Just wanted to say that :) Worked door to door for the last 6 months. Sucked seriously. Quit two weeks ago and now starting a job as a photographer for a portrait studio. :running:

Congrats man

You\'re movin\' on up like the jefferson\'s...congrats...:fro:
-
does this mean you\'ll be able to run off extra copies of the naked pics on peoples holiday snaps for your own "personal use" when they drop them off for the one hour processing service?
-
Even with a new job, you\'re still the same old loser.
J/K
Congrats.

I\'m working as a photographer doing portraits for a nationwide company, not a photo lab technician. I did do that for a number of years while in high school though. The shit people dropped off was amazing. My favorite time (and I can say this because i was in high school at the time) was prom season. So many titties and pictures of drunken girls. Creepiest was this guy who dropped off pictures from a funeral. Grossest was an old woman who went to nude beaches and nudist colonies with her son. Even grosser, she shaved her snatch.

It\'s a nice job, if you like photography, of course. Does your company offer photo products? I\'m looking for a flash for my Canon but they\'are all so expensive...
-
congrats meng.
Im still having a hell of a time getting a job out of college. Submitted my resume to a boat load of places, only got one response and interview but didnt get the job.
Part of it\'s me, since I\'m not that confident in what im doing so I have a hard time selling that I\'m the best person to hire. I know i work my ass off and would pick stuff up, but I have a hard time selling that.
Been debating just to do retail er something for the time being...

I\'m just gonna give you background of me since college. Point is to give you some insight and maybe see some parallels in your life, not talk about myself. I graduated college May 2009 with a Communications and also a TV/Film degree. I got out of college and started working in the basement office of a real prick contractor. I was very unhappy there. Depressed really. I tried for a couple months to find a job in my field. No dice. The company i was working for was in financial trouble. My boss tried to get me to cheat on my taxes so he didn\'t have to pay the government and I had 2 payroll checks bounce. I quit on the spot.
Not knowing where to turn and unemployed, and not real confident in myself and what I wanted in life, I took a part time job at Best Buy. In January, February, my hours got cut at Best Buy and I was struggling to pay my bills. My confidence level has never been too high up till this point was even more depressed than I was. I saw an ad for a marketing job.
Went in for the interview and found out it was door to door selling free estimates for windows and siding. Desperate and wanting a change, I took the job. I did that for 6 months and learned a few life lessons while there. I learned that when you want something bad enough in life, you have to have the confidence in yourself to do it and work hard, don\'t take the foot off the gas, you will get it; even if you are discouraged. If you have a shitty attitude, you are setting yourself up for utter failure. I saw I was setting myself up for failure in life and I took my time in sales to improve my confidence, attitude and my wallet. When I was confident at peoples doors, I made money. Which takes me to my next point.
I\'ve always wanted to be a photographer. I wanted it so bad. I invested most of my money from door to door in equipment and used my marketing and sales skills I learned to sell myself to prospective employers as well as in my freelancing. I set a goal for myself and was confident I would achieve it. Now I interviewed at this company and murdered it and have a job doing what I want to do.
One trick I use to keep my eyes on the prize is writing down my goals that I want to achieve; a trick I learned in sales. And put your goal or goals somewhere you will see it every day; either in your bathroom, car, fridge, etc. Then figure out how you will achieve the goals and cross them one by one off the list. I wrote down mine on my phone on the homepage so every time I make a call or write a text, I know what I\'m working for. So far, I\'ve crossed 3 or 4 off.
Everything in life is mental. Keep a good attitude, tell yourself every day you can do it and when you go in for the interview, know to yourself you are gonna wow them. Seize every opportunity. You see an ad on monster or craigs list, respond. You can do this man. You just gotta tell yourself you can. If someone like me who had absolutely no confidence can change his attitude and mindset, anyone can.

It sucked but you got numb to assholes after a while and turned it into a game. You do that job for the money. Just stuck it out way longer than i wanted to. What was funny was when I quit, this kid I worked with told me I was throwing my life away and giving up the best opportunity of my lifetime. Seriously? I think working for a national portrait studio is the best opportunity I could ask for right now.

Looks like I finally landed a job. First \'career\' type of job out of college. Should get the call/letter proposal tomorrow
Going to be doing some database work (working with SQL server), analyzing the data, looking at the information system business processes of the company and being a part of improving them. Even though it took longer than normal by not settling with something less, this was exactly what i wanted out of college so i\'m pretty excited

^^^Congrats!!...:fro:

First two days went pretty well. My manager and I know I have a long way to go (just graduated with no real world experience, and im in a pretty high technical and business-process part of the company..like learning C#, TSQL, and using SQL server; all 3 things i\'ve done similar things in school but not those exact tools) so some of it is a little frustrating that I\'m not awesome at the job right away...that and the uncertainty that i\'ll succeed since it is only my third day tomorrow and I\'ve yet to do anything too substantial outside of some practice C# and SQL server
Also trying to find the balance of taking my own breaks..it\'s almost like the first day of school in places like the lunch room where people already have their groups so I just prefer to keep working than worry about having some awkward social interactions, lol.

Congrats dude. Glad to hear your doing well. I\'m actually unemployed atm. Striking contrast to when I posted this thread, lol. Got laid off. Probably going back in a month or so. Either way, taking the time to start my own portrait business. And by taking time, I mean it is more work than I\'ve ever experienced in my life lol.
