theres one student in my school that has a "probable" case of swine flu. not sure if theyll close the school or not. If they do everyone would be exempt from finals...not sure how they can do that since 2 of my classes (and a bunch other ones) have a midterm, project, and the final, so i dunno how they can cancel finals
my mom got sick today, but hopefully its just a normal cold. not sure where in mexico it\'s running rapant but she does work with a lot of students who drive to/from mexico every day. But that\'s just TJ, so i dont think theres a lot of cases there.

Damn Dirty Mexicans!

^^^Too funny...

I can\'t believe george bush let this happen
-
People at work here in Austin are freaking out. Apparently its impossible to find hand sanitizer in town. So friggen stupid.
-
No, not really. You see how fast this shit has been spreading around the world.
I think the media scare is not warranted, but do not underestimate this. Last time it came around it killed 30 million plus(i think that was the number)

The media scare is completely unwarranted, come back to me when this actually becomes a legitimate threat.
226 cases, 1 death in the States.

My wife is in Mexico right now, btw.

That means what exactly?
That has nothing to do with the potential of H1N1.
Go ahead and quote some statistic that says reg. flu kills 36k+ a year.

Austin, TX?

I eat bacon a lot. So I\'m immune.
-
Blame the fucking media for the hospitals being overloaded now, well that and stupid people.
-
Oh well...now the talking heads are sayin\' that the threat is not as great as it was....at least the pharmacutical(spel) companies enjoyed a small boost in their stock from this thing...:D
It really is idiotic...once you had folks talkin\' about shuttin\' down major corporations, and then you had folks slaughtering pigs all over the world in fear of this flu, (thus impacting the business side of it) all of a sudden the threat is not as bad as these experts thought...money overrides everything.

You know what, you want to worry about every single thing that could potentially kill you, go for it, but the fact is, this round of H1N1 is not a legitimate threat of being a pandemic. Even if it was, what are you going to do differently than you do now? The last time we had a legit swine flu scare that did serious damage was in 1918, every other instance since has been contained.
People here are becoming OCD with washing their hands and buying as much anti-bacteria everything they can get their grubby hands on. I hear whispered conversations about super-viruses that can withstand everything, and all around friggen mass-hysteria over something that has killed ONE person in the United States. Its just ridiculous.
And yes, I live in Austin, TX
-
Heres a little bit of wisdom from a guy I work with that I appreciated...
"A couple hundred people get the flu and now everybody wearin\' masks... A million people got AIDS and aint nobody usin\' condoms".
And Luckee, you can\'t ignore the fact that the "regular" flu kills thousands of people every year... How come we don\'t flip out like this every summer?
Oh yeah, its because the media doesn\'t tell us to.

I\'m not doing anything different. What is your point?
Are you trying to prove a media scare? I think that is obvious.
People should not underestimate new strains of virus\'.

yea..I think I stated that above.......
regular flu is just that, common and is different than this strain. seems simple to me....
-
The flu virus is different every year. Next seasons flu wont be the same as this seasons.

That is common knowledge with almost any sort of germ.
-
I just don\'t get your logic by saying, "don\'t underestimate it"
Of course it could turn into a lethal killer of millions, but how else am I supposed to look at it other than indifference? I personally can\'t do anything about it either way.
and I\'ll completely admit it, definitely read that you said the media scare was warranted, my apologies.
-

Ok, so what are we fighting about again? I\'m lost.
-
I wasn\'t aware we were fighting. *dunno*
-
Well we were!
God dammit Luckee, your opinions are wrong, and mine are right!

everyones right

tis why i made a joke thread of this thing.
slow news week so the news found their chance to use the word \'pandemic\'

Nice so do I basically, not in Austin but just outside.

I live more or less downtown. Fun city, too bad I\'m only here for another month.
-
So it\'s officially a global pandemic now, not that anyone cares about it anymore (thank god).
