I remember a few people here were in to photography, like Luke and Phil?
Well anyway, thought we could share in here. :)
I got my first camera digital camera in 2001, a old Canon point-and-shoot. 2 Megapixels! :fro: Before I had used my fathers old 35mm film Konica.
Later I was going to get a DSLR during 2006-2007, the 5D from Konica Minolta.. then they went belly up. :( I ended up with the Alpha 100 from Sony which took over the DSLR production from Konica Minolta. Since then I got the A700. Mostly into macro.
Here is a mixed bag of what I have managed to capture, some new some old.

This was taken using a macro lens and a macro bellow system, taken with the A100 plus a flash. Its a little beetle guy I found in a Dandelion, he was maybe 4-5 mm.

I was actually trying to photograph the instant the match ignites, but I never got any good captures.

Wow those are gorgeous! well done. The cannon being my favourite. This has always been a hobby i\'ve wanted to get into, but don\'t know where to start :( When I have the time i\'ll figure it out i\'m sure.

I need to work on getting better glass (only have a standard lens on my cannon XT). Most of my photos were for school in some way or another which is why they are all over the place in terms of content and style.

Really just point and shoot pics with my camera, still have to learn how to use all the settings. :)

Joker: Thanks. Well all camera systems have nice not-so-expensive entry level cameras, they will do the work almost as good as the higher end stuff in good light.
The most expensive part is the glass, you really can go as crazy as you want there (thinking of price). But you build up a nice collection over time, there is a huge second hand market out there where you can save money.
But for starters a entry level camera and a regular zoom kit-lens to get a feeling for things.
Phil: Nice shots, the 2nd one I really like. Is that what you call a ice storm? Also the panorama was nice, I like to take those myself. Tricky getting a good exposure all over the panorama sometimes, but you did a great job there.
cloud345: What kind of camera do you have? Is it a DSLR or something that can shoot RAW?
I highly recommend shooting in RAW, you can play around with all sorts of stuff with a RAW file, like white balance (to make the photo look cold or warm, or adjusting for indoor lightning) and highlight-shadow.
I liked the mountain goat (?) shot. :)

Heh, yeah, that\'s as close as we get to an ice storm in the good ol\' state of Ohio. It\'s actually kind of amazing how much 2 inches of ice can do to an environment that isn\'t accustomed to ice. Power was out for a solid two weeks.
As for the pano, I had to do some extensive PS reconstruction because my tripod wasn\'t quite level (look at the trees). It was taken on the roof of a building we had climbed and I messed the level up on the climb up, such a pain.

I think you\'d be hard pushed to find anyone that could top those photographs, they are fantastic

I don\'t really have a lot of photos available, I find I enjoy photoshopping images a lot more than actually taking them. But I\'m the son of a photographer so I borrow my old man\'s gear from time to time.
I have those two online, nothing special just playing around...
This one, I was bored in my backyard and took a few pics, the spider, some candle smoke, some tree\'s and whatnot. I had been listening to Opeth so I wanted to make something that looked like their album covers.

I like the PP you did with your shots, especially when you aged the 2nd photo. Thats something I\'d like to do with some pictures. The first picture looks like something out of LOTR concept art or something, impressive.
And wtf, I thought Iceland didnt have those little buggers? :(

yeah, there\'s a bunch of spiders the size of small cars running all over the place, atleast around these parts... weird huh..
Iceland needs a David Arquette (http://www.nettekeyif.net/gir/data/media/707/eight_legged_freaks.jpg) to save it from the spiders... and the economy :p

I need to get a film scanner. I have a lot of negatives of projects i have done. I just shot off 4 rolls of film in this abandoned village where I had my friend model for me. I\'m gonna try to get them digitized and I\'ll post them if any are good. Its hard finding a lab that develops black and white. The color negatives will be no problem since its just a C41 process but the TMax film needs to be sent somewhere. Yeah, I still use film. I\'m one of them :) My Canon A1 still takes amazing photos and lenses are cheap as hell now. I\'m looking to upgrade to digital as soon as I buy a professional video camera to get my career going.

I looked at one which I saw had been approved by Discovery HD for delivering HD content to the channel, the first "pro-sumer" (?) to be so, IIRC it was the EX1 which cost around 6000USD. :eek:

My camera is mounted on a tripod with the bellow and a 135mm lens, however you dont need a bellow, my camera was just mounted on it so I used that. :P
Then the flash on its own tripod and in wireless TTL mode (the built in flash on the DSLR tells the flashgun when and how much to fire). Then I just taped the match to something, ignite the match by holding a cigar-lighter (the kind where the fire comes out at the side) underneath, then triggering everything with a wired remote. The A4 paper sheet you see underneath the match is to reflect light back up onto the match.
I had black paper as background.

Damn...we really have some talented folks in here...:thumb:...those are some really impressive pics fast...I also like that black & white photo from phil...and the pic with the hand with the aged effects on it is pretty slick as well....overall tho everybody has done a great job...they really do look professional.

You talking about still cameras? I use the Canon A1. It was released in 1978, I believe, and its been my favorite camera I\'ve ever shot with. Still can find 35mm film cheaply and if its C41, you can get it developed at any photolab. Just go to CVS or Walgreens (Walgreens I feel has the better labs). Though if you can find a lab that has Fuji equipment, I recommend it. Those are the processors I used at my old lab and the image quality is incredible as compared to other company\'s equipment.
Anyway, back to the camera. The A1 is relatively cheap. I bought my camera on Craigslist for 150 with lenses included. But the thing you have to worry about is the quality of what you\'re buying. My camera came with 5 lenses. 2 wide angles, a zoom, a prime telephoto and a teleconverter. All work flawlessly. However, my shutter seized a few weeks after I bought it, so I had to spend 130 to get that repaired. If you get an old camera, I\'d get the A1 since it was the professional FD lens mount camera Canon built. But also remember you should expect servicing when buying an old camera, especially if the camera sits in a closet with no use.
However, if you have say the Canon Rebel XTi and have the EF mount lenses, I\'d get an EF mount film SLR since I don\'t feel its worth buying a whole different lens system. The ElanII is really good. I have that camera and it works really well but I don\'t have the money to spend on EF lenses so I\'m not getting any use out of that camera. I actually may sell it to free up space in my camera bag. Its only my backup but I use my SD900 as backup so it gets no use. I just press the shutter every now and then to get the parts moving.
