Title: Looking for a food sales representative in the States
Post by: Seed_Of_Evil on December 06, 2009, 10:35:03 AM
As many of you know, I live in Southern Spain, cradle and origin of the best olive oil in the world. My family has been growing olive trees and oil for centuries, but now, the whole community is suffering the cruel impact of the worldwide crisis.

Our green gold can only be sold for some cents/kg and the intermediaries gain all the money in the transactions and sales as they put it in the market. One litre of extra virgin oil is paid here at about 90cents and then you can buy it in the shop for about €3,50 or €4 (of course, mixed with lower quality oils). The farmers cannot bear the situation any more: the money they need to grow the olives and extract the oil is not gained.

Our village association of farmers is trying to sell the oil of this campaign directly to shops and big chains of stores to avoid intermediaries and gain the money they need to survive. The deal is the following: they sell the oil at higher prices but lower than intermediaries offer to the stores, so that both ends benefit.

Besides, the extra virgin olive oil of this year is supreme, that is, SUPER EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL of 0% acidity (pure gold, pure gourmet for kings and queens) due to climate conditions of past months. The quality is no way even nearer to what you can find in the stores.

It is because of this that I (representing my father and my village and taking advance of my little English mastering) am looking for a food sales representative or chain store manager who may be interested in the product. I know the States is a big country with a great food market and people may want to buy quality product and eat healthy.

Do you know any person to whom I could speak? I think it\'s a great opportunity to get extra virgin oil at very low prices. It\'s not a matter of gaining money, it\'s a matter of surviving.

Thx dudes ;)

Nice... don\'t know if I can help with a distributor, but my wife & I are olive oil freaks. She just brought back about a dozen bottles from California. we eat it with bread.

I have not forgotten your coins, I\'m putting a pile together now, I just want to be able to send some good stuff...

maybe I can talk to someone at the local food co-op, they usually carry mostly locally grown veggies and health food. I may know someone after all.

Yes, we\'re building an online shop with national shipments... if you mean international direct selling... erm.. I think it\'s still a bit complex...

How is international more complex? I would have thought you just have to put it in the box and slap on a sticker for another country.

International food shipments are complex and very restricted due to international market laws and security protocols.

:(

My mom cooks with olive oil. I thought it would have been cool to get some authentic spanish oil as a gift to her for the next holiday (probably mothers day).

Probably just a couple bottles. Not sure what my mom would do with a  few cases of olive oil. I probably wouldn\'t order for a while though so if you wanted to cross that bridge when we came to it, we can do that.

The store is more or less online by now, but there\'s still mistakes and lack of products. And problems with respect the language modules, according to the admin. You can visit it clicking here (http://www.scajesusdelcamino.com/tienda/index.php?main_page=index&language=en).

I asked about this after Titan\'s question. The problem is the following: moving food between different markets (Europe <-> USA) is complex because it is regulated by very strict laws (economic, security, etc.). When you sell a big amount of a product there are little problems because you contact the country\'s government and they offer a dealer to make the business. (this is not necessary inside the same region: Europe, America...)

The real problem arises when someone is buying a small quantity of the product, 5 kgs, for instance. You can\'t hire a dealer, and you must do it in an \'extra-official\' way... that is, you pick two bottles, put in a packet and send it via UPS to whenever you want. Risks? If authorities identify the packet as \'food\', they may destroy it, send it back or, if they have a bad day, be fined.

Anyway, if you wish, we can try and send it. Gmanjoe, how much would you want to buy to ask about shipping costs? The fu*king thing about this is that shipping to the States may cost way a lot more than the oil itself, which is a real pity considering the people that may be interested (that\'s why we were trying to find a distributor to put the product in the american market).

Anyone interested in the bussiness and wanting to gain money? :D

;)

I\'ll look into what it takes to be a distributor. Shouldn\'t be rocket science. Just a lot of red tape, I bet. Lot of shipping in and out....thing is...I don\'t want my home to be the business address.
