Title: How bout dem O\'s?
Post by: Eiksirf on April 07, 2009, 09:22:00 AM
Wish I went to the opening day game. They sold out Camden Yards which is unheard of lately and stomped the Yanks in what turned out to be a close one through I think the 8th before the Orioles pulled ahead.

People around here are kind of smirking today and saying "The O\'s are in first!" Orioles usually win on day one, and always against New York, oddly enough. And then comes the crashing defeat. :)

My girlfriend\'s brother is a Braves fan, so he\'s coming down this summer and we\'re going to see that game later this summer...

i dont get why people make a big deal out of opening day games.

there\'s nothing less important than the first game of 162 games

Because they miss baseball, and they\'re glad it\'s in season again?  Baseball has the most hyped, covered, and active off season, so baseball fans often are ready for the season long before it starts up again.

Funniest thing is the first game is just as important as game 162.

I disagree with you there. I think football does, just look at what a huge deal the draft is. I couldn\'t even name one person drafted last year in baseball and i\'m a baseball fan

I love baseball and im glad its back. I dont actually sit and watch every pitch of every cubs game, but if the cubs are playing the game will be on at least one tv in my apartment. Its good background for whatever else im doing.

true..but the game\'s all about streaks and getting hot at the right time to win multiple games in a row. definitly helps for a head start if you do well early, but that hasnt worked for the mets the last few years

Football has the draft, yes, but that\'s only one weekend.  Baseball has many more trades and important free agent signings.  Big name players in football, for the most part, don\'t move around as much as the big players in baseball.

Also, for what it\'s worth, baseball\'s draft doesn\'t happen during its offseason.

Football by far has the most hyped and active (most talked about) offseason out of all the pro sports.  It\'s not even close.

Big name players in the past 5 years or so have moved around a TON... huge trades have gone down just in the past few weeks.  Ever notice how the NFL tab on sports websites (espn, cbssports to name 2) is displayed before all the other pro sports?  There is a reason for this....

The reason for it is that football is the biggest sport in the nation.  Baseball still has the most active offseason.  Football\'s spikes up occasionally.  Baseball\'s is a lot more constant, and still has A LOT more major player movement.  Many more trades, many more big name free agents moving.  Always has been that way.

You\'re right it\'s not even close.  But you have it the wrong way.

I could never watch baseball.....even when i did try, i\'d fall asleep on it....then i only used to watch the world series..now i can\'t be bothered with it. I used to watch basketball too, but i\'m old-school..as soon as jordan, ewing, starks, barkely, magic, bird, reggie miller and a host of other characters from that era retired, i stopped watching b-ball as well.

I used to love the rivalry between the knicks/pacers or knicks/bulls...:D...as much as i loved the knicks and nets back then, reggie miller would ALWAYS find a way to burn the knicks with a three pointer with 1 second left!!!...jordan did it too, but i think reggie miller did it with more success.

Football is the only sport i watch now.

I know there\'s mlb.tv, but i think you have to pay for it.

CBS Sportsline streams their college football games online for free. Also some of the NFL games, I think MNF, is broadcasting their cameras live so you can see all of them at once.

I think baseball is making you pay.

MLB.tv charges I think $80 per season.

There\'s also a premium package for an extra $20 that gets you high def, up to 4 games per screen, and DVR functionality.

Just remember local games are blacked out.
