Story (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/apr/28/baracks-in-the-basement/)
President Obama\'s media cheerleaders are hailing how loved he is. But at the 100-day mark of his presidency, Mr. Obama is the second-least-popular president in 40 years.
According to Gallup\'s April survey, Americans have a lower approval of Mr. Obama at this point than all but one president since Gallup began tracking this in 1969...
...The explanation for Mr. Obama\'s low approval is that he ran as a moderate but has governed from the far left. The fawning and self-deceiving press won\'t go there. On Sunday\'s "Meet the Press," host David Gregory asked a panel about critics who "would say one of the things that he\'s done in 100 days already is expand the role of government, the size of government." Historian Doris Kearns Goodwin claimed, "That\'s what he ran for the presidency in the first place for."
Perplexed about complaints over Mr. Obama\'s expansion of government, Newsweek editor Jon Meacham asked: "does no one listen during campaigns?"
It was these pundits who weren\'t paying attention during last year\'s campaign. In all three presidential debates, Mr. Obama promised to cut government spending and reduce the size of the deficit. He blamed the economic crisis on excessive deficits. At no time did candidate Barack Obama say that more deficit-spending was the solution.
My my, how the mighty have fallen... but you\'ll never hear about it. Now I\'ll wait for you to somehow refute theses numbers, and come up with reasons why this is untrue or unfair.

It\'s interesting how you typed "Times" but didn\'t mention that this is from the Washington Times that rightwing mouthpiece, and it\'s an editorial.
The actual Gallup press release states:
http://www.gallup.com/poll/117853/First-100-Days-Obama-Meets-Exceeds-Expectations.aspx (http://www.gallup.com/poll/117853/First-100-Days-Obama-Meets-Exceeds-Expectations.aspx)
President Obama begins the second 100 days of his presidency with 56% of Americans believing he has done an excellent or good job thus far, and only 20% saying he has done a poor or terrible job. According to the new USA Today/Gallup poll, conducted April 20-21, about a quarter of Americans are on the fence, saying his performance has been "just okay."...
These summary evaluations of Obama\'s presidency provide a more detailed picture of public reaction to the new president than Gallup\'s standard job approval rating. Gallup Poll Daily tracking from April 20-22 finds 65% of Americans saying they "approve" of the job Obama is doing as president; 29% disapprove. Thus, on both measures, Americans\' general assessment is quite positive, by a better than 2-to-1 margin.
And rightwing nutcases are trying to spin this to make it sound like Obama has "low approval."
Give me a fucking break and try thinking for yourself instead of quoting crazy editorials.
-
Haha...owned........His approval ratings did drop since january, but that\'s normal for any president,...especially when the said prez starts to enact his policies...not everybody will like what he\'s doing..even those that voted for him...he\'s still in a better place than most, but the real test will to see where he\'s at in about two years.
-
I didn\'t write the article, but I find it funny that different news outlets report different numbers/perspectives on the numbers. Shows how you can\'t trust the media in general.
-
And for the record, every newspaper/tv station/etc will have a political leaning, find me an unbiased media outlet and I\'ll buy you a cookie.
Anything that\'s anti-obama is automatically conservative bias, anything that\'s pro-obama is liberal bias, that\'s just the perception people have. Unfortunately, perception will always win out over reality... that\'s why you never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
-
Well we know one thing for sure.
Kennedy=biased.
-
You forgot to add ignorant.
-
Oh and you guys aren\'t? This is the pot calling the kettle black. Bias and ignorance works both ways. You guys did the SAME exact thing when Bush was in office. Would you like me to start pulling up threads?
I\'m no Bush fan (don\'t really consider him a conservative), but its clear you guys can dish it out, but you can\'t take it.
-
Bush is/was a lying sneak.
Once Obama turns into that, different story.
So to answer your question, Im neither biased or ignorant. Thanks for trying though!
Also this had nothing to do with Bush...he is old news. Why did you drag his name into this?
-
Bush is/was a lying sneak.
That in itself is a biased opinion, not a generally accepted fact.
Do you honestly think Obama is a squeakly clean politician? Do I honestly need to mention the name Bill Ayers?

It is a fact that Bush and that admin lied. They lied to get us into a war and then changed the story repeatedly.
They snuck around the typical ways to get phone taps.
Why do you feel the need to compare Obama to Bush? When it is proven that Obama did something wrong...different story.
Again, why did you even mention Bush in this thread in the first place?

I don\'t know where you get these fabrications that Obama is a saint that would never lie to us.

Jesus Christ, you might be worse than giga.
I can only laugh at what you post.

So which of those facts do you dispute?

This forum was idle for months at a time under the Bush administration. I don\'t know where you\'re getting this assumtion that "we did the same to Bush."
Do you mean post untrue bullshit and crazy editorials? Unfortunately the few times anyone bothered to post a negative comment about Bush, it was usually later proven to be true.
Unlinked crazy editorials have always been Giga\'s specialty, not the local liberals.
-
Believe what you want. But know this, its easy to pick on someone when you\'re outnumbered. This board has become increasingly liberal and without me it would be a liberal droolfest over Obama and then ultimately it would die.
I may be a come off as a no-good right winger, but that doesn\'t mean I\'m always wrong.

No, Current Events and Polital Debate would. Primarily because there would be no Political debate.

Do you honestly think Obama is a squeakly clean politician? Do I honestly need to mention the name Bill Ayers?
That is such a weak argument...the guy blows something up when obama was a kid, then years later both of them hook up for a good cause to improve the quality of the educational system in chicago.....but the only thing Mccain and Palin kept sayin\' at the time was that he hangs out with terrorists. The guy may have been a jerk in his earlier years, but that had nothing to do with obama.
He later joined Obama for a good cause for the educational system in chicago...whether or not that venture worked is not the issue,..it\'s the overall thought. Obama has always worked at "street" and "social worker" type levels to get things done in the community
Well, we\'re glad to see Obama\'s shifting the blame from the consumer to the automakers. That must explain why the Illinois Senator and Presidential candidate owns a HEMI-powered V8 Chrysler 300C.
Obviously it\'s Chrysler\'s fault Obama bought a big 5.7-liter engine from them -- he just didn\'t have a choice.
^^^I just pulled this from one of those idiotic links you provided....did you know that the ceo of ford, or at least that guy that represented ford when they were asking for bailout funds earlier this year in front of congress?, he actually owns a lexus.

FACT CHECK: Obama disowns deficit he helped shape
Apr 29, 5:55 PM (ET)
By CALVIN WOODWARD
(AP) President Barack Obama speaks during a town hall meeting Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at Fox Senior...
Full Image
WASHINGTON (AP) - "That wasn\'t me," President Barack Obama said on his 100th day in office, disclaiming responsibility for the huge budget deficit waiting for him on Day One.
It actually was him - and the other Democrats controlling Congress the previous two years - who shaped a budget so out of balance.
And as a presidential candidate and president-elect, he backed the twilight Bush-era stimulus plan that made the deficit deeper, all before he took over and promoted spending plans that have made it much deeper still.
Obama met citizens at an Arnold, Mo., high school Wednesday in advance of his prime-time news conference. Both forums were a platform to review his progress at the 100-day mark and look ahead.
At various times, he brought an air of certainty to ambitions that are far from cast in stone.
His assertion that his proposed budget "will cut the deficit in half by the end of my first term" is an eyeball-roller among many economists, given the uncharted terrain of trillion-dollar deficits and economic calamity that the government is negotiating.
He promised vast savings from increased spending on preventive health care in the face of doubts that such an effort, however laudable it might be for public welfare, can pay for itself, let alone yield huge savings.
A look at some of his claims Wednesday:
OBAMA: "Number one, we inherited a $1.3 trillion deficit.... That wasn\'t me. Number two, there is almost uniform consensus among economists that in the middle of the biggest crisis, financial crisis, since the Great Depression, we had to take extraordinary steps. So you\'ve got a lot of Republican economists who agree that we had to do a stimulus package and we had to do something about the banks. Those are one-time charges, and they\'re big, and they\'ll make our deficits go up over the next two years." - in Missouri.
THE FACTS:
Congress controls the purse strings, not the president, and it was under Democratic control for Obama\'s last two years as Illinois senator. Obama supported the emergency bailout package in President George W. Bush\'s final months - a package Democratic leaders wanted to make bigger.
To be sure, Obama opposed the Iraq war, a drain on federal coffers for six years before he became president. But with one major exception, he voted in support of Iraq war spending.
The economy has worsened under Obama, though from forces surely in play before he became president, and he can credibly claim to have inherited a grim situation.
Still, his response to the crisis goes well beyond "one-time charges."
He\'s persuaded Congress to expand children\'s health insurance, education spending, health information technology and more. He\'s moving ahead on a variety of big-ticket items on health care, the environment, energy and transportation that, if achieved, will be more enduring than bank bailouts and aid for homeowners.
The nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimated his policy proposals would add a net $428 billion to the deficit over four years, even accounting for his spending reduction goals. Now, the deficit is nearly quadrupling to $1.75 trillion.
Obama is going to kill this country and has already gotten off to a great start.
clips - Ford didn\'t take the bailout money. None of the automakers should have. Ayers is not a good guy and never will be clips. The Chicago education system is still horrible. Obama is out of his league with his numerous gaffe\'s and screw ups when it comes to foreign policy. He embarrasses the US on a consistant basis on the world stage - even the President of France thinks he is a light weight and lacks substance. Guess he can\'t bring his teleprompter to closed door meetings eh?
Kennedy - I warned you what the kool-aid drinkers like Coredweller in this forum where like, now you see.
CORE - is that link good enough for you???? AP? Woodward??? I am sure you have read it yourself, but were too dazzled by Obama\'s swagger, the Portuguese Water dog and Michelle\'s fat ass to let it fully process.
-
Finally, someone else who can see past the mirage of Obama\'s presidency. Finally some balance will be restored to the forums.
-
Mirage? He\'s done quite a bit in the last few months, that\'s no mirage.
His marketed persona... Maybe you mean that. That\'s a cool thing that he uses to try to persuade people into feeling confident and to go about helping fix things in their own/our lives. It\'s a way to be a good leader. I know it\'s odd, but that\'s probably because we\'re not used to having a good leader.
-
To be sure, Obama opposed the Iraq war, a drain on federal coffers for six years before he became president. But with one major exception, he voted in support of Iraq war spending.
That was a tough vote...even tho he wanted to end the war, at the same time he didn\'t want to leave the troops stranded with no funding for armor, bullet proof vests, military weapons, ammo...etc...so that comment is a bit misleading.
He\'s persuaded Congress to expand children\'s health insurance, education spending, health information technology and more. He\'s moving ahead on a variety of big-ticket items on health care, the environment, energy and transportation that, if achieved, will be more enduring than bank bailouts and aid for homeowners.
And there\'s something wrong with expanding childrens health insurance? There\'s something wrong with trying to bolster our educational system?....but in the bush era during the still ongoing iraq war, you\'d better give him money for the war with no questions asked? Every presidential candidate has always stated that it\'s time for america to take the lead in creating new energy technologies, and to create new jobs in that sector...it\'s good to see he\'s actually doing something about it.
If he\'s going to raise the debt a bit by investing in america through these new technologies, i don\'t see a problem with that. You have college kids that take on an absurd amount of debt to get the education they need...they spend thousands investing in themselves...the same applies here.

Guess he can\'t bring his teleprompter to closed door meetings eh?
I know that ford didn\'t take the bailout money,..that wasn\'t the point....i was pointing how idiotic that statement was that i pulled from a link that kennedy posted....whatever criticism Obama has made of chrysler, at least he did own one. That ceo of ford who came before congress during those meetings actually owns a lexus....way to show your support for your own product. And just because Obama listens to our allies instead of dictating to them, isn\'t a sign of weakness...he stated that he wanted to things differently on the world stage and that is what he\'s been doing.
-
LOL@ teleprompter comment.
Yeah - because we all know CEO\'s and other Presidents never use one of those.
-
That was a tough vote...even tho he wanted to end the war, at the same time he didn\'t want to leave the troops stranded with no funding for armor, bullet proof vests, military weapons, ammo...etc...so that comment is a bit misleading.
He voted for the first stimulis package - remember the one Bush did before he left office? The one the Dems wanted to be larger? So by saying "It wasn\'t me who created this debt" is a flat out lie.
And there\'s something wrong with expanding childrens health insurance? There\'s something wrong with trying to bolster our educational system?....but in the bush era during the still ongoing iraq war, you\'d better give him money for the war with no questions asked? So throwing money at something that is broken is the way to fix it? Wrong. We have been dumping money into schools for decades and it does not work.
As for this "new energy" crap that is being spewed by the media (cough GE - parent company of NBC) is all about money. Cap and trade is a bullshit tax that would make our electric bills - everyone\'s electric bill go through the roof by artificially inflating the cost. Obama is rewarding GE/NBC for supporting him throughout the primaries and the general election by trying to get this bill passed so they can make more money.
This is the same kind of nonsense T. Boone Pickens was pedeling last year with his stupid commercials. He invested heavily in solar, natural gas and wind and wanted everyone to jump on his bandwagon. The same applies for the unholy alliance of Obama and GE.
I know that ford didn\'t take the bailout money,..that wasn\'t the point....i was pointing how idiotic that statement was that i pulled from a link that kennedy posted....whatever criticism Obama has made of chrysler, at least he did own one. Who cares what a CEO drives? I don\'t. When did Venezuala become our ally clips? How about Iran? The guy is way out of his league on the world stage. Just ask Gordon Brown how those DVD\'s are working out that Obama gave him considering he can\'t even play them due to regional formatting, not to mention Brown is half blind. Obama is a disgrace.
-
LOL@ teleprompter comment.
Yeah - because we all know CEO\'s and other Presidents never use one of those.
True, but when you take away his teleprompter he is an complete disaster. Most other Presidents could actually speak publicly in front of the nation sans a teleprompter and not look like a complete fool, I\'m still waiting for that moment from Obama.
-
He can\'t speak without his teleprompter... it is proven. He sounds like Stuttering John (old Stern lacky).

He isn\'t a bad speaker without the teleprompter. I thought he did a decent job without it. Sometimes I feel like he is doing too much with press conferences. I think it would be better if he reduce the amount of press conferences so he has more time to handle other issues or has more time to relax every once in a while.
When it comes to politics and Economics talk, I think he did an okay at it without the teleprompter. Its would be hard to remember all those specific details about economy, political, and technology when giving speeches without paper in hand or a teleprompter. But when it comes to normal conversation, he talks normally just like every normal person could.
I think our previous president actually did worst with public speeches than Obama did. Have you seen how often Bush messed up his speeches even when he has paper in hand ready? I think Bush struggle more with giving speeches than Obama did. Bush seems uncomfortable, and nervous around people and because of those problems he has, it makes him really awkward socializing and interacting with other people even by just having normal conversation. Because of his awkwardness around people, it might make some people took it the wrong way and might turn people off.
Sometimes I wonder that\'s quite strange indeed since Bush was born from a wealthy family, and I think he probably raised up well by both parents, and it\'s strange that he has speech problems and being awkward around people. Its not like he was raised from a poor family with single parent that neglect him or if he was isolated most of his childhood life or something. But who knows what his childhood life was like growing up.
I wouldn\'t be surprised if Bush\'s father is a better speaker and better at interacting with other than Bush is. Simply because his father doesn\'t have the anxiety or nervousness or uncomfortable around people that Bush has.
I think another thing about Bush is he lack the charismatic appearance or speech for that matter that Obama has. I think that part of the reason that Obama gain a lot of respects and impressions from other wherever he go to. Like go to this country talking to this leader or that country\'s leader whether its political or normal conversation.
-
Bush was not a great at giving speeches either, but he did make an effort to avoid the use of a teleprompter. Needless to say, Obama is a much better public speaker than Bush, but he\'s still terrible sans a teleprompter.
No man could deliver a speech quite like Reagan, and we really haven\'t had a great president since then.
-

And it was very obvious when he did not use the prompter.
I agree Reagan had great delivery, but that had to do with his acting skills.

Great speech indeed, but he\'s also reading it off the paper. I think Obama did very well too whether reading it off the paper or the teleprompter.

Great speech indeed, but he\'s also reading it off the paper. I think Obama did very well too whether reading it off the paper or the teleprompter.
Reading from a teleprompter and glancing at notes on a piece of paper is just a tad different.
-
...No man could deliver a speech quite like Reagan, and we really haven\'t had a great president since then...
How about Bill Clinton? I thought he\'s also one of the greatest speakers too. Obama is great with the teleprompter and very good at reading it off the paper. Maybe not great at reading it off the paper, but more than good enough to me...
-
true, he had weak morals and ethics, but he did a decent job
I still wouldn\'t call him a great president though.
-
Clinton was getting blowjobs and enjoyed McDonald fries. What can be more American? He fuckin\' rocked. I would of reelected him until he died and then cloned him for a 100 more terms!
P.S - RON PAUL 2012!
(lmao!)
-
P.S - RON PAUL 2012!
I hear that!
-
Reading from a teleprompter and glancing at notes on a piece of paper is just a tad different.
Who are you to say they are using notes and not a full speech?
In that aspect, no difference.
As far as notes are concerned, little difference.
How old are you anyway?
-
You just having to read a bunch of words off a screen and never having to take your eyes off it is just as hard as writing a speech, and then glancing at every once in a while?
I can tell you from personal experience that writing and delivering a speech takes a lot of effort. Even if I had it written out, I still had to practice it numerous times so that my head wasn\'t looking at a piece of paper the whole time. If I had a teleprompter, there would be no need for me to practice my speech because it would be like reading a book.
So if you honestly don\'t see a difference there, I have to ask... what planet are you from?
I am 23, but I am a huge history buff.
Why do you insist on picking fights with me on things you know are clearly not true?

So throwing money at something that is broken is the way to fix it? Wrong. We have been dumping money into schools for decades and it does not work.
Money is only a small part of it...if the classrooms are updated with the latest material needed to succeed, then it all falls back on the teachers and students themselves and parents to make the child or young adult succeed. Ultimately it comes down the individual.
As for this "new energy" crap that is being spewed by the media (cough GE - parent company of NBC) is all about money. Like i stated earlier...don\'t bitch and moan when gas prices go back up to $4.00 a gallon. I think it\'s only a plus for us to have new technologies, that\'ll lessen our dependence on foreign oil. When we were going thru those outrageous gas prices last summer....i saw that there were cars that were using natural gas to run their vehicles (and it was considerably cheaper than gas prices at the time)...maybe the tech is expensive now, but there\'s always the possibly that it\'ll cheapen with further research. That\'s just one example, but who\'s to say that these new techs might impact the industry in a way that\'ll strengthen our techological savvy in the world and lessen our dependence on some level of foreign oil?
Never has a president relied so much on one. It is almost like every morning someone has to download the talking points of the day into him.
True, but when you take away his teleprompter he is an complete disaster. Most other Presidents could actually speak publicly in front of the nation sans a teleprompter and not look like a complete fool, I\'m still waiting for that moment from Obama.
Have you seen his recent town meeting that he just gave? The guy takes questions and takes nearly 5-7 minutes to break down the question and give clear and complete answers. Obama owned McCain during the presidential debates and it showed that he needed no teleprompter to shine.
I don\'t care what he drives...but image is everthing, and pulling up to the ford company parking lot in your lexus is hypocritical on an insane level. And who stated that Venezuala was our ally? He only went down there to warm relations with the leaders down there, but he also stated that it wasn\'t a one way street...those folks have to make concessions and do some things that we would like to see before we act on anything.
-
Anyway , didn\'t you leave or something?
Didn\'t you leave as well? Your point being? BTW how is the home life?
-
Money is only a small part of it...if the classrooms are updated with the latest material needed to succeed, then it all falls back on the teachers and students themselves and parents to make the child or young adult succeed. Ultimately it comes down the individual.

Cap and Trade has nothing do with gas prices and cars. This is about electricity and the artificial raising of the price to increase companies like GE\'s profits.
Have you seen his recent town meeting that he just gave? The guy takes questions and takes nearly 5-7 minutes to break down the question and give clear and complete answers. Obama owned McCain during the presidential debates and it showed that he needed no teleprompter to shine.
The same town hall meeting where he lied and said the creation of the deficit "wasn\'t me". Bullshit. He is a blatent liar and no i don\'t think he owned McCain in the debates at all. He is a stuttering fool who gets his talking points from his teleprompter. Bush was a much better speaker when he wasn\'t reading from a scripted speech. Obama can\'t speak a clear sentence without it being typed out for him.
And who stated that Venezuala was our ally? He only went down there to warm relations with the leaders down there, but he also stated that it wasn\'t a one way street...those folks have to make concessions and do some things that we would like to see before we act on anything.
Lets see he accepted an anti American book from Chavez, he sat through a lunatic rant by Noriega for an hour about how bad the US is and didn\'t say a word. Obama is an embarassment and a disgrace. As you said its all about image isn\'t it?

Didn\'t you leave as well? Your point being? BTW how is the home life?
When did I leave? Are we talking about like over two years ago?
Home life? Trying to make a jab about my separation? If so, you are epic fail. My home life is great. I get my girls five days a week and I am dating an awesome girl.
How is your married life? Your wife sucking and fucking anyone else, due to the fact you\'re bitter and annoying?

Convenient memory... you least of all shouldn\'t throw stones in regards to that topic.
Anyway, guess it does bother you lol. I won\'t shed a tear. Too bad you couldn\'t man up and do the right thing. How much are you paying those whores anyway?

Man up and do the right thing? What in the hell are you talking about?
And whores? Once again - what the fuck are you even talking about?
Doesn\'t bother me in the least, would just like to know what in the world you\'re even talking about.

So you agree money is not the answer. Thanks for taking my side.
No. I stated that money was a small part of it. I\'m sure you would agree that a science or history book created in 2009 would have more useful and current information than a science or history book that some schools use that are from the late 80\'s - early 90\'s...that\'s were the money part comes in...you need money to upgrade the learning material.
Cap and Trade has nothing do with gas prices and cars. This is about electricity and the artificial raising of the price to increase companies like GE\'s profits.
Who said anything about cap & trade? I was talking about how these new technologies can make us a leader of innovation in the world...if you think otherwise or somehow think it\'s related to cap & trade you\'re wrong (or maybe i\'m missing something)...how can Obama wanting the u.s. to be innovators of new technology be detrimental to the u.s.?.....*newsflash* it won\'t. McCain also echoed Obama\'s new technology bolstering during his campaign as well.

Ok now yer talkin\' outta yer ass a bit....everybody had a hand in creating this mess, and the whole thing headlining this scenario was greed. I think Obama articulates himself very well without the teleprompter. One thing i did like about bush was that he spoke from the gut and spoke his mind...but nobody outside of the u.s. liked his cowboy policies...Obama speaks his mind as well, but he does it in a more respectful manner...both of these guys are like night and day.

He acted professionally while he was down there. Did you really expect him to toss the book or throw a childish rant when chavez gave him the book? He\'s above all of that rhetoric and he should be. Even when those leaders were kickin\' dirt on the u.s. he was there to listen....but he did say that even tho that these countries still hold some animosity towards the states, they need to understand how much support & help that we give to others in the immediate area and around the world, and in not so many words he generally stated that they need to let go of decades old anger...any way you look at it, the ball is still in our court.

I did, in my previous post. Cap and trade has a lot to do with our energy policies and is directly tied to the topic of "green energy". See my previous post.

So you admit that Obama had a hand in creating the debt that he said "wasn\'t me". He lied. End of story. Obama is non stop uh uh uh machine without his teleprompter and his comparison of German POW\'s in England during WWII and 9/11 terrorist detainees was laughable. The Europeans may not have liked Bush\'s aggressive stance, but they respected it. More than I can say they feel about Obama\'s 2009 Apology Tour.

He should of refused the gift and during Ortega\'s rant he should have either walked out or gotten up and refuted it. If he was so eloquent and such a great speaker (without his teleprompter of course) he could have put the smack down on Ortega. He did not.

I\'m going to tread lightly here a bit....only because i\'m kinda back and forth on the issue of enemy detainees...i didn\'t see the comparison you speak of, but without even thinking about it, i say we should torture those if it\'s going to force them to release critical information. It\'s a slippery slope tho....if the u.s. are saying we don\'t torture, then we should not be doing it, if we\'re holding ourselves to a higher standard, then we should indeed practice it.
I remember very early in the iraq war when 4 or 5 american soldiers were captured...almost immediately, president bush sent word out to those that captured them, that they better be treated with dignity and respect and that there will be a heavy price to pay if they are harmed otherwise.....eventually the soldiers were released and they stated that while they were a bit freightened, they were fed regulary and generally treated well.
If we\'re tellin\' those guys to treat our soldiers with respect, then in all honesty, we should be practicing what we preach as well. Another thing too can be that maybe only conventional armies honor the no torture declaration...terrorists on the other hand probably don\'t honor anything, so maybe they\'re the exception...i think it still kinda puts our troops in harm way if they\'re captured tho.

I\'m glad we elected Obama and not you, for example. That\'s a terrible idea.
Your example of Obama\'s behavior is a perfect example of his trying to improve our relations with other countries. Your idea for a childish slap fight? Not so much.

Your first paragraph - stated that the Iraqi army had captured US soldiers. Precisely the point - The Iraqi ARMY. Uniformed soliders fighting in a war should be treated according to the Geneva Conventions.
As you stated in your second paragraph - terrorists are not entitled to the Geneva Conventions and should be waterboarded as many times as it takes to get the information. When terrorists capture our soldiers, what happens? They are beheaded, dragged through the streets, etc. I have no problem with subjecting these terrorists to a bit of hazing. Anyone who has ever pledged a fraternity has probably had worse done.

So standing up and disputing the lies being spewed by someone at a summit about the country you lead is a childish slap fight? What about getting up and walking out? Is that childish too? You are a fucking idiot. I didn\'t think it was possible, but on foreign affairs Obama is actually making Jimmy Carter look good.
Why would we want to improve relations with those who will hate us no matter what we do? Appeasing Banana Republic dictators is not going to get us anywhere.

If he get up and walk away, they might think that\'s rude and might piss them off more. He\'s a humble president that wanted to listen to other point of views. How do you know they will hate us no matter what? Did you see how happy Hugo Chavez was when he handed Obama the book? I see that a small sign of a positive and good relationship. I wouldn\'t be surprised some of the dislikes Chavez has about America might be lessen and he might have a slightly better perspective of America.

"If you\'re not rich, the police here don\'t care about taking your case," said a humiliated Ricardo, 41, who described his attacker as a neighborhood thug. Hugo Chavez
[ ] friendly democratic leader
- modern day tyrant and anti-American hate spewer
Then came Hugo Chávez, elected president of Venezuela in December 1998. The lieutenant colonel had attempted a coup six years earlier. When that failed, he won power at the ballot box and is now approaching a decade in office. In that time, he has concentrated power, harassed opponents, punished reporters, persecuted civic organizations, and increased state control of the economy. Yet, he has also found a way to make authoritarianism fashionable again, if not with the masses, with at least enough voters to win elections. And with his fiery anti-American, anti-neoliberal rhetoric, Chávez has become the poster boy for many leftists worldwide.

Hugo Chavez has in fact placed any idea of democracy in Jeopardy.

So I find it hard to believe any American would trust this guy or want any kind of association with him
-
Does this sound like a democratic leader?
Internally, Chavez has already rewritten the constitution, stacked the courts and begun throwing political opponents into jail. And some say he is now looking beyond Venezuela\'s borders. With billions of dollars in oil profits, Chavez is buying advanced Russian fighter planes and helicopters, dramatically increasing the size of his armed forces and integrating it with Cuba\'s.
"This is a country where anyone who dares to think and speak differently from the government,” said Machado, “is seen as an enemy."
Hey that second one kind of sounds like this forum.

You\'re asking me why we should improve relations with countries you claim we cannot improve our relations with. That\'s ridiculous.
We should improve relations with countries for a few reasons. The first couple of which would probably be security and profit.

You do realize Hugo Chavez has publicly stated he hates America and has been steadily building a large army which now roughly 1.5 Million strong.
This coddling makes America look weak and makes me wonder what Chavez plans to do with that large army. Your not fearful at all about this?

Fear mongering is all the same to me.

Your like the Belgians - when you see a threat, you cave!
If people like you were in charge the Venezualen army would be marching across our borders as we speak.

All the more reason to be civil with him. Why would you piss off this guy for no reason? Obama gave him a chance to get stuff off his chest to what at least appeared to be an open audience. How any one could try to twist that to seem like a bad thing for the U.S. is beyond me.
How about this: Keep your enemies closer?

People just need to relax...there were no major contracts and exchanges involved....he went down there to extend his hand and to pursue an opportunity to thaw strained relationships. He made it very clear during the campaign that he wants to change the image of america, and he\'s been doing that....he\'s also stated that he\'s not afraid to sit down with leaders of other countries that might not like us, face to face....instead of not talking to them at all and sending "representatives" to speak for him. He\'s doing things differently and the republicans think it\'s a sign of weakness.
The Europeans may not have liked Bush\'s aggressive stance, but they respected it. More than I can say they feel about Obama\'s 2009 Apology Tour.
And we alll know how that worked out?.....Bush couldn\'t really get much support for the iraq war other than Britain, and support from other countries dropped at a dramatic pace. Bush may have been the lone cowboy, but that in itself was the truth....even among our allies he was ill-liked for actions towards iraq. No matter how strong or powerful the u.s. may be, at some point you\'re going to need to work together with other countries at some point on an array of issues that both countries may have a huge interest in and that may result in both countries benefiting from that relationship.
Bush\'s reign basically squashed any true relationship economically with other up and coming countries that we normally may not have been inclined to work with. Obama\'s reaching out to other countries is not going to guarantee brighter days or better relationships with countries that we normally may not talk to, but i think it will strengthen our relationship with countries that have been our solid ally for years....and whether or not the countries that may not like us respond positively or negatively to Obama\'s outreach isn\'t the point,....at least he\'s showing that he\'s willing to end old arguments and start fresh with open and honest debates about the relationship between the said countries, and how to move forward on those issues.

Obama accomplished what on his European Apology Tour? He wanted help in Afghanistan didn\'t he? Did he get it? No. He just made us look foolish. I would rather be hated for taking tough stances than look like the complete joke that Obama is.
As far as sitting down face to face and talking... does that involve his teleprompter?
I can only hope things get bad enough where Texas and few other states can leave the shell that once was America. Before you say "seeya" remember Texas has the 2nd largest economy in the US and most of the refining capability. Obama has increased the size and power of the Federal Government beyond what is stated in the Constitution. We are also a donor state - meaning we give our gas tax to the federal government so they can give it to crap states like the ones in the north east build and maintain their roads and bridges. If you think my feelings are off track, the governor of Texas said recently Texas has the right to seceed and Oklahoma is passing a bill reaffirming their states rights. People are sick of the goverment spending money on worthless social programs that have no return.

It doesn\'t matter whether those countries that he asked to help refused to join us in afghanastan....the folks that hit us on 9/11 reside in that area....and at it only makes sense for us to go in there and clean house....yes the extra help would\'ve been appreciated, but other countries are not obligated to assist us...(if Obama was upset by this, i\'m sure he\'ll return the favor when these countries need something from us in the future)...even if we don\'t get bin laden, at the very least we have to stabilize the area so that the taliban and other rogue groups don\'t grow in size and power.

Yea and Mexico would invade your ass and take it back. lol
See the prior attempt at this, which resulted in the Civil War. I really doubt the nation has changed to such an extent as to now allow states to secede should the whim strike them. Not to mention they got beat into submission like a hard headed housewife.
You\'d have two options:
1) Steal everything that is government owned and use that to start out your new Nation. However you\'d have to deal with the repercussions of stealing from the U.S. which would most likely involve a severe military reaction.
or
2) Use strictly your own resources to start your nation without the aid of any other country in a world-wide economic depression while most likely fending off economic, political, and military attacks from multiple threats.
I don\'t see how you\'d be able to survive. Either way you\'re fucked.
By all means, secede and keep that moron governor Perry to yourselves.

I believe there are more countries helping us with troops fighting the war in Afghanistan but not in Iraq. I think the only major country that supports us on war in Iraq is Britain. I guess other countries agree fighting in Afghanistan than fighting in Iraq.

So you admit he accomplished nothing. Hell, Bush got more help in Afghanistan than Mr. Apoligetic did.
Right wing what? This has to do with the Federal government overstepping its role. Obama hasn\'t a clue how to bring this economy back. He thinks taxing people more is going to help? He is a typical big spending Democrat. Free markets are set up so that only the successful succeed. This isn\'t a participation sport where even if you fail, you still get an award.

Do you really think for one second that if Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and a few other states left the Union that our troops would invade if Obummer asked them to? Most of our troops despise him and come from this area of the country and would not take an order to kill their own countrymen from him. Not to mention, unlike you libs - we are armed. So by all means try and take it back. The Mexican Army? What? You have to be kidding me. A Boy Scout troop could fend them off.
Hypothetically, I think it would be the rest of the US that wouldn\'t survive if we left. The northeast would starve and freeze to death. The west coast is nearly bankrupt now, with the loss of a few states it would be a reality.

I\'m not one for secession, but if they did, and they had a better tax code than the US\'s I would leave in a heartbeat. I think the military would def back secession in most cases.

What\'s that about history and being doomed to repeat it? :)
OK,AK, and TX...yea that is much better :)
You would get fucked again. It would suck if it turned out to to be north vs south again. I\'d have to move back up north...fuck the south.
Do you really think you could survive without federal assistance?
You bet your ass the military would back the government, otherwise they would end up in jail or could just go to the other side. Do you really think the majority would go with a crazy state or two that decided to go solo?

What federal assistance are you referring to? I don\'t think you understand that all of our tax revenue goes to the federal government so they can redistribute it to other states. We get a small portion back - but that is already ours to begin with.
If Texas alone left the Union - and yes Texas was a Republic once - the US would be fucked. Almost all of the nations refineries are here.
Yes, I do believe the military would go with the states that left if it happened under this current administration. The military hates Obama. Veterans hate Obama. Do you seriously think the majority of people would stomach the killing of their former countrymen when they can\'t even stomach 4000 US casualties in Iraq over a 4 year period? Good luck getting them to "invade" Texas.
If it were up to me, I wouldn\'t even give you and others the chance to "relocate", I would relocate you all into labor camps ;)
In all seriousness though the current government is trashing civil liberties and turning this country into a nanny state. Why do you think gun and ammo sales are at record levels? Veterans are being listed as potential terrorists by the Department of Homeland Security? The president is firing people from private corporations and taking them over or forcing them into deals like Chrysler merging with Fiat (btw didn\'t GM pay Fiat billions just to go away a few years ago?), this administrations stamping out of any criticism, the Fairness Doctrine is being tossed around... seriously, WTF!?
Then again, swine flu this fall may not make any of this relevant.
-
You are truely crazy if you think the US could not survive without Texas.
That is about the only thing Texas has a monopoly on, oil and refineries. Do not think the US wouldn\'t just refine elsewhere or through another country.
This is ridiculous any way as that retarded gov. Perry does not even support this idea.

I don\'t see the seceding process happening at all. Most polls show that most americans approve of how he\'s handling the economy. If his numbers were somewhere near bush\'s during his last few months, then maybe i would agree that some states are thinking about seceeding...:D The way you describe the military\'s hatred of Obama is as if the majority of the country feels that way and that is simply not the case.
The only thing i feel Obama needs to be careful of, is his intervention of firing ceo\'s...now that is something i don\'t think he should be doing. I understand him wanting the american car division to produce a strong fleet, but that firing was a wee bit too hands on. I would\'ve felt more satisfied had he done that to those ceo\'s over at AIG that was abusing the use of taxpayers funds.
I feel that the entire car industry is struggling whether you\'re GM or Toyota. At the same time tho, if these companies are comin\' back to the fed every 4 or 5 months talkin\' about they need more money just to stay open, i\'m not sure if it\'s wise to keep giving them 3 billion here or 5 billion there. I also think it\'ll be a huge blow to our economy if any of our big three vanish...not to mention the unemployment numbers that would arise out of that....idk....there\'s no easy choices.

They are just as soft.
If anything, they should have made them draft a new law. They folded due to political pressure and internal pressure.....................
Obama had little to do with ppl quitting cushy jobs........

The UAW owns Chrysler. Pathetic really since the UAW is the primary cause of where the US auto industry is today. If Obama really wanted to fix things he would severly curb the power that the UAW has over automakers.
I might be in the market for a fun car and was seriously looking at the Challenger, not so sure now. I would rather go with the Camaro or even the Shelby 500GT since I have no faith in a company that is basically run by the UAW.

Plus many fail to realize that these companies will not just vanish. Someone will come along and purchase them.
I just do not want that someone to be a foreign country.

Yeah...that\'s my main concern.....even tho it\'s on a lower scale, look at what happened with budweiser brewing co. They were the biggest american brewing company...now owned by a foreign entity.....even tho i rarely drank budweiser, it was kinda like a symbol of america. The only bright spot was that none of the employees got fired or were affected by the exchange of ownership....it\'s still business as usual, but they are no longer american owned.
And Giga...i would\'ve went with the camaro anyway....the challenger is nice, but i like the camaro styling a wee bit more...it looks like a mini-vet in the back...:fro:...My boy at work went to go see one yesterday and he highly recommends gettin\' the 8 cylinder which puts out 400+ horses and has a nice heavy deep sound to it. I think we\'re going to be seein\' alot of those this summer.

When it comes to American cars I have always been a Ford man. Have had 2 Chevy\'s and hated them, but this new Camaro doesn\'t make me think of mullets so I may be looking at the SS.
