Got some glimpses at the game finally.....and holy shit
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/hit-the-battlefield-3/710836
I will be getting a new computer solely because of this game. of course ill wait till more details on the game since ill be skeptical until they lay out exactly how the game will be. But the clips so far show the game to be amazing...just want to know how big the maps are/how many players/if it will be more like BF2 than BF:BC.
-
player counts they\'ve already addressed
24 players on console
64 players on pc
:)
But yeah, i\'m hoping my current computer will hold up when they release the recommended specs and I will upgrade accordingly.
I couldn\'t be any more excited for a game than I am for BF3.. and there are some GOOD ass games coming out on PC this year.
-
Yeah, thinking to by a new monster PC to play this and other great PC games.

EA: Battlefield 3 Designed to Take Down Call of Duty
"This November, we\'re launching Battlefield 3. It\'s going up against the next Call of Duty, which is presently the #1 game in the game industry," he said. "A game that last year did $400 million dollars in revenue on day one. [Battlefield 3] is designed to take that game down."
Riccitiello later compared this holiday\'s battle between the two games to the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry in baseball and said gamers can expect to see massive advertising campaigns for both titles.
"There will be a couple hundred million dollars of marketing against these two products going head to head. We think we have the better product," Riccitiello added.
EA Games president Frank Gibeau echoed similar comments during GDC last month when he told us: "Everybody loves a heavyweight fight, and that\'s what this is going to be. We\'re here to compete."

We will see :)

Here is a game where the PC version is the one to get. :P
I love the sound design they are aiming for with this game. No Hollywood BS, instead documentary type sound/brutal realistic effects.
They recorded the sound-scape during a military exercise here in Sweden.

Yep, this is going to be epic on a very powerful PC !

E3 2011 in Los Angeles is only a few days away and there is a lot of excitement in the air. We are thrilled to be at the expo to show you Battlefield 3! We are currently putting the final touches on our demo - testing, tweaking, and in general, creating a game that’s looking amazing. I’m very happy and proud of what our DICE team has accomplished and what we’ll be unveiling to the world at E3.
Following our Battlefield 3 announcement earlier this spring, a lot of you have asked us for more info on multiplayer. Well, wait no further – we will be showing both single player and multiplayer gameplay at E3! You can expect new trailers and screenshots as well as in-depth press previews hitting next week. You can also watch the EA press conference live on EA.com on Monday.
So what can you expect from the Battlefield 3 multiplayer? Powered by the Frostbite 2 engine, Battlefield 3 features some of the biggest and most spectacular maps that we have built. At the same time, we are also able to create more intense close-quarter combat than ever before. The multiplayer map, “Operation Métro,” available for press to play on the show floor, combines both sides of the scale into one cohesive experience. Gamers will experience a physical battlefield and be able to temporarily disable vehicles, go prone, mount weapons, lay down suppressive fire and more. Under the hood, the brand-new engine ensures cutting-edge visuals and immersion. All things combined, big and small, add up to the best Battlefield game we have ever created!
Of course there are things we will not be showing at E3, including the game’s extensive co-op campaign, the introduction of Team Death Match mode and the Battlefield 3 Battlelog web destination – featuring powerful social tools, feeds and detailed player stats. Battlelog also lets you manage your friends lists, squad up, create platoons, use voice chat and follow your friends’ progress in real-time, and more. Battlelog will be available for the monthly fee of (drum roll)... zero dollars. We look forward to providing more information on these features in the near future!

debut of bf3 on ps3... not bad... hard to tell on a compressed streaming video. Looks like it will look decent on consoles.

Kraptoku: I’ve Seen Battlefield 3 on PS3 Firsthand. It’s Spectacular.
The last time I saw Kevin O\'Leary he had a beard. A tier-one beard. These day\'s he\'s wrangling press for Battlefield 3. Right now he\'s walking me behind a curtain on the second floor of a New York City ballroom to a Playstation 3 set-up on a back room television.
They won\'t allow me to play the game myself, but this will be the first time I\'ve had a chance to see the eagerly-anticipated Battlefield 3 playing on a console in person. I, and probably lots of you, had a chance to see the game played on a PS3 during an appearance on Jimmy Fallon\'s late night show. But I asked for a chance to check the game out to see how the console version compared to the computer one in person.
Later I went back and played through a multiplayer level of the game on a computer, just to refresh my memory. (Check out a quick video tour of that map here.)
Initially there isn\'t a lot of difference to notice. O\'Leary is guiding his soldier through the familiar Fault-Line series of gameplay shown off on Fallon and elsewhere. Another soldier shoulders his way into a garage, works his way through the building and then out into a parking lot where the group is ambushed.
Things look very similar, but then I start to notice some subtle differences. The lighting is the biggest difference. In the Playstation 3 version the shadows cast across the opening sequence are sharper, there\'s less subtlety in the way the light is diffused. During the gunfight that takes place outside in the parking lot there seems to be a lot less smoke and dust on the PS3 version. When my teammates fire, their barrels don\'t spew out smoke that quickly dissipates. In the PC version the entire parking lot seems to be clouded with debris, smoke and dust, in the PS3 version the same scene seems clearer, cleaner.
But these are the sort of differences you\'d only notice if you were looking for them. At first blush, the Playstation 3 version of Battlefield 3 is every bit as impressive as the computer version. The fidelity of the urban battlefield is overwhelming, the nuance of details found in the buildings, cars and make up of the city serve as a sort of camouflage for the action that unravels during the gunfight. It\'s hard to spot enemies until they open fire.
Most importantly, the PS3 version won\'t disappoint fans who found the PC version of the game thrilling. While I wasn\'t able to play through the level, O\'Leary pointed out some minor, obvious differences, between the controls of the PC and PS3 version. The game will use the directional pad, for instance, to allow you to turn on a weapon-mounted flashlight. It also changes your weapon\'s firing mode and brings up your character\'s special kit in multiplayer.
As my short time in front of the PS3 version of the game wrapped up, I ask O\'Leary if we can expect to see Move support on the game.
"Right now we\'re focused on shipping the best game in October," he responds, completely side-stepping the question.
It sounds like the game\'s next big showing will be at Gamescom in Germany next month. Hopefully we\'ll get a chance to play the game on a console there.
Very good news !

just want to go ahead and get a new pc already. The game looks more like BC2 than I was expecting, but it still looks great. hopefully playing it feels more like BF2 than BC though (the game in general, not just the player controls). unfortunately wont know that till I actually play it
-
I really enjoyed bc2... what didn\'t you like about it? It didn\'t have the huge maps of bf2, but I found it to be very enjoyable.
Insane new multiplayer vid.... jets! http://youtu.be/NDDfPxF3EFE

I loved BC2 and put a lot of time into it...but i loved it for a console game
the huge maps of bf2 make the game play feel completely different. Granted I only really played rush on BC2, it was very restricted in terms of scale with how that game mode is set up.
That and mouse and keyboard and a bigger focus on vehicles (but not so much that it takes away from normal combat)
just no comparison between the two to me, and I\'ll be wary of BF3 feeling consolized till I actually get to play it. It\'s not a coincidence that crysis 1 is completely different from crysis 2 and the second one is the one put on consoles..and thats just the most recent example (rainbow six, ghost recon to name a few more)
edit: I shouldve watched that video first..that was fucking amazing
I still wish they\'d do a commander. It was a game within a game...and the game was like an RTS but with actual people you were telling what to do and helping out instead of AI
-
yeah, commander mode was awesome... putting a uav here, an airstrike there.. it was great. I didn\'t play it a ton, but when you had a good commander it made things much easier for the whole team.
Jets looked slow, but in a way they probably have to make them slower and fly somewhat low or they would utterly dominate ground forces. People are complaning about it, but I trust DICE to hopefully make it fairly balanced.
Debating now on what GPU to upgrade to. I have a 6870 but I\'m thinking a 6970 will run it 60+ fps at all times. You building a new computer viper?

yea, im not totally sure where to start outside of googling "how to build a computer" lol. Havent really thought about building a computer for like 5 years..i\'ve upgraded my cpu and graphics card between now and then, but they were just patch-jobs.
it\'s hard to ask my brother for input since he spends an arm and a leg on everything. his frame of mind is "well, if im going to spend 1500 dollars, i might as well spend 2200 dollars"
hopefully I\'ll get the ambition to do proper research soon. Still have a good amount of time though since it\'s probably still too early to get a pc for bf3
-
any thoughts on the beta? wont be able to play it till tomorrow. I\'m not sure if the console beta comes out then, too.
I havent bought the bullet yet on the pc..playing it on this computer might speed up the process
-
played operation metro yesterday for a few hours... ok map.. not that great.. fell through the ground a lot, but today some select beta testers leaked the password for the caspian border 64 player servers.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT IT\'S AWESOME I played it for about 2 hours straight tonight and only stopped because I have to go to bed lol
Seriously it\'s like a totally different game.. map is massive... graphics look even better.. jets, helis. tanks, jeeps, atv\'s.. you name it. Runs better than metro does too. Word is Caspian Border will unlock tomorrow (Sept. 29th) for the open beta. I sure hope so, I can see why people were upset at the shitty Operation Metro map.

I downloaded the beta on pc, but I have yet to really play it. for some reason, I can\'t join matches via the "quick method" and practically all the servers I tried to join, they all claimed to either be full, even when they weren\'t, or they were in the middle of changing maps
-
unfortunately the game doesnt support XP so I couldnt test it on pc..not that it wouldve went well since my cpu is ass and my graphics card is a 8800gt
But i played 3 rounds for an hour or so on 360
fucking great game. I heard a lot of complaints about metro but i had a lot of fun playing it. Cant even imagine adding the usual battlefield epic-scaleness on top of it.
Even though i loved it on console, it convinced me to get the pc. I\'m not missing an ounce of scale from this game. Still miffed they got rid of the commander since it was a big thing that separated battlefield from the other shooters..and a few other things like not needing to reload in jets since you get unlimited ammo (so i\'ve heard).
But..the game didnt disappoint, even with my high expectations and a map that noone likes
-
Actually last night I had a really good run in Operation Metro. So my feelings towards the map have changed a bit.
I\'m very excited to see the other 7 maps... if Caspian is any indication of what\'s to come, we are in for a treat. (also really excited to play old bf2 maps again!)
-
PS3/360 versions are great, not as good looking as the PC one obviously, but very very good, smooth, can\'t wait.
-
Got my new pc and monitor yesterday and played bf3 today
holy fucking shit. Ultra looks amazing and supposedly itll only get better since they left some textures out to make the beta download not as big as it couldve been.
Games not skipping a beat running it on ultra too, which is awesome
Kind of suck at the game since other people seem to take me down in a few bullets while it takes me most of a clip.
I tend to get buyers remorse no matter how good something is, but i am so damn glad i got this thing
-
I played it for about a half an hour. I was bored. Just not my thing. It was nice looking though.

I agree with you completely, Caspian Border was awesome. Metro is a good rush map not too large. Caspian IMO plays better as a conquest map than it would for Rush.
-
Dude, are you getting it for pc? Did you get it on origin? If so I want to add you to my battlelog friends list (when it comes back online).

deus ex was keeping me busy and I wasnt dieing for bf3 right now since i was occupied

Tried playing BFBC2 a few times since the beta for BF3 died. It has been nothing but pure disappointment since :(.
