although the best would\'ve been if it hadn\'t broken in the first place. Wouldn\'t have lost the downloaded games I paid for, and wouldn\'t have had to use a crappier DVD player for the last couple weeks.
-
just unplug your computer and put the ethernet cable into the 360 for a minute. you paid for the downloaded stuff, theyre yours
unless you\'re wireless then you\'re SOL for now
-
Huh?

.....
When did I get a son????????????????
I just read this again and I realized I mistyped "Clips". I wrote LIC\'s son instead of Clips\' son and that\'s what causes the confusing. No wonder you asked me that, I was confused and thought you were making fun of me. Now I understand what you mean when you asked that question. Sorry for the confusion.
-
Yeah... clips and Living-In-Clip... not the same person. :thumb:
-
Well, today I stayed home from work due to snow and decided to play Viva Pinata. It\'s addicting which is too bad, because I started playing at like 8 a.m. and at 2 oclock I got the Red Ring of Death again.
And I thought I wasn\'t in danger any more... Now I have to wait 4 days for a new shipping box/label and another two weeks for a repair and hope that they will send my game back with the new system since it\'s stuck in there...
This sucks.
Girlfriend and I were both hooked on Viva Pinata and had just started our own gardens... At least I just got Zack and Wiki for Wii, so we can give that a go in the meantime.
This sucks, I love the 360 so it\'s tough to see it go for weeks at a time like this...
-
Viva PeƱata is the truth. Shit is fun.
I\'ve had 3 go bad on me, I\'m on my 4th xbox. I plug it straight into the wall now per their suggestion, which to me was absurd, but it hasn\'t gone bad since (knock on wood..)
Good luck getting yours back in time. Hopefully you\'ll get it back in around two weeks with a free game.
-
Were all 4 replaced by MS?

If I were you, I would find a way to extract that game disk from the console before you send it to Microsoft. Since they\'re going to swap your console anyway, I would not trust them to transfer the disk to the replacement unit.
Isn\'t there a manual release for the drive tray? One of those typical holes you poke with a paper clip to release the tray?
-
Right now it\'s mounted in my entertainment rack, but once I get it out of there to send it, I\'ll take a look to try and get the disc out.
Might give this a try:

- Depending on the type of disc drive that you have in your Xbox 360 console, you can use one of the following methods:
- Method A: Insert a straightened paper clip or another small, stiff wire into the first hole from the left side of the disc tray. To release the disc tray, push the paper clip into the hole to press the manual eject mechanism. The manual eject mechanism is a white lever that is visible behind the console casing. The hole is located about 1.5 inches (approximately 4 centimeters) from the left edge of the disc tray.
- Method B: Insert a straightened paper clip or another small, stiff wire into the second hole from the left side of the disc tray. Push the paper clip repeatedly into the hole to turn a gear to release the disc tray. The hole is located about 1.5 inches (approximately 4 centimeters) from the left edge of the disc tray.
- Method C: Insert a straightened paper clip or another small, stiff wire into the hole that is directly under the "X3" in the Xbox 360 label on the disc tray to release the disc tray. The hole is located about 1 inch from the right edge of the disc tray.
[LIST=1]
- Note In each case, make sure that you line up the paper clip or stiff wire to pass through another notch behind the hole on the console casing.

- After you release the disc tray, the tray will pop out slightly. You can pull the tray out the rest of the way to remove the disc. Note If you use method A or Method C in step 4, you may have to firmly press the disc eject mechanism to eject the disc tray.
Also, would you believe our back-up game, Zack and Wiki... it was used from Gamestop and the Wii wouldn\'t read it! I\'m going to hopefully swap it at the Gamestop near work tonight. The one where I got it didn\'t have another copy.
We ended up playing Rampage Puzzle Attack on the Gamecube\'s Game Boy Player last night. Surprisingly fun.
-
That s**t has got to be aggravating....the only time i remember actually havin\' to buy another system, was the first psx...i had to buy a 2nd one after turning it sideways to get it to play games didn\'t work anymore...:p...but i guess as getting it fixed for free relieves some of that pain, but still MS should\'ve fixed this by now.
-
Yeah. Oddly, the system booted up this morning so I ejected the disc. Last time it came back to life a couple times, so I\'ll probably still need to get it repaired. It is frustrating.
I eventually had to get a new PS2, replaced it with a slim PStwo. I forget what the problem was with it, I think it stopped displaying video or something after a while.
Other than that I\'ve never had a problem before the 360, unless you count blowing into the NES which is basically a product feature at this point, heh.

In other news (I honestly don\'t think this deserves it\'s own thread)
Student sues US Airways for stealing his Xbox from his checked luggage.

I don\'t know why he\'s asking $1,700 for the console, or $25K or $1M or whatever it is... I was wondering if he thinks the achievements he\'s stored on his hard drive are worth something? :)
