Title: I just bought the slim ps3 last night
Post by: Paul2 on September 02, 2009, 09:03:29 PM
So last night, i went and bought a ps3 slim.  In comparison, the slim ps3 is heavier and bit bigger overall than my original ps2.  Its also a lot quieter than I expected.  It\'s much quieter than the original ps2 and the ps2 slim - which i bought over 2 months ago.

I still doesn\'t know how to charge the dual shock 3/six axis controller.  Do I just leave the console power on and connect the usb cable?

One more thing is i still couldn\'t connect online wirelessly with the ps3.  I put in the SSID and even try the WEP Key.  The rest I just put automatic because i don\'t know what to do with it like I.P. address, etc.  But the I.P. address looks unfamiliar than the I.P. address I am using for the computer to get online.

I\'m pretty sure you have to have the console on and have your remotes plugged in the USB port, I usually just watched a movie or turned and left it on for awhile until they were charged.  I do however recommend the movie way.

I\'m considering trading my PS3 in for a slim, they have a deal going on here where you can trade in for 50% off the price, which means it will only cost me £125.

my PS3 is a 60GB refurb that is out of warranty, so I\'m seeing it as a good trade. just waiting for them to get back to me about whether they will accept refurbs or not.

Just do auto set-up. Although you may have to manually enter the DNS which is 4222 and 4221 I think

okay, thank you guys for your help.  i realized late last night that my ps3\'s controller is already fully charged.  probably they pre-charged it for the initial use.  Or maybe i charged it to full because i always had it connected to the ps3 with the usb cable earlier.

I just read the instructions manual for a bit late last night to find out that i can push and hold the ps button for 1 second and it will shows me the system and controller screen.  I learned what those red lights from 1 - 4 means from reading the manual.

I still couldn\'t connect online wirelessly with the ps3 and i put most on auto.

Lukcy, i might try your suggested DNS number later.  What is DNS btw?

btw, the ps3 laser reading or error correction quality for CD games is mediocre as i have some psone games that are quite scratch and the ps3 couldn\'t read the CG video without stuttering or freezing while the ps2 slim could read it with little stuttering but it could read through it.  So i give that average reading quality for ps2 slim.  One last thing i would like to add is the ps3 get hot really fast like 15 minutes turning it on and the machine is already really hot on the bottom.

I thought the PS3 slim was not backward compatible.
Is it supposed to be able to play PS1 games, but not PS2?

nice time to buy one

Im partly tempted to get an 360 elite after these price cuts, since I\'m kind of claustrophobic with my 12 gigs or whatever on my normal 360 (i\'ve always kept it around 4 open gigs..but that can fill up fast with demos). plus the white xbox doesnt go with all my other black components. But theres too many games to buy to spend the money on it

As for the Wireless setup, I had to update my router firmware in order to get the PS3 to connect properly. This was not much problem, followed the 5 step guide from the linksys web pages.

I tried both numbers but it didn\'t work either for the primary or the secondary DNS.  It said failed and then I switch the number around for primary and secondary and it still didn\'t work on the internet testing.

I looked up my IP address from the firewall and i enter the number and during the internet testing, it successfully recognize the I.P. address but it said there was an error on the DNS.  So, I am not sure what numbers to enter for the router address and the DNS address either.

Is there a website that show my internet I.P. addresses?

My internet modem also has the router built in for both wired and wireless internet connection.  So I don\'t know if my internet modem & router combo needs firmware update.

So far i haven\'t gotten any games ps3 games yet for my ps3.  I still have some ps2 games that i am still in the very beginning of the game like devil may cry, kingdom hearts, star ocean:till the end of time, and the recent Final Fantasy XII that i just played recently.  I guess i lost interest in video games after high school that i rarely play them or bother to past the games that I go back to play the old games that i played when i was kid to high school years.

But the MGS4 sounds like a very good deal.  I might think about it and buy it in the future.  I am thinking about purchasing blu ray movies first though.  I might collect some movies in blu ray that i didn\'t have on my dvd collections yet.
