85 Fans of inFAMOUS might be excited to hear Sucker Punch is already thinking about their next project. But what might each position allude to?
A \'Lead Character Artist\', a requirement of which is to be "aware of current urban style and street fashion".
An \'Art Director\' to improve the aesthetic quality of future games.
A \'Lead Animator\' to take the character performances to "the next level of depth, believability and impact"
And a \'Network Programmer\' to implement an "on-line component for our forthcoming AAA title".
inFAMOUS sequel, with improved graphics/animation and an online component? We\'ll be waiting a while for the announcement, for sure.
Hi everyone! This is Zico Liu, programmer on WipEout HD; you all might remember me from the “Beat Zico” trophy. Before I talk about what I’ve been up to on the WipEout HD Fury expansion pack, I would just like to let you know that the pack will be available from PlayStation Store on Thursday, July 23rd for $9.99.
The pack will provide three new race types – Eliminator, Zone Battle and Detonator, 12 new tracks, 13 new ships, 6 new music tracks, a redesigned menu system, a new campaign to complete as well a host of new trophies to win. Oh and let’s not forget the additional ranks for you to achieve online. We are really excited about the content and hope you enjoy all the new features.
Also, on Tuesday July 21st, we are releasing a free update to the existing game. If you boot up WipEout HD at around 5pm GMT, you will be prompted to download the update. It will add a number of new features and tweaks to menus of the game including a brand new statistics section, new redesigned ship and track select screens and some new community/online features.
Now let’s get back to what I’ve been up to since HD was originally released. I’ve been busy working on the new game modes, mostly Eliminator and Zone Battle but also a bit on Detonator...
All in all, Fury is a wonderful addition to WipEout HD – the new sections are incorporated nicely, there are new Trophies and ship models to work with and we’re sure that the WipEout community will absolutely lap up the new tracks. WipEout HD Fury is out tomorrow on the PlayStation Store as part of what we’ve called the PSN’s best week so far.
Sony Computer Entertainment chairman and CEO Kazuo Hirai will be delivering this year\'s Tokyo Game Show keynote address, the event\'s organisers have announced.
The session entitled \'New Tactics for 2009\' will take place on September 24 at 10.30am. A two hour time slot has been allotted and will include a panel discussion with execs from Capcom, Sony, Bandai Namco and Square Enix, according to the event website.
This year\'s Tokyo Game Show will take place between September 24 and 27. The full line up of speakers is yet to be confirmed.
Castle Crashers has been one of the bright lights on Xbox Live Arcade since it was released last August. The stylized side-scrolling brawler offered a winning mix of solid action, quirky charm, and four-player co-op play. Unfortunately, PlayStation 3 owners haven\'t been able to get in on the fun--until now. The Behemoth is taking the wraps off of Castle Crashers for the PlayStation 3 at Comic-Con today and is showing off the first playable version of the upcoming downloadable title. We paid the California-based developer a visit for a first look...
It\'s official. A blog update on the official Japanese Yakuza series website has confirmed that Yakuza 4 is in development and under the subtitle, Inherit The Legend. The game will use the latest in motion capture technology to make characters and voice-overs appear as real as can be.
The game\'s listed for PlayStation 3. We\'ll have more as it comes in.
Taiwan OEMs recently have placed significant orders for key Sony PS3 components from IC distributors, with average monthly volume enough for making one million units of the games console in the third quarter, double the average in the second quarter, according to sources with IC distributors.
The sources estimated the growth momentum will remain strong through October thanks to the year-end holiday demand.
PS3\'s chipset is provided by Renesas Technology, and supply is falling short of the strong demand currently, the sources noted.
Sales of time division synchronizers used in PS3 have also increased, and shipments are expected to top four million units per month in the third quarter, added the sources.
Kotaku writes.... Japan\'s DDM.tv is bringing on-demand Blu-ray quality HD adult movies to the PLAYSTATION 3.
The service requires a broadband connection, an HDMI cable and, obviously, a PS3 console - the only device the service works with presently.
This is where you can start hemming and hawing over the mystery game in question, and before you even ask, NO, this isn\'t the secret PlayStation 3 exclusive that we at PSXE know about. That remains vaulted.
Anyway, Capcom has teased the snot out of the entire gaming community by issuing a Tweet, which very clearly hints at a brand new sequel. Supposedly, whatever it is, it\'s gonna "blow our minds." Here\'s the message for those of you who are morally opposed to the idea of Twitter (we know you people are out there, and we don\'t necessarily blame you):
"In five, we\'re having a meeting to discuss a new game sequel that will BLOW YOUR MIND when you find out about it... much, much later."
The bad news is that "much, much later" part, but what do you think it might be? We\'ve been pining for Devil May Cry 5 ever since the fourth installment gave us so much quality entertainment, although we get the feeling they\'re already working on that. We suppose it could be another Resident Evil or Monster Hunter or something, but neither would be any big surprise. Perhaps it\'s a project like Okami 2...? They just did a new Street Fighter and we already know about Lost Planet 2...maybe a Phoenix Wright for home consoles (instead of handhelds)? Or, for the RPG fans, how\'s about a new Breath of Fire?
The emphasis in the here and now however is on something that PS3 owners should be getting very excited about...
"We are currently concentrating on new game projects and I am happy to say that we will be announcing something at gamescom in Cologne," revealed Kuittinen. "All I can say right now is that it is a PS3 PSN exclusive title we have been working on quite a while now, and yes... shooting is an integral part of the game..."
Well, thanks to SCEE forum moderator Yaster, the whole World now knows that Lost And Damned will be heading the way of the PS3 (we don’t call it PlayStation 3 anymore, as no-one else is). In a thread on the PlayStation.com forums (which has now been removed, presumably by another moderator) a rather excitable Yaster said, in reference to Gamescom opening up to the public today:
And they were certainly showing some PS3 love – Grand Theft Auto: The Lost and the Damned was available to play in a special 18+ area, we didn’t manage to get our hands on it due to the MASSIVE queue – but those inside looked pretty ***** excited.
Sony has confirmed that the changes made to the new PS3 Slim SKU are not just cosmetic: additional features have been added, and OtherOS functionality has been removed.
In this press release, the company confirms that support for the Linux platform has been completely omitted in the new unit, but also reveals that perhaps more usefully, the new unit now interfaces directly with Sony\'s own Bravia HDTVs, allowing users to take control of the XMB via their television remotes. It also allows you to turn off both display and PS3 using just a single press of the standby button. All that is required to utilise this feature is for the new PS3 to be connected to the display using the standard HDMI connection. The new functionality essentially makes the PS3\'s enviable media-playback facilities that much more accessible and user-friendly to those who also buy into Sony\'s range of screens.
The omission of Linux is a little more puzzling, but perhaps not completely surprising. Actual take-up of Linux amongst the core audience has been slight, and perhaps some of the blame for this lies with Sony itself: installing the OS is time-consuming, the partitioning system on the internal hard disk is a bit of a pain, and access to Linux once it is installed is annoying to deal with, as there is no easy way to switch quickly between the PS3 GameOS or the installed OtherOS. The fact there is little to no meaningful access to the RSX graphics chip has also frustrated Linux users.
Sony\'s blurb states that the focus of the PS3 Slim is "on delivering games and other entertainment content" and that this is the reason for OtherOS omission, but the fact is that Sony\'s business lives and dies on its installed base buying games for their new hardware, and a PS3 bought exclusively for running Linux does the company no favours from a financial perspective. Right now, the PS3 Slim is still more expensive than buying an entry-level Dell which would perform better with the OS, but with console hardware in general and PS3 Slim in particular, the only way is down price-wise, and sooner or later PS3 would become an irresistible prospect as a cheap desktop PC, or even server... uses which sound cool but won\'t boost Sony\'s bottom line.
What the axing of Linux does mean however is that interesting projects such as the CodecSys h264 video encoder will not work on the new PS3 SKU, and any similar projects aimed at utilising the Cell CPU in a project not licensed and approved by Sony are now less likely to make it to the public. However, from Sony\'s perspective, the removal of OtherOS functionality also has other benefits. For example, it means that the PS3 can now no longer be used to rip Blu-ray movies to hard disk...
Do you like dungeon crawlers, but are stuck with a laptop that just barely manages to handle Aliens vs. Predator 2? If so, welcome to my world. It\'s a world doomed to never enjoy Diablo III -- or is it? Blizzard has continued to provide hope that console gamers will be able to loot skellingtons, with chief operating officer Paul Sams confirming that it\'s not been ruled out.
Geoff Keighly who hates bloggers Tweeted the news: "Paul Sams of Blizzard says they haven\'t ruled out Diablo III for consoles -- and are currently talking to the first parties."
Blizzard has never said that Diablo III won\'t come to consoles, dangling a carrot in front of our faces for quite some time. This is the first indication that Blizzard is making serious moves to make this happen, and that\'s good news.
Even I may buy a PS3 when the slim is out!
That looks pretty cool.
Has anyone been playing Fat Princess?
Some of you may remember when our source told us about Sony\'s plans to unveil firmware 3.0, a revamped PSN, PS3 Slim, and a price cut on older models to $299 weeks before Sony actually did announce those things at GameCom in Cologne Germany.
Well, now our source has given us a bit of information about Sony\'s TGS plans. We were told not to expect the same megaton announcements that we got at GamesCom, but instead for things to be a lot more software focused. We heard that Hideo Kojima will probably detail his next project or projects (the exact wording was "he will detail a FEW concepts"). Our source did specify that they doubted that Kojima will have any gameplay footage available to show, being that these projects are still in their infancy. Chances are there simply isn\'t much to show at this point. So, what could it be? Something new? A new Zone of the Enders game? Both? Let\'s hope so!
Publisher Take-Two is going to have a very busy—and likely very profitable—beginning to 2010, with a quartet of top-tier releases all hitting in the first half of next year. That means BioShock 2, Max Payne 3 and more.
Take-Two chairman Strauss Zelnick said during an earnings call today that Mafia II, Red Dead Redemption, BioShock 2 and Max Payne 3 would all be shipping sometime between February and June of 2010. That\'s a pretty packed schedule, but it\'s not like Take-Two has much choice.
Some of those games were pushed back from originally planned 2009 releases, joining the ever crowded Q1 and Q2 of next year. Take-Two gave a looser release window for some of those games back in July. At the time, Take-Two execs blamed a softer economy and development issues.
But Zelnick sounded confident that all four heavy hitters would ship in that five month window.
Rockstar Games, developer of two of the slipped titles that now have more firm sounding release plans, has had a little trouble making its dates this generation, with similar slips on Midnight Club Los Angeles and Grand Theft Auto IV.
So anyone got the slim yet? :D
EYE pet, with info & video, release date Nov 17th.
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/08/28/eyepet-in-stores-on-november-17/
I\'ll get this for my children, they love it :D
Looking for a great new title to get with shiny new PS3 Slim? Even if you aren’t new to the PlayStation family and have an older model, now is the time to get a great new title for your PS3. GoHastings.com is offering Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for only $19.99. This is $10 cheaper than any other retail price. If you don’t have this game in your collection, now is the time to get it.
Regarded as one of the greatest games this generation, Metal Gear Solid 4 is the final chapter in the saga of Solid Snake. Showcasing amazing graphics, gameplay, and movie like sequences, this game still remains as one the premiere PS3 titles.
Sony recently announced that the first two games in the God of War series would be getting a Blu-ray revamp, and the possibilities for more last-gen reruns have opened up. Capcom are masters of the re-release, and it\'s no surprise that the Japanese publisher is interested in copying God of War: Collection with a compilation of its own, potentially breathing new life into Devil May Cry.
Capcom USA\'s Christian Svensson dropped the hint on the official Capcom forums, stating that he\'d be "first in line" for God of War: Collection and using the discussion to slip in some market research: "I don\'t want anyone reading this the wrong way (as I\'m not saying anything like this could happen) but I\'m seeing some interested for DMC to get this treatment ... are there other titles you\'d like see go this way?
"I\'m looking for some temperature readings."
How about it? Would you want a Devil May Cry: Collection to join God of War? What PS2 franchises would you like to see get the hi-def treatment next? I know I\'m totally alone in this, but give me a reissue of BloodRayne and I\'m sold.
Eurogamer has caught word that Sony is planning on unleashing three 250GB PlayStation 3 Slim bundles in the UK this year, which will apparently arrive on store shelves as early as October.
Citing a ‘trusted retail source’ (who wises to remain anonymous), the site claims that the bundles will offer a choice between heavy hitters such as Assassin’s Creed II, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Gran Turismo 5. Each bundle will apparently set you back approximately £299.99 GBP of your hard earned cash.
Given the release dates of the above three games, its reasonable to assume that Uncharted 2 will be the first bundle to arrive, since Assassin’s Creed II doesn’t arrive until November and GT5’s launch details are still up in the air (though it should be here by Christmas nonetheless).
Sony has yet to make any formal announcement on the new bundles, though we’ll be sure to let you know of any developments as soon as we get them.
Just about 2 years ago today, Ninja Theory and Sony teamed up to deliver the heavily hyped Heavenly Sword. Though the game wasn\'t perfect(what game is?), it was a great adventure that ultimately came just shy of living up to the hype - critically and commercially. Since then, the franchise was put on indefinite hold, despite a trilogy being planned from the start. Ninja Theory announced they would be working on a new project, but told us not to give up hope on a sequel.
And now, we know what they\'ve been working on over the past two years. Ninja Theory will be announcing their latest title next month, in Game Informer magazine. Ninja Theory\'s new title, Enslaved, is a post-apocalyptic journey and will be launched across multiple platforms.
Star Ocean: The Last Hope is officially heading to the Playstation 3. The latest Famitsu issue reveals that the previously Xbox 360 exclusive game will be ported to the Playstation 3 as Star Ocean: The Last Hope International.
The upcoming title is more than a straight port as it will contain new characters, better menus, improved targeting during battles, and dual-language support for English and Japanese in addition to subtitles for multiple languages. Star Ocean: The Last Hope International will be released in Japan on February 4, 2010.
Just a few days ago Sega rep Aaron Webber commented that the possibility of Yakuza 3 coming to the U.S. still exists and that it\'s a subject discussed quite often at Sega. Today we can do one better: we\'ve learned that the PS3 exclusive is indeed coming west. According to sources close to the project, Yakuza 3 is currently being localized for release in the U.S. and European markets.
And while this is still not the official confirmation many are seeking, it\'s definitely reason to keep up hope. We anticipate more news on this front will be coming from Sega -- or another publisher, were the game shopped around -- in the coming weeks or months. It\'s possible we could even hear sooner: the Tokyo Game Show occurs later this week, and if you remember, Sega announced Yakuza 2 for the U.S. at the 2007 show.
In other Yakuza news, it\'s also only a few more days until Yakuza 4 is revealed at TGS.
A retail source close to NowGamer has confirmed that the rumoured SKU will be available in the UK from next week
Following not-particularly-hot on the heels of the new PS3 Slim, the 250GB console arrives amid news of Microsoft\'s new \'Super Elite\' Xbox 360 bundles, set to appear in conjunction with Forza 3 next month.
“It seems the battle for the heavyweight games machines has begun”
It seems the battle for the heavyweight games machines has begun, although you\'d need to download quite a few PSN/XBL games to fill up 250GB. Is the increased storage an indicator of how much data future titles are set to install, or maybe the size of upcoming downloads? We\'re not sure, but what we do know is the new 250GB PS3 will cost £300 when it hits retailers…
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe today announced a line-up of PlayStation3 (PS3) bundles for the holiday season, consisting of a PS3 with a 250GB hard disc drive (HDD) and one of a selection of software and content, including FIFA 10 and Need for Speed Shift. The bundles will be available throughout retail in Europe October 2009
From the Press Release:
Following the success of the new, smaller, 120GB PS3, which sold over 1m units worldwide in its first three weeks on sale, the PS3 model with 250 HDD has the same hardware specifications as the current model, but with greater storage space, to offer consumers even more choice.ThePS3 system with 250GB HDD, with its larger storage capacity, will allow owners to take full advantage of the incredible software line-up and the many multimedia functions available on PS3, whether that is storing and viewing your family photographs, listening to your entire music collection in crisp quality, or watching your favourite home videos or TV shows. More storage allows you to download more of the latest games and add-ons from PlayStation®Store, as well as movies in both HD and SD from the PlayStation®Network video delivery service when it launches later this year, without worrying about running out of space.
Our source at the Tokyo Game Show was invited to a private showing of a new game – Wild Arms 6. Wild Arms 6 was announced today at the Tokyo Game Show during a press conference. Very little is know about the game as it currently stands, but one can take it’ll play like Wild Arms 1 through 5. The game is set to be released in ‘Late 2010 in Japan’. No word on an international version.
Take this one with a grain of salt folks, as it is WAAAY out there. However it does come from a reliable source. After reporting on a few insider tips about Sony\'s Gamescom plans which came out to be true (Well, all but one.), we decided to try to find out what was going on for TGS. We were told not to expect too much, just a focus on the games we\'ve already heard about. Turns out, it was pretty much just that. A showcase of games we\'ve heard about already, as well as a new title or two. But no earth shattering news coming from anyone this TGS.
However, we did hear about some things in the future. After asking about if Agent would be shown at TGS, we were told that it would not but that "Sony and R* have something big" planned. When asked what it was, they said "something exclusive". I then thought they were unaware of Agent\'s exclusivity, so I reminded them and they replied "This isn\'t about Agent. It\'s a franchise that is already out.". I told them GTA would be too much of a stretch considering how good the game did on the Xbox 360, to which they replied "Money isn\'t always everything". Not proof that they were talking about GTA, but very suggestive.
"I don\'t think it will be announced this year. But what can I say is PlayStationS (accent on that S) might be the only platform to get ALL games from some big franchise."
Could it be timed exclusivity? The wording they used seems to go against that. But for a company to lose out on a 30 million system install base by not releasing the game on a rival console, that\'s pretty risky. The only thing I can think of, is that something like disc space limitations could be preventing them from releasing the game on DVD. A game like Grand Theft Auto cannot have disc swaps unless it prevents you from being able to freely travel from island to island. Otherwise you\'d have to get up and swap discs just to ride to your girlfriend\'s place on the other island. Many accused Rockstar of making GTA4\'s game world smaller than San Andreas because of Xbox 360\'s DVD format limitations.
It could also just be that PS3 will be the one to get the exclusive content next time. Time will tell.
It is also worth mentioning, that when we asked our source about the cross game chat features rumored in firmware update 3.1, they responded with "I can confirm that cross title chat will be in firmware series 3.". That doesn\'t confirm 3.1, but it does still support the rumors that it is coming soon. Perhaps all the angry posts in EA\'s forum from the leak about them holding up cross game chat for PS3 actually had an effect... They did actually mention EA being pissed over that leak, then said "and why do you think you haven\'t heard anything about EA being upset?"
Recent footage has surfaced showcasing stereoscopic 3D gameplay for the PS3 at TGS 2009.
The Director of the Software Development Department for SCE, Hideyuki Agata stated that,
“Sony is looking to bring stereo vision to the home in 2010. We’d like to increase our content, in line with the start of 3D games in 2010. So far, we’ve wanted to give players a more natural experience by converting 2D games into 3D. Bringing stereo vision to the game allows the player to feel more depth, and the game world becomes more real.”
The footage shows gamers with the stereoscopic 3D glasses playing Wipeout HD.
For those not in the know, stereoscopic 3D vision is any technique which can record three-dimensional visual information or creating the illusion of depth in an image by presenting a slightly different image in each eye.
Level 5 is a rising star in the world of Japanese RPGs with titles like White Knight Chronicles, but their foundations were built much earlier with games like the Dark Cloud series. Kotaku reports that the company is willing to return to their roots if they hear significant clamor from the fan community. "At this moment we don\'t have a specific plan for a sequel in the Dark Cloud series," said Yoshiaki Kusuda. "There are many staff members, including myself at Level 5, who have worked on the Dark Cloud series. There are some who decided to join Level 5 because they love the Dark Cloud series. So, if requests from users should increase in the future, we would seriously consider making it."
Dark Cloud and its sequel were celebrated gems of the last generation that merged traditional RPG elements with city building game mechanics. Right now Level 5 is probably most known for the Professor Layton series in America, but bringing back old franchises seems to be a trend we\'re seeing more of lately. Maybe Dark Cloud fans will see something on that front soon.
It\'s certainly been a long time coming, but Bethesda has finally outlined the scheduling plans for Fallout 3 downloadable content. The first downloadable pack will be "Broken Steel," coming next Thursday, September 24. Then on October 1, all four remaining packs will be released at once for a flood of new content. Those are, of course, Operation Anchorage, The Pitt, Point Lookout, and Mothership Zeta. We assume these will be priced similar to their Xbox 360 counterparts, at $9.99 each.
If you want the downloadable content but don\'t own the game, it\'s in your best interest to wait a few more weeks. On October 13, the Game of the Year edition will hit stores with all five downloadable content packs included. It will cost $59.99 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and $49.99 on the PC. If you don\'t have the game, you\'ll get the same content that early adopters grabbed, but for fifty bucks less.
A source close to Sony has told Eurogamer that yes, Facebook is heading to PS3.
The images of the service that appeared on the PlayStation website - caught by Scrawl before removal - were posted by mistake, we\'re told.
The official Sony UK PR line is that there will be more information on this "very shortly".
Could Sony introduce Facebook to PS3 before Microsoft can to Xbox 360? Live, remember, gains Last.fm, Twitter and Facebook as part of a social update sometime this autumn period.
Metal Gear Solid 1 this week on EU PSN
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH announces the release of four Metal Gear Solid classics on Sony\'s PlayStation (R) Network announced. The reason for this novelty is also the approach the actual release of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for PSP (R) (PlayStation (R) Portable).
It starts with a classic in video game history and the most influential recent book: The original PSone version of Metal Gear Solid issued on 19 November for 9.99 euros for downloading. Metal Gear Solid series marks the first step in a full 3D game environment designed and established the fame of Hideo Kojima as a developer of world stature.
MAG is currently in the final stages of production, with Zipper stress testing the online servers and ironing out some final bugs. The game is due in just a bit more than 2 months on January 26, exclusively on the PS3. It doesn\'t look like Zipper will be taking any time off, though - the Seattle-based developer is working on another, unannounced PS3 title.
According to the LinkedIn profiles of several Zipper employees, the dev has been working on a second PS3 game for quite some time. Graham Kay, a former Design Manager of Zipper Interactive, lists that he worked on \'Massive Action Game (PS3) & Unannounced project (PS3)\'. More recently, a senior software engineer for the company, wrote that he\'s currently "developing gameplay for two PS3 games". Specifically, he works "on the core character team at Zipper developing gameplay to be used in both games currently under development for the PS3".
Earlier this summer, we spotted SOCOM 4 listed on PCB Production\'s credits page and theorized that Zipper could be working on the title. It\'s increasingly looking more and more like this is the case.
Ubisoft has just announced that a new installment in the popular Prince of Persia: Sands of Time series will be available in May 2010.
The new game, titled Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, is currently in development for consoles and handhelds.
So far we know that The Forgotten Sands will feature “many of the fan-favorite elements from the original series as well as new gameplay innovations that gamers have come to expect from the Prince of Persia brand.”
In an interview with Polygamia.pl (English version in the right-hand column) Bioware\'s Adrien Cho was asked, among other things, about the possibility of Mass Effect 2 coming out for the PS3. He does not confirm it outright, but his evasive statements indicate that something is likely going on in that direction.
He also talks about Mass Effect 2 DLC, inspirations for the game and why ME2 is better than Dragon Age.
Square Enix decided that the initial shipments of 1 million toward release, 150k on release day, and another 150k over the weekend are hardly enough and could hurt the games launch sales... shipping 1.8 million instead, as announced by Square Enix CEO, Yoichi Wada, today at the game\'s official countdown launch event in Tokyo.
Remember how the lots of you rejoiced when Sony announced Final Fantasy VII along with a bunch of other games for the PS1 Classics on PSN?
Remember how lots of other gamers asked for Final Fantasy VIII to be added to the marvelous classic release, too?
Yeah, well... be prepared to rejoice once more! In an email to customers, Final Fantasy VIII was listed in the "COMING SOON" section... well... is that official enough for you? hah!
Publisher Ubisoft has put out a good amount of AAA titles ranging across many genres since they’ve been around; although one genre they’ve yet to venture to is the role-playing game. In this week’s Famitsu, Ubisoft executive director Alain Corre speaks of their desire to create an RPG; an RPG the scale of Final Fantasy.
“Our mission is to create hit games on the same level as Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.” Corre told the Japanese magazine. “We’d like to see everyone in Japan root for us. Perhaps someday our efforts will result in a major hit on the level of a Dragon Quest.
“We’ve made shooters, strategy, sports, action, and adventure games, but not any RPGs yet. Still, we’re open to all possibilities. If we can get a quality team of RPG-oriented developers, I’d love to release one. If we have a chance to work with Japanese creators, then I’m sure we can make a game that appeals to the Japanese audience.”
In the latest issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine UK much new information has surfaced about already announced games. However there is one game mentioned that hasn’t yet been officially announced for the PlayStation 3.
Team Ninja’s Dead of Alive series has long been synonymous with the Xbox brand, mainly due to Itagaki’s (Dead of Alive and Ninja Gaiden series creator) love for Microsoft’s console. Ever since DOA 3, each following installment of Dead or Alive has been released on a Xbox console. Fortunately for PS3 owners Itagaki is longer working under TECMO which owns the Dead or Alive IP. This lead to speculation that Dead or Alive could follow Ninja Gaiden over to the PlayStation 3.
Just recently, Dead or Alive: Paradise was announced for the PSP, which further fueled hopes of the Dead or Alive series making its way onto the PlayStation 3. Now, in the latest issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine, it’s been “rumored” that Dead or Alive 5 is in development on the PlayStation 3. Exactly what fans had been hoping for since Itagaki’s departure from TECMO.
Although this reveal was in the “Rumour Machine” section of the magazine, going by the other listed “rumors”, Dead or Alive 5 is as good as confirmed. Almost all other “rumors” listed have either been announced or have been discussed recently.
I though this was worth mentionning:
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/12/introducing-sodium-one-the-next-evolution-of-playstation-home/
It\'s basically a "Free MMO Games" built inside of Playstation Home. This free thing it really good for PSN as a whole.
Michael Pachter believes that Epic Games "regrets" singing Gears of War as an exclusive title for the Xbox 360. He expressed this and more in the latest Game Trailers Bonus round where they talk about exclusivity deals are a thing of the past.
The panel, moderated by Geoff Keighley, also included Michael McWhertor of Kotaku. Asked whether or not they agree with publishers still publishing single platformt titles, Pachter responded:
"Absolutely not, and I think the Epic guys can\'t wait until when they start doing multiplatform games." So given this, does he think Gears of War will ever go multiplatform?
"I don\'t. I think that Microsoft has a contract to make sure that they get that sequel. But I think Epic regrets signing that contract. You\'re up to 11 million PS3 in the US and probably similar number in Europe, you got a 20 million addressable market with a game like Gears of War, I mean that thing would easily sell 3 or 4 million on the PS3; that\'s a lot of profit.
Am sure Epic Gears is comforted by your words, Mr. Pachter.
SCEA officially announced today that GTA IV: Episodes from Liberty City is coming to the PlayStation 3 this March 30th, 2010. After the rumors broke out this week from a retailer, SCEA finally confirmed the rumor to be legit. The game will get both the digital and retail disc similar to the XBOX 360 version.
It seems the exclusivity contract of Microsoft with Rockstar finally expired. Now, if you’re itching to get Lost and the Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony on the PS3, now is the time to wait and pre-order!
In the first episode, The Lost and Damned, players will become immersed in the dark underworld of Liberty City and its motorcycle gangs led by Johnny Klebitz and The Lost motorcycle club. Players will follow the shady exploits of Luis Lopez in the second episode, The Ballad of Gay Tony, as he becomes involved in Liberty City’s fast-paced, corrupt nightclub scene. Both episodes feature new vehicles, weapons, and music.
“Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City has been one of the most requested gameplay experiences by PlayStation fans, and we’re thrilled to finally bring the closing chapters of the GTA IV story from one of the biggest franchises in gaming to PS3,” said Rob Dyer, senior vice president of publisher relations, SCEA.
Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City for PS3 will become available in stores on March 30, 2010 in North America at a recommended retail price (RRP) of $39.99. The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony also will be available on the same day in North America to purchase separately on PlayStation®Store via PlayStation Network for $19.99.
Fresh off of the release of Final Fantasy XIII in Japan, Square Enix revealed that they are currently working on five unannounced projects in the latest Famitsu issue. The publisher said that two of those are planned for 2010.
Furthermore, Square Enix is expected to make an announcement related to Dragon Quest later this summer. Could it be related to Dragon Quest X on the Nintendo Wii?
Final Fantasy XIII will be released in North America on March 9th for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
In the latest edition of Famitsu magazine, among lots of other big news, you can find Square Enix revealing the fact that they are working on five new and unannounced projects - quite a lot, wouldn\'t you say?
This is an article that wants your many and different speculations as to what they could be...
Your playing field is very wide - not only does SE own a huge array of their own IP\'s - coveted RPG series for the most part, but after purchasing Eidos in a huge deal last year, they own their IP\'s also, and that means one of these, two of these, or (God forbid) ALL of these could be based on Eidos IP\'s such as Hitman, Tomb Raider, or Thief.
It\'s also expected that Square Enix is going to make an announcement regarding Dragon Quest later this summer (oh boy, announcing your announcement that early?). It could be related to the Wii\'s DQ X, but hey, it could be something else.

EA has demoed it\'s Modern Warfare rival at GDC, unveiling new screens - and new details
We last heard from EA\'s FPS reboot a few weeks ago with what new screens of what appeared to be an Afghanistan-based daytime mission. Now EA has shown off what it describes as the \'scalpel\' portion of the campaign compared to the hoo-rah \'sledgehammer\' all-guns-blazing portion. Check out the new screens below, which seem to show the elite Tier-1 operators doing their covert thing at night.
“The screens show the Tier-1 operators doing their covert thing at night...”
According to Joystiq, the game\'s producer also confirmed that the build being shown at GDC is 60 per cent complete, while the lead development platform is, unusually for an Unreal Engine-based shooter, the PlayStation 3...
Sony Santa Monica has announced it has two new projects in pre-production at the studio: a week before its most recent project, God of War III, launches.John Hight, product development director at the studio, told MTV:“We’re jumping right back in, I’ve got a small concept team working on our next product for us.“We’re actually gonna do something different this time, we’re gonna have a short-term concept, a game that we hope to turn out.”So when can we expect to hear of this new project?“I’m not gonna say when.”Oh.“But then, we have a much longer term concept team going through, two teams going on at once.“One with a kind-of long-range, ‘Here’s what we’re gonna do years down the road’, and then another one that’s, ‘Here’s what we’re gonna do as the very next project’.”Awesome stuff. As for now, God of War III is due out for release next week for PS3.
The latest Famitsu issue contains some new details regarding the upcoming Playstation 3 RPG, White Knight Chronicles 2.
According to the Japanese gaming magazine, the battle gauge in the sequel has been sped up compared to the first game. Furthermore, you can now use the dash ability. White Knight Chronicles 2’s environments will also be more dynamic as the scenery can change with the different seasons and weather patterns. Finally, a new character named Miu will be joining the cast.
RPG fans don’t have to wait that much longer for White Knight Chronicles 2 as Famitsu revealed that it is slated for a summer release in Japan.
Quantic Dream just finished with Heavy Rain a couple of months ago and they are now busy crafting some new DLC for the title with Heavy Rain Chronicles, which will see the first chapter \'The Taxidermist\' release on April 1st, but Cage and his team aren\'t slowing down.
While talking to on the latest episode of GTTV, David Cage stated that he has already written his next title and that we will see the game sooner than we think. Cage stated: "I have written the next game and have a very clear idea. It\'s not fully written, it\'s in the synapses stage, but I have a very clear idea of where I want to go next." When asked about the next game, Keighley says we\'ll have a long wait, in which Cage replied: "Yeah, maybe less then you think."
With the development cycle for games taking a couple of years now, it\'s likely whatever Cage is planning to develop next won\'t be viewed by the public or media for another couple of years, however, knowing he has already written the basics for the story is a major plus. If it uses the same engine as Heavy Rain, perhaps the wait will be far shorter.
What we do know is that it won\'t be a Heavy Rain sequel. He has stated in the past he won\'t revisit the Heavy Rain universe and will create a new world for us to explore. Whatever he is conjuring up, let\'s hope it\'s as original and innovated as Heavy Rain. We\'ll have a full review of the Taxidermist chapter go live on Monday. We have the latest screens of the DLC below in the slideshow.
In what seems to be a record day for big announcements made in underwhelming ways, Sony has confirmed the existence of LittleBigPlanet 2, with a company representative confirming that the game will support the Move controller.
News comes via Tweakers.net (thanks Eurogamer), with a Sony Benelux employee revealing that motion control would be a part of the game. Sony recently bought Media Molecule, who previously worked on the exceptionally well received original game.
IGN has approached Sony Computer Entertainment Europe for official confirmation.
Following the announcement of Portal 2, it was soon revealed that the game would be coming to the Xbox 360, PC and Mac. Valve continued to stress that they would only develop for Sony’s console if they could spend the sufficient time and money needed. Valve may now have achieved that goal, with the appearance of the game on the cover of the PS3-only magazine PSM3.
Portal 2 was announced by Valve last month and we had hoped that the game might make its way to the PlayStation 3. That occurrence seemed unlikely due to the developer’s past with the console, and their disappointment with EA’s PS3 port of The Orange Box.
Valve’s Doug Lombardi was quick to announce that Portal 2 was coming to the PC, Mac and Xbox 360 and with no mention of the PS3, our hopes were dashed. That is until the latest issue of the PlayStation 3 Magazine, PSM3. If you look under “Featuring…” on the front cover, you’ll find Portal 2. A mistake? Or a leak?
Ubisoft’s Maxime Béland has told VG247 that as far as Splinter Cell on PlayStation 3 goes in the future, the company is taking a ‘wait and see’ approach. In an exclusive interview published this morning, however, the creative director of Conviction said Microsoft “has been wonderful” in supporting the title for Xbox 360, which is exclusive to the platform on consoles.“We’ll have to see what decisions are made by Ubisoft’s management in the future,” he said. “The decision for Conviction was purely a business move. Microsoft have been wonderful in their support for Conviction.”He added: “It’s been an absolute pleasure working with them on Splinter Cell Conviction.”Officially, Ubisoft’s said time after time that Splinter Cell: Conviction would be a 360-exclusive, despite numerous claims on the contrary.Unofficially, however, two CVs had been spotted recently, noting that a PS3 version of the title in the works. The most recent PlayStation titles in the series were Double Agent for PS2 and PS3 in 2006 and 2007 respectively, with Ubisoft Montreal handling the PS2 version and Ubisoft Shanghai developing for PS3.
Square Enix USA, perhaps taking a hint from all of Square Enix Japan’s Twitter talk, is teasing an unannounced game.
“Oh and working on stuff for an unannounced game,” Sonia Im, Assistant Director of Public Relations at Square Enix tweeted. “Think people are going to be shocked and stoked ”
Shocked and stoked? Xenogears 2 would fit that description for me, but I’ll curb my expectations now. There are a ton of games Square Enix USA could announce for North America like Nanashi no Game and The 3rd Birthday. None of those would be “shocking” though. Perhaps, this is something brand new.
Before you post your guess in the comments remember Square Enix owns Eidos. Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, and Kane & Lynch 2, those are all Square Enix properties.
Disney has an exciting announcement to make today regarding Toy Story 3. Not only will the PS3 version exclusively feature the ability to play as Zurg, but it will also include some PlayStation Move minigames. Here’s John Day from Avalanche Software to give you some more info on this game, which will be releasing alongside the movie this Summer.
In Story Mode, the player plays as Buzz, Woody, and Jessie, each with their own unique play style, to play through eight action platforming levels. While not a complete retelling of the movie plot, the player will visit some of the places, and meet some of the new and classic characters that are in the film. We take the player to some totally new places as well. Also in Story Mode, we’ve stashed all of our collectibles. The collectibles, when found, allow the player to unlock new toys for the Toy Box.
The Toy Box is a totally different experience from Story Mode. Here we put the player in an open, non-linear environment and allow them to play with Andy’s toys any way they like. The player is free to complete missions for different characters, customize the people and buildings, race in various vehicles, and much more. The more adventurous and creative you are, the more you will get rewarded. I encourage you to unleash your imagination in this mode of the game.
In the Toy Box, the player can play as Buzz, Woody, or Jessie. I am happy to announce that exclusively on the PlayStation 3, you can also play as Zurg! Zurg has many of his own unique missions. Whether it’s driving around in his own custom vehicle, or blasting everything in sight with his tri-gun, players can help Zurg achieve his singular goal of eliminating Buzz Lightyear, or just do whatever else they’d like. Check out our Zurg launch trailer and game screens for a taste of what you can do as this dastardly villain and don’t forget to watch out for Toy Story 3: The Video Game in-stores, 16th July!
Will we finally have toy story-like graphics??!!......:D
The next Red Faction game - which looks to be subtitled \'Armageddon\' - will be revealed "later this month", THQ\'s said in its quarterly earnings call.
Speaking to CVG earlier this year, VP of Core Games, Danny Bilson confirmed that the next Faction will be released this year and said that "it\'s different from the last one but similar."
He said: "It\'s sort of a combo of the old one and the new one, so it\'s... I don\'t want my marketing guy to be pissed at me for giving away too much, but it goes back underground and it\'s really cool."
Bilson also claimed that the next instalment is set to have "insane upgrades". We\'ll be the judge of that, Mr. B.
You can also expect to see a Red Faction TV movie on satellite channel, SyFy this year.
Now, before I go any further, I cannot exclaim anymore that this is purely rumour and speculation. In fact, it may be nothing at all concerning Assassin\'s Creed 3 whatsoever. However, read the information below and see what you make of it.
Ubisoft just sent me an email with a very strange subject header. I\'ll copy it below.
Subject: Message from Abstergo
An offering to you who welcome a new dawn of man.
Take this image and answer our call. A great battle looms to finish
the past and begin the future. Stand ready to serve.
We will send for you soon.
There are rumblings over at VirtuaFighter.com with rumours of Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown recieving a console release for Christmas 2010 or March 2011. Obviously SEGA fans are skeptical with the recent XBLA rumours being debunked, but unlike those, these come from a long time member of the VFDC Forums, and longer time Virtua Fighter fan.
Details are scarce, with one post claiming
It’s happening………………. !
But that’s all I’ll say.
Since then others have reported that the game is scheduled for a Christmas 2010 or March 2011 release, or backed up the initial post.
Fingers crossed, fans have been waiting a long time for the next Virtua Fighter.
Confirming the rumors posted the other day, PlanetXbox360 reported that Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was shown at Capcom\'s Captivate event in Hawaii.
There\'s an embargo on the details, so you won\'t be seeing screen shots, movies and other things until early next week, but here\'s the notes they were able to get together.
• Confirmed characters so far are Wolverine, Spider-Man, The Hulk, Magneto, Storm and a few others will return.
• The Marvel vs. Capcom 3 development team said they will be blowing fans out of the water with the sheer number of characters this game includes on the disc.
• This will be another 2D fighter — gameplay-wise — but will be something of a cross between the original Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Street Fighter 4.
• The rumored release date is late 2010 or early 2011 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, no plans right now for other systems.
• The game will run in 1080p resolution.
• It will be a disc-based release.
• Apparently the game will have unlockables again.
• Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will be playable at this year\'s E3 which is held on June 15 - 17th.
So what if Sony lost $893,000,000 last year; the good news: as of the end of March, the PS3 hardware is finally selling for more than it costs to produce! Despite a price cut, the availability and ever-increasing technology of the Slim, especially, have allowed Sony to make some money.
Not a lot, mind you... but Sony CFO Nobuyuki Oneda did state that "with continued cost cutting measures, the system could reach double digit profitability in the near future." Imagine, Sony might soon be making a whole ten dollars on every system sold!
This is not an uncommon practice. Game companies have traditionally sold their new consoles at a loss, then made up for that with software sales. (Except for Nintendo\'s Wii, which had the brilliant idea of making money on hardware starting at Day One, and then neglecting the software side of things. Zing!)
Unfortunately, a strong year for the PS3 was held back by sagging PSP and PS2 sales, which both took losses. PS2 software, especially, saw a huge drop, from 83.5 million units down to a mere 35.7 million units (might explain PS2\'s NPD de-listing?). Looks like that ten-year plan for the PS3 may not have been too far off after all, eh?
Dylan Jobe is to show his new game to Sony tomorrow, just in time for E3.
The president of Lightbox Interactive said via Twitter:
“Off to SONY tomorrow for our latest milestone review and playtest. Really happy with the progress this month.
“Looking forward to all the feedback we’re gonna get from the playtest. Interestingly, we really only care about the negative feedback, the stuff we still have to improve on, or fix, or oversights that require new development.”
It is rumoured that Jobes studio is working on Starhawk, though other than the name being trademarked there has been no other news surrounding this.
Looks like it is set to be a pretty amazing E3 this year.
The Sly Cooper Collection will be revealed tomorrow as part of the Sony press conference. A blurry image on 1UP, taken at the as-yet-unopened PlayStation booth, not only announces the title but also touts 3D support as one of its key features. An independent source confirmed to Joystiq that Sly Cooper Collection is very much a real thing, and that other PS2 HD remixes are likely to be seen during the show.
It started with Kratos, and now it seems another beloved Sony icon is getting his own upgraded anthology. A slightly blurry photo (above) from our Sights of E3 collection shows "The Sly Collection" being advertised, and it\'s hard not to notice the "3D" label in the right-hand corner. Sly Cooper is a Sucker Punch creation, and right now they\'re hard at work on Infamous 2 -- but fans wishing for more thieving raccoon action can at least check out the compiled games, transferred into HD.
This won\'t be the series\' first trip with 3D, however. Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves included red/blue 3D glasses in the manual, but Sony\'s recent 3D push means this new version will include the more advanced 3D that requires the PlayStation 3\'s latest update
In April, Kojima Productions head and Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima teased through his Japanese-language Twitter feed that his "next project will challenge a certain type of taboo." Unfortunately, Kojima has been less than forthcoming with more details about this mysterious work.
It\'s hard to say where things could go after MGS4.
This week, though, Kojima sat down with Hirokazu Hamamura, CEO of Famitsu publisher Enterbrain, and offered a host of cryptic comments concerning one, or more, of the designer\'s upcoming projects. As relayed by Andria Sang, Kojima began by talking up his "next project," saying that details have been largely firmed up, though "recently, it has wavered a bit."
Kojima told Hamamura that after returning from the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June, he experienced a change of heart. "I\'m not sure myself, but I began to want to do something different from what I\'d wanted to do originally," he said.
Delving deeper into the specific nature of this project, Kojima said that the game will either be entirely new or Metal Gear Solid 5. "For the next game I make, it\'s either MGS5 or an original game. I only have these two choices," he said. His indecision notwithstanding, Kojima noted that the game\'s engine is already up and running, and that he has allocated his key personnel to the project.
It seems clear that the game will not be a new installment in the Zone of the Enders franchise, a speculated frontrunner following interest expressed by Kojima in October. "Regarding [Zone of the Enders] and so-forth, sorry--those will be pushed a bit into the future. I\'m 47 this year, and I don\'t know when something might happen."
As for when the game would release and on which platforms, Kojima said, "It can\'t take three years," calling out the accelerated pace of game development in the West. He went on to say that the game is being created for unspecified consoles.
Quantic Dream boss David Cage has told Examiner that his studio is currently working on two new projects.
He didn’t, however, drop any hints to the identity of these titles.
“We currently work on two very different projects,” admitted Cage.
“Often, after a long and challenging project like Heavy Rain, it is difficult for the team to get excited again about a new idea. This is absolutely not the case at the moment at Quantic and all the team seems enthusiastic about the possibility of other projects. The team and the company continue to grow in experience, confidence and talent.”
He went on: “After Heavy Rain, we have some credibility in experimenting with new IPs and new concepts. We are not going to play it safe from now, we are going to use this credibility to continue to take risks, give ourselves exciting challenges and try to invent new ways of playing.
“I believe that this is what Quantic Dream’s fans expect us to do. It is also what keeps me passionate about what we are doing.”
It was believed that following the release of Heavy Rain earlier this year, Quantic Dream was working on the Sony-exclusive Horizon, centred on “a curious man raised very insularly meeting a free woman who is hesitant to exercise her freedom,” based in a sci-fi setting.
Cage debunked that last month, saying the studio was instead working on new tech.
The chaps at Just Add Water have confirmed that the company is busy working on a heap of new Oddworld titles spanning multiple consoles.
Based in Yorkshire, the studio didn’t divulge much of any details on the upcoming projects, though did let slip that they would star “all of your favourite Oddworld characters,” with more info expected “over the coming weeks and months.”
Studio head Stewart Gilray commented: “To work with the team at Oddworld has been amazing; being able to tap the minds of Lorne Lanning, Sherry McKenna and others has been fantastic.”
“It’s almost symbiotic in that when something moves forward on any of the projects we just start chatting about new items, or what if we do this. We’re all extremely excited to breathe life into the Oddworld universe and indeed to let it breathe life into us.”
For now, you may as well keep an eye on Abe Mudokon’s Twitter for any fresh announcements, as well as plenty of ramblings from the lovable Rapture Farms worker himself.
Update: Capcom has confirmed to Eurogamer that Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online will be a "downloadable title".
Original story: Yoshinori Ono has announced Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online for Capcom.
He name-dropped the title during a panel at Comic-Con on Saturday, according to 1UP.
There are no other official details.
Therefore, you\'re free to speculate. Does the "Online" part of the title mean this will be a PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade release? Or does the "Online" part mean you\'ll only be able to fight against others on the internet?
We\'ll find out one way or another.
Insomniac Games may have just recently gone multiplatform, but their next game will still be a PlayStation 3 exclusive -- and we\'ll know what it is sometime between now and September. In their latest newsletter, Insomniac revealed the game will be announced sometime before the Penny Arcade Expo takes place in Boston between September 3 and 5, where it will also be demoed for the first time before the public.
"We\'re bringing our new game to a very special Penny Arcade Expo panel on Saturday evening (September 4th), at 6:30pm in the Serpent Theatre," the newsletter reads. "G4TV\'s Adam Sessler will moderate a panel with key creative talent from Insomniac Games as we discuss (and demo!) our upcoming PlayStation 3 project."
In all likelihood, the game to be announced is Resistance 3, which has previously shown up on a "billboard" on a movie set (shown above) as well as on a Sony survey. And if an announcement does indeed come before PAX, look to Gamescom in August as a likely venue.
ICO this, Shadow of the Colossus that, gamers are terribly in love with those games. Now, as PS3 gamers eagerly await The Last Guardian and Xbox 360 owners earn for it, Naughty Dog concept artist Eytan Zana teases everyone with ICO-ish artwork.
The art is for an ICO-inspired project, which he\'s working on with thatgamecompany\'s Matt Nava, who was also art director for Flower and flOw. Zana posted a few "sketches" on his blog E Z | D R A W S, describing the second related post (collage) as "some outskirts, an establishing shot, and some platforming areas."
thatgamecompany is famous for its games Flower, flOw and Cloud. They recently unveiled their latest game that is under works and is titled “The Journey,” which looks to be inspired from Ico set in an online world. At LinkedIn, we discovered Eytan Zana’s profile who has been working as a concept artist for Naughty Dog for the last three months working on the same project. His profile connects us to his blog titled “EZ DRAWS”, where he has put up a display of his current work. In a post that is dated July 13, 2010 we found the following quote, “Part of an ICO inspired project I’m doing with my buddy Matt Nava, will post more thumbnails.”
He has also posted a bunch of his paintings on July 19, which states, “For the Ico project. Wanted to capture some outskirts, an establishing shot, and some platforming areas. Will be finishing three of these.”
Matt Lava, if you guys are not quite aware is, the Art Director of thatgamecompany. So it seems that a few individuals from Naughty Dog are working on this project as well, which also looks to be quite a definitive game when it is out. Uncharted 3 may be coming along but it is nice to see that the company is actually helping out other developers who are working out to develop awesome stuff for the PlayStation 3. More on both titles as information trickles down.
Looking to get your hands on Shinji Mikami and Platinum Games\'s new PS3 and Xbox 360 action title Vanquish? Your chance will come in just a couple of weeks. Sega is planning to release demo for both platforms on September 2.
Producer Atsushi Inaba revealed plans for the demo on the 21st during an interview session with Gamespot Japan that was conducted at the Akihabara leg of a Vanquish retail demo event.
The demo will be titled "Vanquish Official Demo - Velocity Attack" and will allow players to work through a prologue sequence along with a boss fight against Argos. Players will be able to try out casual and normal difficulty settings, along with the game\'s auto aim feature (limited just to casual difficulty).
Those planning on attending the Tokyo Game Show starting on the 16th are in for a special treat. Inaba also said that the show\'s Vanquish demo will be different from the downloadable demo. It will have additional playable areas. He also said to expect a stage that will have an appearance by a surprising character.
Development on Vanquish is already 100% complete, Inaba also revealed to the site. The game is due for release here on October 21.
Sony has just unveiled the game that Afrika should have been. Titled Tokyo Jungle, this new PlayStation 3 title depicts a fight against lions and other wild animals on the streets of Tokyo.
The ones doing the fighting aren\'t humans, though. As the story goes, in the year 20XX man has disappeared from the Earth. Animals fight for survival in a ruined Tokyo setting.
You take control of a jungle creature and fight for survival against other creatures. Animal types include lions, crocodiles, foxes and hippos.
Famitsu refers to the game as "a true hunting game" and lists the genre as "hunting action." That\'s the genre for something like Monster Hunter, but the magazine notes that this time its the wild animals doing the hunting.
Tokyo Jungle will offer both Story and Survival Mode. In the game\'s story mode, you\'ll work through missions centered around the various animals. Eventually, you\'ll discover the truth behind mankind\'s disappearance. In Survival Mode, you select a single animal and attempt to survive as long as possible.
Don\'t laugh too hard at the premise. Tokyo Jungle is the latest title to emerge from Sony\'s PlayStation C.A.M.P amateur development program, which has a reputation for making the bizarre wonderful.
A release is set for Winter. Famitsu\'s information box lists PlayStation Network support, although it\'s unclear at present if this is for multiplayer play.
Ever since the announcement of Mass Effect 2 for the PS3 was made, people have been clamoring over whether or not Mass Effect 3 would make way to the system when the game releases. That question may now have an answer and it looks like it\'ll be made official in just a few short weeks.
Thanks to a reliable tip, it seems that BioWare is poised to reveal information about Mass Effect 3 shortly. As with every gaming-related event, some major news is always leaked from behind closed doors, and this year\'s PAX was no different. Planning an announcement in October, BioWare will officially announce Mass Effect 3 and will also let it be known that the game is coming to the PS3. This should be classified as a rumor and taken as a rumor.
Whether this holds true or not will be known in the near future. With the next entry hitting the PS3 in early 2011, will you buy Mass Effect 3 on the PS3 or will you continue to follow the series on the Xbox 360 and get the complete experience over all three entries?
Demon\'s Souls creator From Software is working on a "dark fantasy" game for the PlayStation 3 called Project Dark.
The game was announced during Sony\'s stage show at the Tokyo Game Show by From\'s Hidetaka Miyazaki.
The game is said to appeal to fans of Demon\'s Souls and, according to our on-the-scene reporter, a first-look trailer shows "lots of undead monsters in helmets and booming music."
The game will be exclusive to PlayStation 3, and will be available in 2011.
Today during a stage show, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima briefly mentioned MGS5. "Maybe, I\'ll do 5," said the game designer.
Kojima then joked that he won\'t have to quit working at Konami. Kojima was being glib, and this isn\'t officially confirmation of a new Metal Gear Solid (or that certainly not that he is leaving Konami) by any means. He was just being lighthearted.
This isn\'t the first we\'ve heard of MGS5. Moreover, it has previously been revealed that Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker was intended to be MGS5. Also, this isn\'t the first time he\'s mentioned MGS5 — he was thinking about it in May 2008.
Time after time it seems like Kojima has been vocal about moving on. While finishing up Metal Gear Solid 4, Kojima repeatedly said he was moving on from the series and hoped that younger members of his staff could take the reigns.
At last year\'s TGS, Kojima told Kotaku, "If you write that \'Kojima-san doesn\'t have to make Metal Gear any more\' every day on Kotaku, and write to the CEO of Konami and tell him that, then it might be easier for me to make non-Metal Gear games."
We have been remiss. Apologies. Kojima-san doesn\'t have to make Metal Gear anymore. He can make Snatcher or Zone of the Enders or anything else.
As we previously pointed out, it\'s not like the Metal Gear games Kojima is making are bad or anything. On the contrary. However, surely, the man has other stories he\'d like to tell, other worlds he\'d like to explore.
"I know fans are going to be disappointed with the new release date, but rest assured that this is a business decision between partners, and not a quality issue. Gears 3 was on track to be the most polished Gears of War game ever when it released in April, and this additional time allows us to polish it that much more before it hits shelves next fall.
Next week we have a major multiplayer press visit at Epic HQ, and I\'m really looking forward to the fans getting to see and hear about Gears 3 Versus multiplayer for the first time. Lots more exciting news to come."
ORIGINAL STORY: Xbox 360 exclusive Gears of War 3 has been delayed from 8th April 2011 to "Fall 2011".
According to a statement sent by Microsoft, Epic Games\' third-person shooter was moved "to make it the marquee title for the holiday season".
"Gears of War 3 promises to be the biggest entertainment launch of 2011," the Microsoft statement reads.
Zenimax just confirmed it’s bought Tango Gameworks and, with it, Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami.
“It’s refreshing to find a publisher who understands, trusts, and supports the development of blockbuster games and works to make it a collaborative effort,” said Mikami.
“The library of AAA franchise titles ZeniMax owns speaks for itself. We are very excited to be joining ZeniMax and working with a company that is dedicated to creating the best games ever made.”
The studio, based in Tokyo, will stay under Mikami’s direction.
“Shinji Mikami has earned a stellar reputation as one of the industry’s finest game developers,” said Zenimax chief Robert Altman.
“He has repeatedly created hit titles that have earned praise from fans and critics around the world. We share his vision for innovative, genre-defining games and look forward to working with Shinji and his team at Tango.”
Following in the trail blazed by Dead Rising 2, the next Resident Evil game may come from the Great White North. SOCOM developer Slant Six Games could be the latest studio tapped by Capcom to create its games.
A document forwarded to Kotaku indicates that a new, team-based Resident Evil game is currently in development at Slant Six. The developer is responsible for SOCOM:U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation for the PlayStation 3 as well as two iterations for the PSP, Tactical Strike and Fireteam Bravo 3. Named (or codenamed) in the document as Resident Evil: Raccoon City, Slant Six looks to be staffing up to bring even more zombie game development to Vancouver.
When contacted for comment, publisher reps said "Capcom does not respond to rumors and/or speculation."
Slant Six Games writes on its official web site that it is currently in development on "an amazing new project" that is unannounced. That project is being developed in conjunction with a "new publishing partner on a world class franchise." Several Slant Six current and former employees list an unannounced "multiplayer action game" for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on their LinkedIn profiles.
In March of this year, Slant Six solicited work for a "Japanese translator/interpreter."
Capcom has looked outside of Japan for help on some of its better known franchises, including GRIN (Bionic Commando), Ninja Theory (Devil May Cry) and Blue Castle Games (Dead Rising 2), another Vancouver based studio that had its zombie project leaked well in advance.
3 CommentsEA has announced three new titles that it plans to release through the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Arcade and on PC.
The first game, Warp, is developed by indie studio Trapdoor and is a stealth-action game that uses a top-down perspective.
It features "a sci-fi world with a distinctive art style, addicting levels, hazardous traps and challenging puzzles," says EA and is scheduled for release in 2011.
The second game, The Fancy Pants Adventures, is based on a well-known browser-based sidescroller but will have a new game world, story, and gameplay modes.
Gatling Gears is a dual-stick shooter considered to be the spiritual successor to strategy game Greed Corp. It will feature "collapsing land, walker units and warring factions," says EA.
Back in November, a listing briefly showed up on GameStop for something called the "Dreamcast Collection," raising speculation that a disc-based compellation of classic Dreamcast games would soon be hitting retail shelves. And now it\'s official: In the latest issue of Game Informer, Sega\'s executive vice president of sales and marketing Alan Pritchard confirms the collection is coming. Unfortunately, he doesn\'t say what games will be collected.
"The Dreamcast fans are very devoted. You see on eBay people are still buying the games and system," Pritchard began. "We actually have a Dreamcast collection coming out soon. We are looking to bring some of the old Dreamcast games to market digitally and packaged. The titles are still to be announced. The Ultimate Genesis Collection did huge numbers on PS3 and 360, so it\'s an important part of our business. We\'ve already been releasing some Dreamcast games digitally; Crazy Taxi [for one]."
Indeed, along with Crazy Taxi, Sega has also already rereleased Sonic Adventure, and they plan on rereleasing Space Channel 5 Part 2 and Sega Bass Fishing early next year. Will all four games make up this Dreamcast Collection for a retail release, or can we hope to see yet more Dreamcast titles rereleased? Looks like we\'ll find out whenever Sega is ready to say.
The GameStop listing pegged the Dreamcast Collection\'s release for February 15, but as you can see, Pritchard didn\'t confirm that part, either.
Ubisoft has revealled details on next year\'s releases, with the Splinter Cell Trilogy HD collection on PS3 confirmed for 2011.
Following the recent release of the Prince Of Persia trilogy, Ubisoft has confirmed that the Splinter Cell Trilogy is happening, but no mention of an Xbox 360 release, despite the origins of the series.
It seems likely the trilogy will contain the original Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory. We\'ve contacted Ubisoft regarding the trilogy and will update here with more information when we get it.
“Ubisoft has confirmed that the Spli Cell Trilogy is happening, but no mention of an Xbox 360 release”
Meanwhile, Child Of Eden is confirmed for a Q1 release in 2011, a Kinect and Move title that we\'re pretty excited for.

Orb Networks today at CES unveiled software that essentially turns a PlayStation 3 into an Internet TV portal. The software enables any connected Blu-ray player, including PS3s, to access movies and TV via services like Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon Video on Demand.
Joe Costello, CEO of Orb Networks, describes the software as a less expensive solution than other solutions, like Google TV. “The combined cost of a Blu-ray player and Orb BR software is less expensive than most of the other Internet TV solutions, like Boxee and Google TV, while providing more capabilities. With more than eight million connected Blu-ray players and 40 million PS3 players already in homes, the market opportunity for Orb BR is huge.”
The software comes in at a reasonable $19.99 USD price tag, and has helpful features like the ability to control the service through a smartphone app or on any computer. You’ll have to download the free Orb Caster software, and/or the Orb controller app for smartphones to operate the service. Then, insert the provided disc in to your Blu-ray player or PS3, and you’ll be ready.
Orb BR supports 720p and 1080p. The Orb controller app features an easy-to-use global index of TV shows. Simply type in the name of the show you want and let Orb find it for you—you won’t need to specify where to look, it could find it in Hulu, ABC, or CBS, for instance.
The software is out late February. We’ll give you a review closer to launch.

EA\'s CEO, John Riccitiello, has stated that he believes sales in the Dead Space series will get a massive boost with the arrival of Dead Space 3. Yes, he said Dead Space 3. Here, let me write that again with quote marks: "Dead Space 3."
John Riccitiello was speaking at the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference, where he said that he doesn\'t think of the Dead Space series as part of the list of "strong, growing franchises" yet because he believes it\'s only once Dead Space 3 comes out that the horror series will really begin to receive a boost in sales.
"Right now we\'ve got strong, growing franchises including Madden, FIFA... Need for Speed, Medal of Honor and Battlefield - I include them as one because we\'re unlikely to ship them in any one year at the same time," Riccitiello began.
"There\'s also Mass Effect... Dragon Age... and the one that\'s sort of not proven that\'s coming later in our fiscal year, Star Wars: The Old Republic. That excludes Dead Space because I think it will probably take Dead Space 3 before we get into that five million unit cadence versus say three, four."
Again, he said Dead Space 3!
A couple of weeks before Resident Evil 5 was showed off at E3 a few years back reports had emerged that the Capcom-developed game may have become a timed exclusive on the Xbox 360, after Microsoft reportedly offered them a lucrative deal. Well, now, it seems that Sony are willing to do the same, but this time for the game’s yet-to-be-announced successor Resident Evil 6 for the PlayStation 3.
From what I have been told Sony have already reportedly offered Capcom a fee which they are believed to be considering; the deal, if approved by the developer, will see Resident Evil 6 be a PlayStation 3 exclusive for at least half-a-year to a year; the contract is still reportedly under approval by Capcom so the length of the deal has yet to be confirmed.
If the deal is struck by both parties then an E3 reveal is highly likely, and will probably hold the same shock when it was announced Final Fantasy XIII would be going mult-platform. For the time being, this is just a rumor so take it with a pinch of salt but with Microsoft getting all the recent timed exclusivity deals (such as all Call of Duty: Black Ops DLC will arrive on the Xbox 360 first) Sony are looking to bounce back with a bang.
Capcom Global Head of Production Keiji Inafune had last year teased Resident Evil 6 and in doing so hinted at an imminent announcement.
Given the great success that supposed for us Resident Evil 5, we want that Resident Evil 6 leaves as rapidly as possible to the market. In fact, you will shortly have the news of Capcom about this…
Kotaku writes : "Speaking at a talk during the Game Developer Conference today, designer Yu Suzuki said that he thinks Sega is going to let him make Shenmue III. The audience broke into shouts and applause, and then Suzuki abruptly changed topics."

Sony and Quantic Dream have been part of a cosy relationship as of late with Heavy Rain releasing exclusively on PS3. David Cage, studio head at Quantic Dream has stated that Sony and Quantic Dream are currently in a publishing deal for it\'s forthcoming titles.
Horizon, a game currently rumored to be in production exclusively for PS3 may be revealed by Cage at E3 2011. Horizon is one of two titles which may make an appearance at Sony\'s press conference. Featuring a sci-fi story about a couple, this could surely make a splash at the conference.
Quantic Dream has been designated in many news articles as a potential target for acquisition. It possesses a state of the art motion capture studio and falls under Sony\'s ethos of providing a back catalogue of titles for everyone. The possibility of David Cage presenting a new title at E3 2011 and continuing an exclusivity deal with Sony only points further to the thought that Quantic Dream may be acquired soon in the vein of how Media Molecule was purchased.

The PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions of Ruin, Idol Minds and SCE San Diego Studios’ E3-announced dungeon crawler, will be come packaged together, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida revealed.
Speaking to Eurogamer, Yoshida confirmed the game’s bundle release.
“One of the games we’re making, called Ruin, we are developing both the Vita version and the PS3 version of that title,” said Yoshida to the site. “Both games will be packaged together. You can play the game at home on PS3, save your data on our PSN server on the cloud, and you can continue playing the game on PS Vita by downloading the save from the PSN. And you can do vice versa. It’s a continuous experience, playing the same game on PS Vita and PS3.”
Yoshida also confirmed other developers’ interests in the same concept.
“There is lots of interest from publishers and developers to do that. At Konami, Kojima-san announced the concept of Transfarring. The initial product will be between PSP and PS3, but he is also talking about between PS3 and Vita. Actually, it’s easier to create the experience on PS Vita and PS3 because the performance is much similar, and the amount of RAM is pretty similar.”
PlayStation Vita will debut in Japan by the end of the year. A western launch is planned for early 2012.
The August 2011 edition of the Official Playstation Magazine Italy has hinted at the existence of the long-awaited Syphon Filter 4, with the title reportedly gearing up for a release in Winter 2012.
Eager fans of the stealthy third-person shooting franchise have been anxiously clambering for scraps of information regarding a new iteration following a supposed leak on the official US Playstation website – in which details of the sequel and a rough logo were accidently posted and quickly taken down.

The respected publication revealed that the title will release exclusively for PS3 in Q4 2012, corresponding with a bout of previous rumors which surfaced in June, 2011. Check out the translated rumor below.
