Title: Question?
Post by: clips on October 11, 2010, 07:39:27 AM
I\'ve been thinkin\' and sometimes my mind goes off thinkin\' some crazy s**t when i\'m just in deep thought, so why is it that in this day and age, when we have the latest cutting edge technology, the most sophisticated in cleaner energy/efficient running vehicles the world has ever seen, that our way of life isn\'t getting better?

We even have optic sensor identification now...y\'know the stuff that we were amazed to see in sci-fi movies..that\'s a reality now....they even have some type of clean water technology that is made up of a simple pellet or pill, that when you drop this thing in a glass of dirty water, it instantly makes the water drinkable.

I say all this because i wonder that why with all of these advances, do things tend to get worse?...i\'m talking about evertything in general from the global economy to jobs, it\'s harder to make a living and to just get by,....you\'d figure with all of this tech that we have now, that the human race would be living in a somewhat peaceful utopia....ok maybe not that extreme, but somewhere along those lines.

My point is that i don\'t see that happening no time in the near future....it seems that things just keep getting worse and worse even with the advances that the human race have made thus far........will 2012 be the year that this thing comes to a boiling point?....thoughts?

Maybe this should go to CE, but the most traffic seems to be in off topic, but if a Mod wants to transfer it over there feel free....

Because it costs too much. It costs too much to produce on a mass scale, and it\'d cost too much for any consumers to buy anything high tech like you\'re talking about.

and we\'re in a depression, which is why people are struggling now. Picture a series of wavelengths...we\'re at the bottom of the dip at the moment. History says that things will pick back up and we\'ll start going up the next wavelength, and inevitably go back down...economists dont even understand the economy so I wouldnt ask why it does that.

So just because we\'re at a shitty time economically doesnt mean our way of life isnt better. Hospitals are the epitome of amazing use of technology to keep people alive...the problem is still cost. My mom got pneumonia and they had to use this portable CT scan type of thing, which was pretty amazing...but the cost of it was astronomical.

In regard to the clean water, a lot of philanthropists are using that clean water technology in 3rd world countries where people only have access to dirty water sources. So just because we arent seeing it every day doesnt mean its not being used..and again, those machines their using cost a lot of money to make

Until they can start mass producing technology like you\'re talking about at a cheap price we wont see stuff like that in households, but that doesnt mean its not being used.

So can you explain why with all this technology we still don\'t have a cream that kills a freaking hair follicle?

Why o we need a freaking laser?

My $.02: Life is what you make of it.

It doesn\'t matter what decade you\'re in, living was never easy.  Imagine being in the "Roaring" 20\'s or 30\'s.  Unless you were rich you were more than likely suffering.  Someone in your family would have a life-threatening illness that had no treatment, and the avg lifespan was half of what it is now.

But going back to my original point.  You can be dirt poor and happy with life, and/or filthy rich and want to commit suicide.  Money in the bank isn\'t a reliable barometer for happiness, and neither is technology.  Being content with what you have is.  But as we all know that\'s not easy in our consumer culture. :P

See that THX\'s signature? Read the last one by me. That is the best technology we could ever have. Stuck in traffic and need to drop a deuce? Press a button and bloop! Your poop is now on the pavement. And no need for TP.

There are more people living today than have lived and died combined throughout all our recorded history.  Even in these depressed economic times100s of millions have a much higher standard of living than that of the measly few thousand ultra-wealthy living just a century ago. All due in no small way to advances in technology. I’m surprised things aren’t much worse considering the magnitude of the global economic meltdown.

Things aren’t all peachy and will probably get worse before we turn the corner yet will still beat the hell out of grubbing a living out of the dirt which is how 99.9%  of the world got by not so long ago.
Through out the already mentioned natural up and down cycles of the markets, its been tracked over the last 500 years to show especially deep troughs appear roughly every 60 years. While it’s a safe bet that’s what is taking place now it’s so far no where near as severe in its consequences as in times past. I see reasons to hope we won’t need to eat a ton more shit before this slump is over. Unfortunately I know one other thing besides jack & squat, that I can always be wrong.
