hey yall, at my grandmothers place trying to get her PC to work. I\'m trying to activate the headphones but am having no luck.
shes on vista and when I click on device manager under sound there is
High Definition Audio Device
and thats it, I can\'t do anything to it and I get no sound coming from the headphones, the headphones don\'t even seem to be recognized by the computer
also when I check off "Show Disabled Devices" or "Show Disconnected Devices"
nothing pops up, there just the High Definition Audio Device thing which has a picture of a monitor as its icon. I checked the monitor, theres no jack for headphones or speakers of any kind.
anyways i\'m kinda lost so i\'m turning to you guys for your vast knowledge!

i had serious problems with my mic/headphones when i switched to vista. come to think of it it mightve just been the mic
is the plugin for the headset usb or normal plugs?
i had one that was with a usb and i couldnt get it to work for the life of me. found a spare pair with green and black plugs, plugged them into the sound card and its working fine

You\'re probably missing a driver for it. Check what the card is or if its integrated with the Mobo and then find the appropriate driver(unless of course you already have the disk, then just plop that in).
I recently had to reinstall Vista on a friends computer and had to go through the exact same thing.

I checked for driver updates and updated accordingly, i\'ve now tried 2 headphones and 1 set of speakers and i\'m getting the same thing.
when I go into device manager or run dxdiag i see that the sound card is just called "Digital Output Device", but when I plug in the speakers, under device manager now appears "USB Audio Device". However I cannot get "USB Audio Device" to appear under Playback Devices. It is enabled and it is up to date aswell.
