It\'s funny how in an earlier interview they stated that a ps3 version of left for dead was coming....did ms pay them to say this? I don\'t care either way...i\'m not a big fan of FPS\'s anyway...even if they do have zombies in it.....my problem is just the reason they gave for not developing on it....they sound like they\'re complaining about a high school project.....and they look foolish and unprofessional while making these idiotic comments...

I believe Gabe Newell said the same thing about the PS3 very shortly after its release. They\'ve never really cared much for the PS3.
Also most Valve games are famous for their free DLC. If they have problems with the PS3 i\'m guessing that aspect of their titles on that system would suffer.
Edit: heres a quote from Gabe from 2007
Valve\'s Gabe Newell said in 2007--long before Sony\'s decline started--that the PlayStation 3 is a "waste of everyone\'s time." He went on to tell Edge Magazine that "investing in the Cell...gives you no long-term benefits. There\'s nothing there that you\'re going to apply to anything else. You\'re not going to gain anything except a hatred of the architecture they\'ve created. I don\'t think it\'s a good solution."

I can totally imagine him saying this between chews, hoagie in one hand, soda in the other. Typical lazy fat man syndrome; complain rather than take action and do the work so you at least have the knowledge to make comments.
He\'s so fucking fat and huge it makes me wanna vomit all over Squidgrind\'s crotch.

What\'s so idiotic about these comments?

That a rack of PS3s are being used by NASA to simulate Black Holes saving them millions on more expensive computers? Not exactly a useless software, is it?

didn\'t think it needed a new thread - Activision also doesn\'t seem to really care for the PS3
http://tech.yahoo.com/news/pcworld/20090619/tc_pcworld/activisionwantssonytoslashtheplaystation3spricetoo
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has said he\'s "concerned" about Sony\'s PlayStation 3, reports Times Online in an article that reveals the multi-billions game publishing giant is reevaluating its future support for the platform. According to Kotick, the PS3 is losing momentum, it\'s more expensive to develop for, the Wii and the Xbox 360 are selling better, and "games generate a better return on invested capital on the Xbox than on the PlayStation."
Consequently--if Sony won\'t cut the system\'s price--Kotick warns that Activision may have no choice but to "stop supporting" the PlayStation 3. "When we look at 2010 and 2011, we might want to consider if we support the console--and the PSP too," said Kotick, appending Sony\'s handheld to the exhortation.
But is the PS3 really losing momentum? It depends, as usual, on where you\'re standing. Since the system launched in late 2006, it\'s clearly been growing in year over year unit sales. In 2008--the system\'s best year yet--Sony sold over 10 million PS3s worldwide. And while sales have been down for all contenders recently, Sony\'s sold nearly as many PS3s worldwide as Microsoft has Xbox 360s so far this year. Of course Microsoft still has more than a third as many Xbox 360s in the wild, but since 2008, Sony\'s slowly (very slowly) been gaining.
So yes, the PlayStation 3 has lost momentum, but that\'s just to say so have the Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii. The only system managing to steer around the recession\'s gravity well so far has been the Nintendo DS.
That said, Sony\'s clearly in a pinch. Its game division lost nearly $600 million in 2008, the PS3 consistently lags in NPD\'s US sales reports, and the system charts the fewest high sales software titles month after month.
If Sony lowers the PS3\'s price, we\'ve been assuming they\'ll lose even more money. But if they keep it sky-high, they theoretically stifle sales and by virtue thereof, their growth rate, frustrating publishers, who naturally want to sell to as many customers as possible.
I\'m speculating, by the way, that when Kotick says the PS3 is "losing a bit of momentum," he\'s actually projecting near-future sales, which--if Sony maintains its current $400 price point--could start exhibiting much more serious lag. If the US economy really won\'t be "healthy" again until late 2010 or even 2011, and digital entertainment sales are in fact truly declining, it stands to reason consumers will probably shop even more frugally during the next two quarters.

i agree with EBC that theyll drop the price closer to christmas...why drop it now? there\'s no incentive to go out and buy a ps3 right now. but there will be later this year and early next year since PS3\'s upcoming games kill 360\'s
anyway, i think the game activision\'s worried about is tony hawk and that expensive peripheral...but i think its a good idea that will be poorly done by a shitty game so ill blame activision and not sony if it bombs

Powerful != easy to develop
Nor did the article mention it was useless software, he just said he\'d rather focus his efforts on platforms that allow them to allot more time in creating the experience. Makes sense to me. Oh and the playstation is hardware, not software :fighting:
Agrees Gabe Newell is a fat slob though.

Gabe can talk... When is Half Life 2 Eps 3 Comming out FAT BOY !
i know its not linked to the topic but E3 did come and go with out a Peep out of Valve on that one

Looks like my response was covered while I was gone

Choices.
(1) Listen to a "fat slob", who has made a killing off making great games and the premiere service for downloading games and updating them (STEAM).
OR
(2) Listen to a bunch of nerds who think they know better and more than the said "fat slob".
I think I\'ll go with option (1).

LOL@ mention of E3, as if E3 means a single thing now\'a\'days. Sorry, you\'re thinking of the 90\'s. Now\'a\'days E3 is nothing and shouldn\'t even be mentioned.
Thanks, play again.

E3 was pretty damn successful this year. if you disagree then you weren\'t paying attention and just ASSuming it was the same as the last few years
-
E3 was a gayfest of motion controlling gaycrap.
Seriously, anyone looking forward to E3 is just holding onto the past. Move on. And it\'s not like having a presence at E3 means a single thing.
-
So I\'m just going to translate LIC for everyone.
"E3 is not important because nothing premiered interests me, and I think the world revolves around me"
Seriously people, have we not figured out how this man thinks yet?
-
I wasn\'t too thrilled with E3 like I was when I was a kid. Not sure if it\'s because I\'m simply getting older and prefer the PC, or if it\'s because the games just aren\'t as exciting.

He a hayta!!!

E3 was donkey-shit for the last long while..last few years it was so small it was pointless, before that it was so huge that it was ridiculous and out of control. In just one year after being a joke they found a perfect balance between being too big and too small *insert dick joke*.
Most people dont even know E3 exhists, at least the casual people that are more into games than before. even theyve been exposed more to Natal because of E3 and probably think its the future of gaming (because theyre too dumb to see the disparity between what it can actually do right now and what they showed in their wack promo)
Hardcore gamers got their announcements and peaks at games they wanted to see for the most part...fucking ubisoft
E3 was successful. just because you counted it off based on past years (ironic? "anyone looking forward to E3 is just holding onto the past. Move on.") doesnt mean this year was the same. Move on
edit: that came out more aggressive than I expected...*tickles LIC*

Look at it like this.
Sure, sometimes going back to an EX-GIRLFRIEND is fun, but you\'re just living in the past and the present simply can\'t compare to the past. The same applies to E3.

When companies stop toting the next "gamechanger" at E3 it\'ll stop being relevant, until then, E3 still means something.
Just because you don\'t like the motion crap (and I agree with you), that doesn\'t mean it isn\'t where microsoft/sony/nintendo are planning their big moves.
-
By all accounts, any trade show that has a "Game changer" is then relevant.
Gotcha.
-
E3
GDC
TGS
and to a lesser extent i\'d even say Blizzcon
are all expos that are still important to the gaming industry and without a doubt the best places to check out news on what the upcoming year of videogames will be like
Blizzcon being my fav cause thats where all the D3 and SC2 news comes from :P

Gotcha.
Any trade show that every company on that floor feels compelled to reveal their gamechanger, yes, yes they are relevant.
