According to news, Obama is down to like 52 percent approval. I overheard a few coworkers slamming him today and it got me curious about this phenomenon.
I\'ve seen a man who\'s going all out, all over the place to try to make a difference at a time when Iraq is cooling down and the economy is showing glimmers of hope toward recovering. So, I\'m psyched.
I\'m glad we\'ve got conservatives slowing the train down on the health care move, but overall I see him taking risks and trying things and some of it seems to be helping.
Am I missing something? Is it the health care bill? Republicans getting a voice again? What\'s swaying public opinion, ya think?

Thats the thing, you dont do anything or little, and ppl will complain.
You try too hard and ppl will complain.
He doesnt even have a year in yet.
I challenge all that oppose him to come up with a better solution. No one has done that yet, but wanna cry, complain and shake fists.
I dont like everything he is doing, but at least he is in fact doing and trying to do.

I guess with health care, some people must figure it\'s not broken.
I hate the arguement about it being socialist to keep people healthy. Seriously, the idea of health care for all Americans is a no-brainer. The opponents should instead stick to the truth of the matter, which is that no one wants to pay for it.
-
I think a lot of the people who are opposed to reforming our health care system have never used the current system in a substantial way.
As soon as they get sick and try to use it, they may discover that the life saving surgury they need is actually defined by their HMO as an "experimental procedure" and thus not covered. They could be out thousands of dollars in deductable payments, or financially broken by the absurdly high cost of prescription drugs.
At that point many of these opponents would probably change their minds. But then, no one gives a shit about paying for a better system, until they personally need it, right?

Thats usually how it goes.

you actually think that under obama\'s plan getting that life saving surgery will be easier?
i get top of the line health insurance for free, it\'s a perk i got to keep me from leaving to another employer. Under the plan the way it was initially structured that would go away and i would be forced to pay. I have a problem with that.
-
I\'m sure that was one of many proposals. But of course that\'s not how it works under the currently proposed plan.

I think people just need to be patient. Americans like results to be here and now and he cannot possibly fix these things over night...did people forget how many banks were folding and how the housing market was crashing late last year into early 09?...he had to do something to stop the bleeding.
As far as his healthplan goes....i don\'t see why folks are hearing only what they want to hear...he\'s repeatedly stated that the public option is there only to keep costs down and if you like your doctor, you won\'t have to change anything...why do people think that the gov\'t is going to to take over their healthcare? I too don\'t agree with everything he\'s proposed, but i think we deserve to give him a chance.
People say that we should have universal healthcare like other countries, but what people fail to understand is that those other countries pay an absurd amount in taxes for that coverage....our european operators that work opposite of us at Coke told us that while when they get laid off their gov\'t still pay their salaries and their healthcare, but that they pay incredibly high taxes to maintain that care.
This is where i think Obama is going to have a problem. Raising taxes to the point to where these foreign countries tax their folks is not gonna fly here. He\'s trying to raise money by taxing the rich and other establishments, but i think at some point he\'s going to have to tax the middleclass for his healthcare plan and maybe to even reduce the deficit some....that\'s the reality..our economy is s**t right now and it\'s going to take a little help from everybody if it\'s going to come back, but like Eik stated....nobody wants to pay for it.
-
maybe its because he\'s doing a shitty job... not unlike our previous president...
those of you who still believe we\'re going to see "change" are in for a rude awakening
-
I\'d rather not have the kind of change you\'re looking for.
-
yeah cause fixing the financial crisis is not something we want
nah, lets keep printing money and giving bail outs instead, and while we\'re at it, lets continue to increase government spending!
-
Or how about this change?

People seem to forget how fast the u.s. economy was dropping off like flies late year...so i guess we should\'ve done nothing right?...just let everything collapse....have you ever thought about how worse THINGS could\'ve been if nothing was done...banks were folding,...people were losing their jobs at an incredible rate and as a result foreclosures were thru the roof.
I even supported the package that bush initially started...people say that we\'re spending money, but they would be looking like complete idiots if money wasn\'t thrown into the financial sectors to help stabilize the economy....yes whenever you deal with money some of it will go to wasteful projects(it really can\'t be avoided) buti do feel the majority of these stimulus packages did the job they were intended to do.
Be happy that you still have your job or home, because indirectly, the stimulus package could have had something to do with it.

Nope, all the stimulus did was contribute to the further inflation of our economy, therefore making me poorer.
Bailouts are never a good thing. Let companies fail, bailing them out rewards bad company policies. Not to sound cold, people lose their jobs every day, why were these jobs more important than the thousands of others that were lost?
You keep saying things could be worse... could be? How do you know, we never went down that path. Are you an economist? No. In fact most economist agree that the WORST thing that you can do is print more money... but our President was too impatient to let things work themselves out so he intervened to engineer a short term fix. It just angers me so much.
-
As I recall, Paul Krugman, who won a freaking Nobel price for Economics, said the stimulus package was HALF as large as it should have been.
But hey, I guess you know more about economics than he does, so forget I mentioned it.

I\'m sorry but letting firms like AIG and fannie mae fail,..would\'ve been an astronomical catastrophy....they had sooo many families mortgages tied up in their mess that they would\'ve brought down the whole financial sector. Yet you still would\'ve just let these companies fold with them tied to millions of families mortgages? I don\'t have to be an economist to know that would have been a major mistake to not have done anything. It only takes basic common sense.
Nobody knows what would\'ve happened if we actually have not done anything, but the risk was too big to take. Not to mention other world markets was watching what we were doing as well and i\'m sure china was probably watching with their twirly mustache attitude hoping for our collapse.

But you\'re ok with the hundreds (perhaps even thousands) of other companies that failed. Guess your job is only important if you work for a big company. That\'s the message I\'m getting from you.
It was incredibly selective.
Also, I\'d like some documentation on how printing more money is a good thing.

I\'m not ok with any company folding especially small businesses, but small businesses also need these huge financial establishments to make payroll, to purchase equipment etc....obviously everybody can\'t be bailed out, but i do believe that for the reasons i mention here and above that Obama and to a lesser extent Bush, did the right thing to keep our economy afloat and stabilize it a bit.
If those big establishments weren\'t saved, it would\'ve created a huge vacuum(spel) that would\'ve engulfed alot more americans than the one\'s we have already seen reeling from this recession.
