Title: We lost Stanley today
Post by: videoholic on January 14, 2010, 09:39:23 AM
Stanley has been having health issues for the past couple months, but last night was just too much for him.  We took him to the vet this morning and they\'ve held him there for observation.  He started doing better, but then he stopped breathing.  Stanley was a very sweet dog.  I just can\'t believe he won\'t be here any more.  And now I get to tell Logan in a couple hours when I pick him up from school.

I have a very small family so I haven\'t had to deal with any real death before.  Lona and I bought him right after we got married 12 years ago.  I just can\'t believe I will never see him again.

that sucks man. sorry to hear about that. 12 years is a good length but still know how you feel

My dog is getting up there, plus the diabetes will catch up to him eventually. I get down just thinking about him passing away. just want to make time freeze

Sorry to hear Vid.  Was he the only dog in the house?  I\'m sure he and Logan were close.  Hope the little tyke handles it well

I\'ve dealt with alot of death, and for some reason the only time it has ever effected me really badly, was my dog.  So I know how much it can suck.  Sorry to hear about it dude

My condolences, it\'s weird how losing a pet can effect you. I lost both my dogs a few years back, I still miss them.

Wasn\'t he the masturbating dog?

Good memory.  Yeah...  He use to lay on his back and with his two front paws he would grab his little unit and go to town.  It was hilarious, but disgusting.

This has been pretty tough.  I mean the way it happened couldn\'t have been any better for us to have to go through, but it\'s just so tough.  He looked so fine yesterday.  Then last night he just couldn\'t breath.  When I brought him to the vet I didn\'t think he was going to go on his own today.  I felt if anything we\'d have a decision to make.  But he went out on his own.  Little guy had 12 great years and one night of pain.

It\'s tough man, and even when the little guys are in pain, they\'re still always happy to see you.

I remember when Jökull (one of my two dogs) was at his sickest, he could barely move, but when he saw me his tail started wagging and he tried to get up.

I guess thats the trade off with pets. They bring so much god damn happiness to you, but you know you\'ll have to say goodbye someday.

I\'ll raise one for Stanley tonight.

Thank you guys.  It\'s way harder than I thought.  About every 15 minutes or so it hits me that he won\'t be there when I get home.  Then I\'ll go on my way an then again, it hits me...  I mean he was running around the yard tuesday.  Lona went and saw him after he passed.  I just couldn\'t do it.  And the fact that we didn\'t euthanize him.  He died on his own.  I just can\'t grasp it.  He\'s suppose to sit with me while I edit and run out the door every time I open it.  Yesterday we were playing out side with the boys and didn\'t even realize we had left the door open the whole time.

On a lighter note, we\'ve been looking at havanese puppies.  Have any of you had any experience with them?  Everything I\'ve read has been very good about them.  Lona is having a very tough time with this and I think it will definitely help things.  We were wanting to get a new puppy for a playmate for Stanley before he got sick.  I just don\'t think I can get another yorkie.  He was an amazing dog and I\'d hate to get a dog that I\'d just compare to Stan.

Maybe it\'s just me, but I wouldn\'t want another dog right away. I\'d want it to settle in a little first, then start looking at puppies.

It does suck when you loose a pet.  You don\'t have to tell me Vid, death is hard to deal with whether it\'s a person or animal.  Sorry to hear that man.

I got a Dachshund puppy about 8 months ago. He\'s hyper as shit but they calm down after a few years and he\'s a really great dog, especially with kids. With some training they are fantastic.

I dunno if you have the type of dog you want to get set in stone, but if not do a little research on Wiener Dogs. They are awesome.

I love long haired weiner dogs, but wife is alergic so can\'t get a dog that sheds.

I love this little guy.

Problem is his parents are in a westminister line and he\'s expensive as shit.  He\'s a havanese.  Everything I\'ve read seems like the perfect dog for us.

Ah, yeah, no wiener for you then.

That guy looks pretty cute, though. I approve.

Also, dogs are fucking expensive.

Well Lona made a deal with the owner of the puppy so I guess it\'s coming to his new home tomorrow.

cute lil dude... reminds me of chewie.
Speaking of him, I shelled out $1200 for that little fucker, not including neutering, vet crap and grooming, and I gave him away six months later.. Little bastard wrecked everything he could, and was a seperation anxiety-ridden little shit-eater. Literally. REEEEaly gross.

I wish I only paid 1200...  I asked Lona if we should send a check to Haiti and go get a dog from the pound.  Fuck that.....

Damn, I\'m sorry to hear about your loss. I understand how hard it would be to go through any death.. I just hope I never have to experience it in my little family I\'ve built.

Sorry to hear about your dog bud. Its tough when a family member dies, even though it is an animal. My cat is getting old and probably will die soon. I\'m getting myself mentally prepared so I understand how tough it can be.

It\'s a lot harder than I ever expected.  To walk in the door and not have him run over to you.  To not have them sit up on the couch at 4:45 every day or go to bed at 11pm every night.  It stinks.

But this little guy is freaking awesome.

Congrats on the new addition to tha family....i don\'t have time for pets and like somebody else mentioned, they\'re f**king expensive pre-madonna\'s....i\'ll pass. The only animals i want are the kind that i see on my plate....and send that check to Haiti.

It\'s no where near the same dog.  although I do see Stanley in this new pup\'s eyes and nose features.  I have to go with a dog that can fit through a small dog door and has to be non allergenic.  This little guy rocks.  He has made it a lot easier.  Sitting here editing without Stan kicking back next to me would be brutal.
