"- Will show the Helghast have humanity left in them.

- Will have the feeling that "of being in a place far away from home, outnumbered by people who want to kill you."

- Will be like Inglorious Basterds.

- All of the characters in the screenshots are flying in.. jetpacks?!

- Will include arctic levels.

- One mission in the game involves rescuing ISA Captain Narville.

- Game is playable in 3D!

- Have to wear 3D glasses, apparently the 3D effects are "crazy."

- Combat is "unchanged from predecessor."

- Or is it? Hand to hand combat involves you "Unloading a string of different (and often brutal) attacks on stunned enemies."

- The scale is supposed to be "bigger this time."

- The Jetpacks are "surprisingly lightweight and agile, Killzone 3\'s jetpack is easier to maneuver compared to the sluggish incarnations of the gadget found in other games."

- New weapon called the Wasp, basically shoots a "flurry of rockets" at an enemy.

- Will show off the Helghast culture.

- There is actually a Helghast language, which will be explored in the game."

Quote

- Will have "diverse locales."

- Have to sit in the center of the 3D tv for the 3D effects to work.

- 3D in this game is called a "Game Changer."

- Going to have "Intense Action"

- Jetpacks double as a weapon, which basically means a machine gun mounted right on top of it.

- If you shoot Helghast with jetpacks, they\'ll "explode like roman candles"

- To control the jetpack, you "have to activate bursts of speed in midair, propelling yourself across further distances."

- The Jetpack resembles something you\'d do in platformers such as Super Mario Bros. Or Uncharted

- In one mission, you have to use the jetpack by "launching yourself from glacier to glacier"

Killzone 3 – Environment completely destructible

Quote

Killzone 2 which just had destructible environments, the environments in Killzone 3 “fully destructible ‘are.
Killzone 3 is the fourth part in the Killzone series of Dutch developer Guerrilla Games, which earlier this year confirmed by us , and earlier this week officially confirmed by Sony.

One of the spearheads of Killzone 2, which received much praise for the graphic art piece that the game had been fully destructible environments. Eventually, the destructible environments limited to a few areas in Killzone 2, but in the upcoming Killzone 3 is really Guerilla for total destruction.

E3 2010: Killzone 3 Hands-on

Quote

There are no pre-renders, no elaborate unplayable cut-scenes and no false promises; Killzone 3\'s reveal is pure and simple – an extended hands-on with the fourth level of a game that we\'re thrilled to report is full of awesome. In a cinema a few hundred yards from Guerrilla\'s studio in an Amsterdam that is, thanks to an ongoing strike from the city\'s refuse services, looking as grimy and hostile as the surface of Helghan itself, we\'re given the first look at a game that\'s going to get PS3 owners frothing all over again.

There\'s much that is familiar from the outset; picking up from the cliff-hanger ending of Killzone 2, Sev, Rico and the rest of the ISA forces – severely diminished by the climactic nuke - battle with a Helghan army that finds itself in the throes of a power struggle. "It\'s David vs. Goliath," explains Guerrilla\'s Herman Hulst, "but this time Goliath has bought a thousand troops and a thermonuclear arsenal."

From a distance, Killzone 3 looks familiar too; development began just as Killzone 2 shipped and naturally it uses the same engine as that game. Not that that\'s a bad thing: Killzone 2 is still to this day one of the prettiest shooters, with the only game that\'s likely to threaten its mantle the imminent Crysis 2.

Jetpacks - they\'re this year\'s lens flare, don\'t ya know.
But it\'s not the likes of Crytek, Treyarch or DICE that Guerrilla is pitting itself against; instead, it sees its competition much closer to home. "Of course, some little games came out just after us," says Hulst, referring to the critical successes of Heavy Rain, Uncharted 2 and God of War III. "As proud as we are of our friends at Worldwide Studios, these games inspired us to step it up and deliver a full-blown sequel to Killzone 2, and one that gets better on every front. There\'s nothing like some friendly competition to get us to raise the bar once again."

"They both did a fantastic job," agrees Senior Producer Steven Ter Heide. "Uncharted 2 obviously did great things with storytelling and God of War III did great things with scale. It\'s all stuff that we take on board – obviously we\'re a different kind of game and it\'s going to be a different experience, but we look at what they do and see how we can implement those kinds of thing. They\'ve pushed us to work harder."

It\'s easy to see the relationship between Killzone 3 and Killzone 2 running along similar lines to that between Uncharted 2 and the original Uncharted. Just as Nathan Drake\'s second outing remedied every gripe with the first, Killzone 3 sidesteps the issues with its predecessor, while at the same time making everything that was great about Killzone 2 that little bit greater.

It seems Guerrilla is wise to its mistakes and Killzone 3 certainly won\'t be making any of them again. A big criticism of Killzone 2 was its one-note palette – sure, the grim browns and dead yellows certainly helped the oppressive aesthetic, but over the length of the campaign they soon became wearisome. Killzone 3 answers this with aplomb. Although they\'re not shown up and running, concept art for several of the levels show that this will be a relative kaleidoscope of colour, with the dreary wastelands left in the wake of Killzone 2\'s nuke giving way to jungles filled with phosphorous light, through to the brilliant white of the snowbound level we get to play today...

Killzone 3: Confirmed gameplay details spill out

Quote

* IGN reports: \'The first three minutes we\'re allowed to go hands-on with has more set-pieces crammed in to it than the entire first level of Killzone 2, and it\'s also ten times bigger than what had gone before.\'

* The snow level is called Frozen Shores, and is the fourth level of the game. It sees Sev and Rico en route to an arms facility in a bid to rescue Captain Narville. It opens with Sev manning a mini-gun.

* Sev picks up the mounted mini-gun and can carry it - although it slows him down.

* The melee system is much-improved. It\'s now \'context sensitive\'. IGN reports: \'Creep up on a Helghan and it\'s possible to kick them up against a wall before plunging the knife with a further press of the melee button.\'

* Gruesome kills have been introduced. \'Sticking the knife in places it doesn\'t belong like a Helghan\'s ribcage or eye socket,\' reports IGN.

* Helghans now have jetpack troopers among their ranks, and they die spectacularly.

* Players can also use jetpacks. Tapping L1 sends the player skywards, while X lends a temporary speed boost. However, the altitude is capped.

* There\'s a mini-gun attached - but it easily overheats.

* The rocket-firing WASP weapon is similar to Modern Warfare\'s tank-busting gun. \'Primary fire unleashes a barrage of missiles that corkscrew their way to the intended target, with smoke wisps trailing in their path,\' reports IGN. \'Secondary fire sees players looking down a scope, locking on to a target and then unleashing death from above as rockets fire into the sky.\'

* The game is fully 3D enabled and \'looks stupendous\'. Bullets fly out of the screen.

Uncharted Developers are helping Killzone 3 developers, Guerrilla Games.

Quote

The studio has reportedly co-created the \'graphics engine\' of KZ3 - suggesting it will be built on the same development blocks as multi-award winning Uncharted 2. It has been working on the game in collaboration with long-term Killzone dev, Amsterdam\'s Guerilla Games.

Killzone 3 picks up where its predecessor left off and it’s a much grander experience in terms of scale and ambition. There will be more variety, more enemy types, massive environments and a broader vision of the planet Helghan and its many terrains.

EuroGamer Interview

Quote

Eurogamer: You talked about how UC2 and GoW influenced and inspired you, what about things on the other platforms, and elsewhere?

Steven Ter Heide: There\'s lots of inspiration to take. We\'ve all been to Avatar by now, I guess. That\'s a source of inspiration because it\'s in 3D and they\'re creating this amazing make-believe world, but there\'s lots of different games out there, and movies and books.

Eurogamer: That\'s a lot to cram in.

Steven Ter Heide: In this level which we have on show today we have four distinct experiences, which was something we wanted to focus on in Killzone 3 as well. In Killzone 2, in was much more, well, I wouldn\'t say it was just one experience which you got, but it wasn\'t as varied as we wanted it to be. This time around we\'re introducing a lot more gameplay experiences, in this level you start on the intruder, shooting - which was something else people said about 2, you spend all this time on an intruder and you don\'t get to fire the gun - this time around you\'re allowed to do that.

Then there\'s the regular gameplay, where you get your combat rifle and off you go, you encounter the jetpack enemies, and then you get the jetpack, which opens up this whole new experience - all of a sudden you\'re able to jump around and do this aerial combat and reach new areas and have new routes open up. Then we introduce the big rocket launcher, this portable weapon of mass destruction, and suddenly you\'re able to take out tanks and vehicles really easily, that feels really powerful. So there\'s these really distinct experiences, even in the scope of a single level, and that\'s going to happen throughout the game. We want to keep the user experience really fresh.

I\'m always iffy about adding something like jetpacks to a game. can really change how the game plays

the main thing I want changed is to have the camera pulled back a little bit. plus a few tweaks to first person cover

Killzone 3 controls “closer to standard run-and-gun”

Quote

Guerrilla Games have confirmed in July 2010 edition of the Official PlayStation Magazine that Killzone 3 will have “a set of controls that will appeal to the vast majority of audiences.”

In the interview, Herman Hulst of Guerrilla confirmed to OPM that “the heavy sensation of Killzone 2 is absolutely gone; instead this feels much closer to standard run-and-gun responsiveness.”

Whether or not this means that Killzone 3 will be embracing a control feel similar to that of the Call of Duty series (which would tie in with their comment about appealing to the vast majority of audiences) remains to be seen, but for those of your who enjoyed the unique feel of Killzone 2, we’re afraid that it will not be carried over to the new game.

Killzone 3 launches February 2011 exclusively on PlayStation 3, and will feature stereoscopic 3D and PlayStation Move support.

I\'m praying it\'s not twitch-reaction like call of duty. I dont mind it in COD but I like having some weight in KZ2.

That being said I couldnt aim worth shit in KZ2 so I\'m open to them changing it. I hated how it was impossible to aim exactly where you wanted. I\'d nudge the stick to move the aim a tiny bit and end up looking at the sky

I\'m confident we\'ll still feel the weight/physics while moving, it should be just faster/responsive controls.

Killzone 3:  4-player co-op confirmed
BY JAMIE FELTHAM JUL. 14TH, 2010 More on:Killzone 3

This week’s FirstPlay — the digital magazine for the European PSN — features a nice juicy Killzone 3 preview. It doesn’t reveal any new footage of the 3D-enabled shooter but does confirm something that we’ve been waiting to hear about for a while; co-op.

The inclusion of a co-op mode has been rumored before, but the preview now tells us that despite not knowing much about multiplayer, “we do know that Guerrilla is working on a special objective-based 4-man co-op mode to go with the standard 2-player stuff.”

That sounds like confirmation to us! If you have no idea what objective based 4 man co-op is, check out Battlefield: Bad Company 2’s Onslaught mode, which should at least give you an idea.

I\'m crossing my fingers.

Killzone 2 vs. Killzone 3 - Controls

Quote

One of the most characteristic qualities of Killzone 2 was its control scheme, which underscored the weighty feel of the game\'s first-person animations. It was also Killzone 2\'s most divisive quality: some players loved the sense of realism it provided, while others believed it impacted the responsiveness too much.

For Killzone 3, Guerrilla\'s developers are aiming to keep the unique sense of weight in the game while ramping up the accuracy and responsiveness of the controls. We talked to Game Director Mathijs de Jonge to get a better idea of the considerations involved with the redesign.

"Our first priority when we started working on the controls for Killzone 3 was to listen closely to Killzone 2\'s players - what they liked, what they disliked, and how they felt things could be improved," Mathijs says. "Accuracy and responsiveness consistently came up as the top issues. At the same time, a lot of players were saying they loved the weighty feel."

That might sound contradictory, but one doesn\'t have to preclude the other. "For the most part, the unique sense of weight in Killzone 2 comes directly from the first-person animations, not from the control scheme," Mathijs explains. "The speed of movement and the way the camera bobs up and down are consistent with the view of a person carrying around heavy equipment."

When the team went back to the drawing board, they began by exhaustively analyzing every aspect of the underlying system, taking into consideration factors like input lag, acceleration and dead zone [the amount of movement on the analog stick required to produce a reaction in the game –Ed.] and how each affected the overall gameplay. Their findings were used to make improvements to the accuracy and responsiveness of the controls.

The results so far have been very encouraging. "Right now it\'s still a work in progress," Mathijs says, "but we\'re definitely getting there. We’ve recalibrated the dead zone to be more responsive and significantly reduced the input lag, resulting in far better accuracy. Best of all, we\'ve managed to retain that sense of weight that set Killzone 2 apart from other shooters. I can\'t wait for people to try it out."

Explosive Killzone 3 Multiplayer Trailer Features Vehicles

Fresh from Sony\'s Gamescom press conference comes this undeniably epic Killzone 3 multiplayer trailer featuring both vehicles and jet packs. Check it out below.

Quote

This is the first time that multiplayer gameplay has been shown to the public and it\'s also the debut of vehicles in the multiplayer history of the franchise. Speaking from personal experience, I can see how vehicles and jet packs would really bring Killzone 3 to the pinacle of multiplayer gaming seeing as it was just about the only thing stopping Killzone 2\'s multiplayer from being truly awesome, great as it was. We\'ll know just how much improved it is when Killzone 3 launches in early 2011.

Earlier today I jumped right into a situation that was so CES it wasn\'t even funny: 3D glasses, HD gaming and motion sensing technology, all in one presentation. It was Killzone 3 in 3D, controlled with the PlayStation Move Sharp Shooter gun.

I was one in a long line of people to get their ass handed to them in the CES floor demo Sony had set up, but I was surprised at how responsive the camera moved with the movement of the gun. It basically moves the camera to where you point, and there are some fine tuning options in the menus if you aren\'t feeling it as much as I was. I expected for it to be disorienting, but I had no trouble picking off a few enemies before they mowed me down. Aside from the aiming, I could also hit the bottom of the gun to reload. Or tilt it to the side to reload. Also, thrusting the gun forward did a melee attack.

The gun itself is pretty nice, though it feels a bit large for my tastes. The Move controller mounts on the top-front while the Navigation controller mounts just under it, letting you control movement with your thumb. There are a few controls on the gun itself, like some of the face buttons and a trigger lock. This particular gun had some Killzone markings on it. Sony told me that games could be packaged with stickers that you stick on the gun.

Yea im hoping its awesome. I loved KZ2 but didnt put quite as much time into it as I wanted..partly because its tough to play other games and then jump into KZ\'s controls and gameplay, but also it took like a half an hour just to play one game

The one thing I\'m really worried about though, after seeing a couple minutes of online is how easy the melee insta-kills seem to be to pull off. In a game that takes an entire clip to take someone down, it seemed to easy for someone to run up and kill the dude first

I take back what I said. The gameplay looks solid and the sound absolutely blew me away..sounds like Bad Company 2 quality but still KZ-esque. I went from not that excited to really wanting to play this game after watching this video

OMG !  It looks fantastic, and Game-play rocks.    It\'s not a secret that this game is a DAY ONE purchase for me;  The SP will blow me away, and the MP as well.

Did you finish KZ2 on Veteran or Elite ?

To be honest, I\'m just finishing it now on normal, but aiming to complete Vet mode just before 3 comes out. Been so distracted with other games, not that I haven\'t been thoroughly enjoying the game, but it\'s not something I can\'t casually throw in when my 3 year old is kicking around.

My enthusiasm stems from needing a new FPS MP experience, but I will sharpen-up on the "bot" mp first:thumb:

Yeah, KZ2 and most of all KZ3 can be very very brutal, to keep out of children ;)

I finished KZ2 on Veteran, very challenging, not for everybody. It was so furious and intense, damn I put some effort to finish it.  I want numba 3 bad :thumb:

Killzone 3 may be Move\'s killer app, makes case for exclusivity

Quote

This is why I want to give the finger to people who whine about console exclusives. The use of the Move in this game is far beyond what the majority of developers are doing in a mainstream game, and none of this would be possible with the Kinect. This shows what can happen when a developer only has to focus on a single platform, and has the time and resources to tune the hell out of all the details and advantages that a single console can give you. Killzone 3 on the PS3 looks amazing, and I have a feeling that neither the graphics nor the wonderful Move support would have been possible on a multiplatform release.

Which means, of course, that the comments will be filled with "I\'d buy this if it were on another system," and those folks are entitled to their opinions. But remarks like that overlook how console exclusives excel in ways multiplatform releases don\'t—or can\'t. Exclusives often show other developers how to do things well.

We have the Killzone 3 review code in the office, and I\'ll be playing a nice chunk of the game with the Move. We\'ll be sure to offer impressions of the experience in the review.

But rest assured that it\'s not a gimmick, and it\'s not a cheap cash-in. The Move support for the game is well thought out, and the entirety of the game can be played enjoyably using motion controls. In many cases it\'s even better. We\'ll have more soon.

Anyone play the Beta

I played 2 games tonight. It plays very similarly to KZ2, which is to be expected to some degree. The controls are a bit more responsive but I still have accuracy issues with the game. Hard to explain how theyre different but similar until you play it...maybe its just the ps3\'s joysticks since, to me, it seems more difficult to be precise on the ps3\'s controllers vs. the 360\'s smaller radius/tighter joy stick

Both games were also one team dominating which was a pretty similar thing in KZ2. Either you\'re destroying and a little bored but still having some mindless fun,  or you\'re on the losing side and its a pretty shitty game and frustrating..then every so often there will be a great game where both sides are close. Seems like KZ3 follows that trend.

Going off the beta, i\'ll be getting KZ3 but i\'m not dieing to get it. But comparing to the competition right now, KZ3 is still on the top of my list

I didn\'t play the beta, waiting for the Game, a must have for me; I loved KZ2, the most intense furious SP I have ever played, on veteran/Elite.  Thanks for your thoughts Viper, and yes, the controls now are more responsive, as other friends of mine told me.

I\'ll buy it on Day One.

I do hate how they show the \'move setup\' thing every damn time you start the game...even if you dont own it. Would make too much sense to only show that screen when people have the move connected and when theyre setting up the game for the first time

unless theyre trying to subliminally sell me a move...but its not working

Just starting in on the MP and enjoying it thus far. There is always a bit of a learning curve when playing new maps, but after a night of continuous play I\'m feeling somewhat comfortable.

Definitely prefer the Boulevard  and Frozen Dam maps, not to hot on the Jungle yet.

Anyone using the Move "gun"?

I\'ll buy it when I go back Home, after Mar the 3rd, can\'t wait.

I heard the Move is cool, you have just to get used, there\'s a learning curve.

I\'m really enjoying both the SP and MP game modes, though I have been favouring the warzone MP in the last two days. When the teams are balanced, it makes for some really enjoyable matches, then add the varying objectives, and hot damn, it\'s quite the blast!

Like when you get snuffed by someone staking out the respawn point, but you can see their postion before you spawn, then to !reappear and brutal melee their ass. Now that\'s satisfying!

I think the servers were a tad overloaded yesterday; either it took forever to connect, and when you did land a match, you\'d get dropped halfway through.
