Ok, so here\'s my deal. I\'m working on starting up a portrait photography business and I\'ve given myself until the end of December to get the rest of the pieces together. The problem I ran into when I was doing work on my current laptop (which by the way is from 2005 when I first went to college) is its too fucking slow. I was going to do a fresh install of XP on it but with 32 bit architecture and the way Photoshop is released (pretty sure it can only work on 64), I decided to just buy something new.
Now my plan was to use my current laptop for a few months while I started to build up a client base to keep my initial startup costs down but ran into the snag above. Then I figured I could get a cheap laptop for like 300 but I\'m thinking it would be costlier in the long run and may be too slow for graphic editing and presentations to my clients. I have the option too to just say fuck it and invest in a decent laptop that will last me a few years.
I\'m looking but I don\'t really know where to start to get a good value pricewise while not sacrificing too much power. Anyone have any suggestions that would meet my needs? Again, I\'ll need it for photo editing and presentations in client\'s homes/places of work.

I\'m looking for PC. My desktop has Windows 7 and all my software is for windows so getting a Mac doesn\'t make sense. I went to best buy yesterday and I saw a Lenovo I like.

Shouldn\'t be hard to get a good laptop now.
Smart phones/tablets have bitten into that share quite a bit. I\'m amazed at the specs of newer ones for 400 bucks.

Very true but for my needs, a smart phone or tablet won\'t cut it, lol.

I think his point was laptops have come down in price to compete with tablets.

Oh. Gotcha :) Anyway, I\'ve been looking at Lenovos. Anyone have experience with them?

Update: Still looking for laptops. Have it narrowed down to an Asus G55. Scouring ebay for good deals. Figure get a laptop that I can get my work done on with no problems and play hard on it if I need a break editing :)

You find a laptop yet?

Yes. Definitely going with the G55. Now the problem is saving the money for it....Though I\'m hoping for a good tax return because according the the government, I\'m very very poor :) I\'m pretty sure I\'m gonna go with it brand new. Not sure how much I trust used stuff. I\'d rather spend a couple hundred dollars extra and be certain than have something that will not give me issues.
I\'m also trying to hold off a little bit because I don\'t have my portrait business launched yet and don\'t necessarily want to buy a laptop and then launch it like next year and something more powerful is out. Though at the same time, when I get a laptop, I DO NOT want Windows 8. If I wait too late then I have to buy the disk. But that\'s a minor detail I guess.
