Resistance 3 Screenshot In Depth Analysis by Gmoney

Some new news :
It\'s still one of the most under-appreciated franchises out there in our estimation, and we\'ll be sure to keep you up-to-date regarding Resistance 3.
You can grab a ton of information from next month\'s Game Informer, too. We\'ve recently learned that Insomniac\'s huge new project will be on the cover, and the details are already starting to leak onto the Internet. According to PS3Center, it seems the first big piece of news is that Nathan Hale will not be returning as the protagonist. Part of the GI feature says "New Main Character," and it seems the new head man will be Joe Capelli. We don\'t know anything about him just yet but for those hoping to see Hale one more time, you\'ll be disappointed. Of course, the article goes on to talk about fresh locales and even a new weapon system (possibly), so stay tuned for anything related to Resistance 3 in the coming months. Might it be ready to go for the holiday 2011 season...? Insomniac is usually pretty good about releasing their games on time and even though we don\'t have an estimated launch window just yet, we\'re willing to bet that Sony wants it ASAP. Oh, and we\'re guessing R3 will be Move and 3D compatible.

What You Missed In The Resistance 3 Trailer

Some more info : I think Insomniac are really focusing more on Story and Story telling this time, and on a more immersive game-play/atmosphere and more variety. I\'m excited.
1. Stand And Fight
The first passage of gameplay we were shown was also the most familiar. Essentially a pitched battle among the wreckage of a bombed-out street, with Joe Capelli and a small band of rebel fighters taking on a wave of Chimeran hybrid soldiers and airships, it served as a reminder of what makes the series engaging, if not the ways Resistance 3 is attempting to remedy its flaws.
The action was gratifyingly fast, and the combination of air and ground targets provided an effective showcase for the game’s excellent weapon-set: the Bullseye, which lets you tag enemies and sends all subsequent bullets directly to the target; the Auger, which can shoot through hard, dense substances like brick and metal; the Marksman, which fires a burst of long-range bullets, or a drone that fires electrical charges at a selected target.
Few studios have a genuine knack for inventive weaponry but Insomniac is one of them, and Resistance 3 will feature a number of additions to its arsenal, as well as proper iron-sights – surprisingly, a series first – and an upgrade system that rewards players for effective use of individual guns.
2. The Enclave
Perversely, the most radical change Resistance 3 is making to the established formula is also the one element that Insomniac is keen not to shove in players’ faces. By adopting the first-person, in-game storytelling established in Half-Life and its sequel, Resistance 3 will offer depth and nuance in direct proportion to how much attention you pay to the details.
This was exemplified by a sequence in which Joe Capelli visits a small, intensely religious community in the mountains. It is a scene of pure domesticity, and a world away from the carnage and destruction taking place in the cities: the log cabin is bathed in the subtle glow of candlelight, children play games on the floor, a man cooks a stew made from the flesh of fallen Chimera at the stove.
The atmosphere is reminiscent of the friendly stations in Metro 2033, full of telling details and revealing conversations, but only for those with a desire to take it all in. Resistance 3 is still an action game first and foremost, but this time Insomniac wants to give you more.
3. Death Squad
Another facet of Resistance 3’s more focused and detailed story is a more intelligent use of pacing. Players simply won’t have the chance to look around and drink it all in if they are constantly besieged by enemy forces, which was often the case in the previous two games. This time, however Insomniac has deliberately conceived set-pieces that allow for periods of inaction or down-time – concepts that are used very effectively in games like Half-Life 2 and Modern Warfare.
This idea was given form in a sequence where Capelli and a small band of resistance fighters had to follow a Chimeran death-squad through the city streets. Their orders were to observe rather than intercept, so there was a long stretch of gameplay where Capelli simply followed the commanding officer through ruined buildings and subterranean tunnels. The confluence of the rumbling sound of the Chimeran machines, blood traces on the walls, ruined posters from before the fall, and the hushed, frightened whispers of the rebels created a palpable tension.
The segment built to a climactic moment where a Chimeran hybrid smashed through a boarded-up window, pulling a terrified victim through just as he was giving Capelli the reassurance that the enemy was nowhere to be seen. It’s a little cliché, sure, but that didn’t make it any less effective, or the resulting battle – one of the epic, open skirmishes that Resistance is known for – any less rewarding.
4. Up River
The preceding three proof of concept sequences felt as rough and unfinished as the term implies. All of the vital elements were in place, but some lacked proper character animations, some had placeholder dialogue and sound effects, some had no music. With about a year to go before Resistance 3’s release the lack of polish is understandable, but the fourth sequence was not only far closer to completion, it also encapsulated all of the ideas articulated by the others.
Joe Capelli and his comrades are on a boat, sailing through an abandoned town, shrouded in mist and half-submerged in water. Chimeran plant-life has started to grow on the buildings, long tubes covered in ice protrude from the surface, rotting Christmas decorations provide a glimpse into the moment the town succumbed.
The boat idles past the corpse of a Kraken, Chimeran Leapers feasting at the cavernous hole in its stomach – if Capelli opens fire the Leapers will attack, if not they will remain oblivious to his presence. The atmosphere, the pacing and narrative detail: everything is in place, everything feels right.
Silence of this kind simply begs to be broken, and before long Grims emerge from the houses on either side. Climbing onto the rooftops, they variously hurl objects or themselves at the boat, many of them landing in the water and frantically swimming in its wake. After the attack is quashed the boat arrives at a vast bridge, both ends disappearing into the thick fog. A Goliath – a siege engine, 150-feet tall – emerges from the water, firing a barrage of rockets at the boat that send it spinning across the water as the bridge is torn asunder by the blast.
The proof of concept sequence ends, and we have been given all the proof we need.
5. Trimming The Fodder
While multiplayer details for Resistance 3 are a little limited we were given a few clues as to what to expect. For a start it was suggested that 60 players was a little over the top for multiplayer and that very few people actually took advantage of such numbers in online games.
Insomniac also described MP as progression based, offering upgrades and unlockables as you level up. Then there were the maps, which will all be unique to the multiplayer game and set all over the world. No settings from the single-player will be repeated in online play.
As for co-op, Insomniac appears to be making the full campaign playable in co-op with no separate co-op mode, but the number of players has yet to be revealed.

Announced during this year’s gamescom conference, Resistance 3 stole the show, with a stunning live action trailer hinting at the game’s content. But the reveal lacked any gameplay, which we will be able to see for the first time tomorrow at the Spike TV Video Game Awards. With such a huge buzz surrounding the game, and in true Insomniac Games style, the developer has ramped up their viral marketing machine by releasing a scary image of a Grim in the wild, baffling media outlets.
An apparent deer hunter in Berwick near Morgan City, Louisiana posted the creepy picture on the Wildgame Innovations website , claiming he was lying in wait in the pitch black when the strange creature appeared. He was so frightened that his camera broke, but he managed to retreive the image from its undamaged memory chip.
The Daily Mail, which also reported on the story, were baffled by the picture, strangely believing that the picture was of Spider-Man, and WTDN were perplexed by what they saw, as were NC33 who even featured it on their Morning Edition show. In response, Insomniac Games teased that they could be behind the image on their Twitter account:
"Whoops… looks like one got out. If you see a Grim on the loose… please return to Insomniac Games, Burbank, CA: http://bit.ly/fqGoXX"
The Grim is a new strain of the Chimera enemy that first appeared in Resistance 2.

Resistance 3 multiplayer detailed, beta coming later this year
Greetings from the PlayStation.Blog.Lounge here at the fabulous W Hotel, across the street from the Game Developers Conference in downtown San Francisco. As this post goes live, we are revealing our all-new multiplayer for Resistance 3. We’ve said all along we wanted Resistance 3’s MP mode to bring the best of both Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2’s MP and co-op modes, and you’re about to see just how we’ve managed to do that.
Resistance 3 will feature 16-player Human vs. Chimera deathmatch and objective-based modes set in locations across the globe. That may seem somewhat jarring after the 40 and 60-player mayhem in RFOM and R2. Rest assured though, our biggest motivation in determining our new player count was the fun times that we and the community had on maps like RFOM’s Busyard and Rooftops, as well as the Bayou House and San Francisco maps in Resistance 2.
Resistance 3 will offer a very deep and customizable progression system. Players can create their own progression paths through multiplayer, spending their hard-earned points to customize loadouts that fit their unique playstyle. We learned a lot from Resistance 2 co-op in terms of giving players the ability to create specific roles in a team and level up different abilities – which you will see with the various active tactical and support abilities, as well as the new personal and combat attributes.

More info:

Rest-assured though, our biggest motivation in determining our new player-count was the fun times that we and the community had on maps like RFOM’s Busyard and Rooftops, as well as the Bayou House and San Francisco maps in R2.
Resistance 3 will offer a very deep and customizable progression system. Players can create their own progression paths through multiplayer, spending their earned points to customize load-outs that fit their unique play style. We learned a lot from Resistance 2 co-op in terms of giving players the ability to create specific roles in a team and level up different abilities – which you will see with the various active tactical and support abilities, as well as the new personal and combat attributes.
For instance – each player can choose and level different support abilities – such as a Bubble Shield, Ammo Beacon (give ammo to teammates) or Radar Beacon (enhance your team’s radar). There are also tactical abilities you can use against your enemies, such as the Doppelganger (projects an image of you nearby to distract enemies) or Dash (an explosive burst of speed to evade enemy attacks).
Furthermore, each player can select and level a personal attribute and a combat attribute. These range from the ability to have leapers bust out from your corpse, to start with more weapons in your arsenal, to reloading or firing at a faster rate. You will be able to truly customize your character loadout to fit your own unique playstyle in Resistance 3.
We’ve been working on this new direction for close to two years now, polishing and refining our maps. We’re having a ton of fun playing Resistance 3 in the office every day. We will be bringing a multiplayer beta to PSN later this year, so stay tuned to our newsletters (Check today’s for the first news on Insomniac‘s Community Day on March 29th!), Full Moon Show podcast, Twitter feed and Facebook page for all the latest updates!

I\'ve never really tried the resistance multiplayer.
I liked the first game\'s campaign a lot, but i got to play it because a friend let me borrow it.
Then I didnt love the game enough to buy the 2nd game even though i do want to play through the campaign eventually...played the coop a bit but i wasnt too impressed with it. Got too repetitive, which says a lot since i love coop
so im not sure about this game. If theres NOTHING out besides this game id get it, but i think its coming out when uncharted and batman are being released so...gives me more time to play resistance 2 i guess

Resistance 3 Multiplayer Split-Screen Confirmed; Dual Split-Screen Log-In Included
Shooting enemies with a friend on the same couch with different PSN accounts at the same time…finally!
Online multiplayer is huge now and there’s no denying that. With many games like Call of Duty adding the support for two players on one couch its becoming a feature more games are adding. Now it’s Resistance 3’s turn.
James Stevenson, a Senior Community Manager for Insomniac Games at Burbank California, confirmed via Insomniac’s Forums that Resistance 3 will not only allow players to play Split-screen online Multiplayer, but the second player will also be able to sign into there own account. This is a feature absent from many PS3 titles like Black Ops but featured in the 360 versions. Stevenson did mention that the feature will NOT be implemented in the beta that is set to take place later this year. We will unfortunately have to wait for the retail release.
Resistance 3’s Multiplayer was recently revealed last month. The game will feature 16 player matches with 8 players fighting for the humans and 8 fighting for the Chimera. Maps won’t be just restricted to campaign locations but will take place all over the world.
Resistance 3 will release on September 6 in the US for PS3.

Resistance 3 to support PlayStation Move and Sharp Shooter, along with 3D
Insomniac has just announced at its Community Day event here in Los Angeles that when Resistance 3 finally arrives on September 6, it will bring with it support for 3D televisions, as well as compatibility with PlayStation Move and its Sharp Shooter attachment. The studio said during a public panel that it was encouraged by the Move functionality in Killzone 3 and plans to implement Resistance 3 in a similar way.
This is all good news, because, let us tell you: If you\'ve never died in a Chimera attack, holding a model gun with a motion controller attached while wearing 3D glasses, well ... you haven\'t really lived.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ru5xGVekOo0&feature=player_embedded
We wanted to be the first to bring you this EU Blog exclusive footage of our Bogota, Colombia multiplayer map from Resistance 3! Set in a sunbaked trainyard, this map has an awesome mixture of long-, mid- and close-combat options. For that reason, it really fits our main objective with Resistance 3 multiplayer – to give the player a ton of choice in how they approach the game, while also giving them weapons and abilities that make their style of play even more powerful.
Features in this video you should check out include the different HUD for Chimeran players, and our new Resistance 3 rocket-launcher, the Firestorm. One of the best parts about Resistance 3 is customizing your loadout with the various Support and Tactical abilities. In the video, you’ll see players dropping Healing Beacons and Bubble Shields for their teammates, as well as using Thermal Vision and Dash to get a jump on enemies. Various attributes allow you to carry larger clips, track enemies by their footprints, and even have leapers burst from your corpse. You’ll be able to unlock the various weapons, abilities and attributes, and upgrade them all, as you continue to progress through MP.
You may also notice the various Beserks that you can utilize. These reward you for playing well. Humans can gain a Riot Shield, while Chimera and cloak. Both sides can gain access to the powerful Auger, with its ability to see and fire through walls, as well as deploy mobile shields.
All of this and more will be available in the Closed Beta – access details to follow. Furthermore, keep your eyes peeled next week, as we head to E3 to reveal a new multiplayer map that takes place in Europe! As always, stay tuned to the Insomniac Games Facebook and Twitter feeds, as well as eu.playstation.com for all of the latest updates on Resistance 3!

Resistance 3 preview: Hurry down doomsday
I\'m just a little embarrassed to admit that my first thought upon seeing the preview disc for Resistance 3 show up on my doorstep was this: "Who can I con into playing this for me?"
It\'s not that I hated the previous games in the series, they\'re fine for what they are, but my curiosity about what\'s next for the franchise was frankly dwarfed by my desire to pass work off onto other people. I didn\'t have any luck, and what a lucky break that was for me, because Resistance 3 -- at least for the three hours I spent with it -- is spectacular.
I know, I\'m still not sure I believe it myself...

Resistance 3 Campaign Preview By Shaun McInnis, GameSpot
...
There\'s a lot more we can talk about; there\'s the fact that the game\'s impressive AI has last survivor enemies retreating to a safe destination to pick you off from afar and the fact that the incredible sense of atmosphere gives Killzone 3 a run for its money with beautiful lighting and smoke effects. And sure, there are also nitpicks, like the aforementioned ladders and the fact that some massive enemies--like the new Brawler--go down surprisingly quickly. But all you really need to know is that the team at Insomniac has created a terrific campaign, one that strikes a great balance between the new (its bleak middle-American setting and tone) and the familiar (the elaborate and varied weaponry). Needless to say, we\'re very excited to see where Capelli\'s journey goes after these first few hours.

Getting a little underwhelmed with resistance 2. turning me off from buying resistance 3 at full price
it\'s just uninspiring to me. the games pretty difficult, which ill give it kudos for...but once i finish a difficult part of the game, i know around the corner is another group of people that feels exactly the same as before and think \'fuck it..i dont want to do that shit again\'. almost the whole game has been like that.
so ill probably wait on R3 like i did on R2
-
I was a bit disappointed by R2 as well, let\'s say uninspired.
R3 could be the Resisance game devs wanted to do since the beginning, the atmosphere is great and they put a lot of effort to do it.
We\'ll see.

Who\'s playing R3 ?
-
I enjoyed my first and so far only play through. While R3 is right up there with Fall of Man I’m hesitant to say it’s any better other than graphics. The weapons wheel is back along with, R&C type weapon leveling, health pick ups, and a quality story line all of which make for a better game than R2 but none of the battle scenarios quite reached the level of epic feel the first had which was a bit of a let down for me. I loved the large arenas and quantity of allies and enemies FoM started battles off with on several occasions, in comparison I found R3 lacking in this area. OTOH R3 offered a few battle twists of its own along with pacing that started off extremely brisk and never let up.
Keep in mind I’m mostly not too keen on FPS games to begin with. Insomniac got top dollar for this game from me mainly because I love the Ratchet & Clank series so much and I know they always deliver a top quality product, which Resistance3 is, although a bit on the short side.

Thanks for you thoughts. I tried to buy it today but it\'s not available yet in the place where I live/work now :(

I want to play this... badly.
