Title: Pulling the plug on the forums
Post by: Bjorn on April 11, 2013, 12:03:29 PM
Hey guys,

Have not been here for quite some time. The psx2central.com domain name will expire end of June and I do not plan to renew it anymore. The forum will be up and running until the domain expires.

I have had quite some laughs on this forum during the years, thanks :D

It has been on borrowed time for a few years now. Will be sad to see the end but we just don\'t have the traffic any more.

For people who want to keep in touch I guess a facebook group is fine.

If anyone has a webserver and wants to keep the forum alive I might be able to dump a copy of this database (the backup script I made usually fails as the database is massive and this webserver has restrictions).

Well, it was bound to happen. It\'s been an amazing ride, from ps2 rumors to a ps4 announcement.

There\'s always the Facebook group.

I think we should thank Bjorn, our Swedish overlord for keeping this place up and running all these years. I\'ve visited this place every day since 1999, almost 14 years... it\'s amazing how long this place lasted.

How would that work? Would you need a host for the domain and a separate service to hold the database?

Honestly, I wouldn\'t mind taking over the burden of keeping the forum open.

I never liked the facebook group. It doesn\'t feel the same. I see everyone\'s names and pictures when posting and I have no idea who the fuck you guys are. Though I guess after associating you guys with your screen names and avatars, its a tough switch.

It was a bit weird with the way mm wanted no spammers/useless posts yet people complained about the lack of activity (even then).

I blame mm for being a dicktator. ;)

Didn\'t he say he was a cook or a dishwasher for some restaurant? That can make one grumpy after a long day at work.

I have no problem taking over the domain name. The only problem is I don\'t have a server to host the forum\'s backup database. Besides, I wanted to start my vision of the new incarnation of playstation central at some point so maybe its time to get the ball rolling.

How much to renew it, so that this place can stay around?  Would you be willing to sign this over to someone, BJorn? After looking at the past threads, I have a lot of memories here that I don\'t want to see disappear. I would be willing to step up and take over the domain, if possible.

Domain shouldn\'t be too much. Looked into it. Probably like 20 a year if I renew it from GoDaddy. I can take that over and willing to. I just don\'t know how having a server would work.

Not yet. I\'m trying to figure out how to switch everything from bjorn\'s server to my GoDaddy account. Bjorn seems to know how on his end but on my end I\'m learning how to do it. We\'re trying to test the forum in a newer format. I\'m new to this web stuff so I\'m learning as I go along. I\'m finding it pretty fun so far though :)

I think I may register PSX4Central and try to breath some new life into the forum. Was gonna just go with PS4Central but it is taken already. But thinking about it PSX4Central when you sound it out has kind of a ring to it so I may keep it as kind of a brand name :)

Just giving you guys an update. I set up the hosting with GoDaddy for the next year. With it, they gave me a free domain name so for the hell of it, I registered PSX4Central.com. That\'s probably going to be the new domain when the transfer is complete. I\'m still deciding if I\'m going to keep the old domain active or not.

What hole did you crawl out of? Good seeing you.

PSX4Central is registered. The plan is when the forum gets up and running, I\'m gonna do a redesign of the forums with new subforums and shit. I\'m gonna be looking to you guys for input on the layout and what to include and definitely want feedback. Its still gonna take some time to get things settled, then I\'m gonna be wanting to go full bore into this. I definitely want this ready to go by September so when the PS4 launches, we are set and ready to go and get in new members.

If anyone knows anything about search engine optimization, let me know where to begin or what to read/research. Don\'t know too much about it.

I have an idea for the original members. I want to create a subforum where only PSX2Central members will be able to see and access just so we all have a place to go and hang out like the gay old days :)

Well you have a huge database of email addresses.  Would be interesting to throw out a mass email to everyone and see who we pick back up.  I\'m sure most all email addresses are long gone, but you never know.

I was tossing around that idea. I\'ll figure out the mass email when it comes to that. A lot of the "members" are spam bots. A lot of those emails will probably go to a spam folder too. Was also thinking of deleting members with 0 posts.

I\'d delete members with less than 5 or 10.....

It\'s almost June! The END IS NEIGH!

I feel sorry for Paul. He frikken lived here. He\'s been really quiet since this announcement.
lol.  sorry, on april 26 i was wrongfully put in a mental hospital.  stayed there for 16 days.  had a mild to moderate heart attack that lasted 4 hours long after i took a medication on april 27.  i was being nice to this nurse who gave me the medication and i had a heart attack.  felt betrayed.  then i transferred to room and board and stayed there for 13 days before my mom took me back, at first as a visit then later stay home freely.

the room and board was horrible.  i got sick taken some sort of new medication.  i walked back and forth a lot, felt dizzy, and i had a fever and i threw up.  the managers there are mean.  house is small and stuffs.

so May 25 is when i stayed at my mom\'s house freely.  then  on May 31, i got tazerred by the policemen.  the policemen wanted to arrested me and put me in a mental hospital.  so i ran away when they try to handcufffed me.  i ran after my mom and the policemen taserred me.  they thought i was going to beat up my mom but i wasn\'t though.  i ran toward my mom trying to tell her i don\'t want to go to a mental hospital because i am innocent and being wrongfully accused.  the first 2 tasers were painless, i can felt the electricity but its mild.  then after i ran quit a long time.  a policemen car run toward me and passed by.  i surrender by then, but the policemen in the car didn\'t know and he taserred me with 4 needles and i felt a very strong electrocution and severe heart attacks for like 5 seconds before the policeman stop the trigger.

i got knocked down right away and said i am sorry repeatedly.  that is how strong 4 needles tasered felt like.  so, i was in the mental hospital again for 4 days then got released and they were nice enough to find me a much better room and board.  the house is bigger, i don\'t need to pay for laundry machines,  don\'t need to buy toilet papers like the other room and board.  toilet papers are free for bathroom use.  everybody seems nice here.  and its in the same city as my mom\'s house.  the drive only 10 minutes away where my mom live.  so she can come and bring me foods and stuffs.  more convenience.

finally, today i decided to log back in psx2central.com and read the whole entire threads and messages that i missed.  i did surf here back in may 25 till may 31 but didn\'t post.  and i been in this new room and board for 3 days already.  my mom brought my laptop over a couples day ago so i can use.  i lurked around but didn\'t post until today, i finally felt in the mood to post again.

sorry for the long post though.:D

Hmmm...Paul.....take it easy bro. Reading that up above gives me the impression that you\'ve got some serious (but manageable) issues. Glad to see you\'re back on the forums...:fro:

I am. Bjorn is working on bringing the database to my server. I already have PSX4Central registered. As soon as the transfer is complete, I\'d like the community\'s help in a redesign. I\'d like to get this going asap because of the potential traffic we can get, even if we\'re just a forum and not necessarily a full website.
