Title: a question about RAM
Post by: Cerberus on May 31, 2010, 01:02:09 PM
I just checked the site I am probably going to get my computer from, and  they have the following listed.

1. 6GB Dominator GT Tri-DDR3 1866MHz (7-8-7-20)
2. 6GB Dominator GT Tri-DDR3 2000MHz (8-8-8-24)

the thing that is puzzling me, is that the second one is £259 cheaper  than the first. does this sound right, or is it a mistake? surely the  price difference can\'t be THAT great either way.

The second one has more latency with the higher timings (8-8-8-24), so the first would be a tidbit faster.  Doubt you\'ll see much of a difference, if any, but this value is somewhat important to overclockers.

Also ram prices always fluctuate.  They may be trying to clear out old inventory...

I think that might have been what it was, because the next time I went back to check, the prices had gone back to normal.

I\'m so out of the loop with computers, I only get caught up and research when I\'m contemplating upgrading/building a rig for someone.  But for the most part you won\'t really notice a difference.  Actually, you won\'t notice a difference at all.  Go with the cheaper and be happy.
