 Dreamcast Games On PlayStation 2?
Date: 12/11/2000

Whispers and deafening shouts on the topic of Sega selling its licenses and making games for others have been following the company for some time now. According to various reports, however, this day might be sooner rather than later. Computer and Video Games has reported that publisher Acclaim is planning to bring Crazy Taxi, 18 Wheeler, and Zombie Revenge to the PlayStation 2 sometime next year.

This arrangement was apparently made when the two sides where dealing to give Acclaim F355 Challenge outside of Japan. Of course, Crazy Taxi and Zombie Revenge are past their prime, but what else could PS2 owners be in store for?

We contacted a representative for Acclaim, but all they could say is"no comment." Neither Sony nor Sega could be contacted at the time of this writing

Heard stuff like that before....  Its just that they may develop games on both platforms.  Not a huge deal, since a lot of companies already do that and plan on doing that.

ITs all about making money..

peace

I\'m not really interested about those games. I\'d like games like Shenmue and Shenmue 2 to Playstation 2 ;)

Well, I can\'t have everything :)

And besides I can\'t complain. There\'s sO Many good games coming to PS2... too many ;)

I always said that Sega should do this... but do it right:

1. Keep the "main" franchises on the Dreamcast, give PS2 arcade ports (Crazy Taxi, 18 Wheeler, Zombie Revenge).  This gives Sega\'s franchises visibility; something they didn\'t have last generation.

2. Give the Dreamcast versions at least 6 months of exclusivity.  Don\'t launch on both system simultaneously.  By the same token, don\'t wait so long that people have lost interest (Bleemcast, Rainbow Six titles).

3. Ideally, give the DC version a few "extras".

This will accomplish two things: - keeping the Sega name visible to the gaming community, and giving Sega a money making opportunity.  Although, if Acclaim is doing it, I don\'t see Sega making that much profit.  But the visibility is a huge plus.

1-Those are minor games, real Sega franchises will never be on PS2.
2-These are just rumors, and old ones at that.
3-Animal- read #2 about 10 times. You seem to be a wealth of misinformation lately.

I gotta admit that I hope this proves true.  I\'m not overly anxious to see this cross-over, but for Christmas I am giving my younger sisters my Dreamcast and Crazy Taxi & Virtua Tennis.  Under the circumstances, I gotta admit that I\'d like to know that I can play these games down the road on my PS2.

It\'s only fair...

besides the Sega Franchises I think that developer\'s should make games for both DC and PS2.

Animal- you didnt read #2 enough times apparently. It is not anything more than a rumor. Prove me wrong.

w1ngman- That was just stupid of you.

SyxxKorn- What??? I don\'t think your post made any sense, so I can\'t agree or disagree.

Here is what I don\'t get. You would much rather wish for DC games on the PS2, then actually go out and buy a DC. How does this make sense?

And Sega is not porting anything onto the PS2. Sega held a press conference not to long ago to put that to rest. They did admit to being interested in GBA and the original PS. But, there was no set projects for that. And now they bought FamilyWonders Inc and inked a deal with Namco, so they really won\'t need the extra money from porting their franchises to another system. Not to mention, it would be shooting themselves in the foot, by porting their franchises to another system. The rumour of Aclaim porting Sega games has been going on for quite awhile. But its just that..A rumour. Until the first game is announced, don\'t believe it. And no game has been announced to be ported, and no, not even 18 Wheeler. If IGN reported it, it was pure speculation. Don\'t you think every SEGA site would of covered this? Yes, they would of. And none did. Not even non-Sega sites like CoreMagazine or GameFan.com reported this. If you want details on it all, go to SegaDome and look thru the news arhcive. There is pretty much all news related to the PS2 ports and such. Which includes the many press releases and conferences that has been held about the matter. Including the one where the president of Sega announced he had cancer, and it was mentioned they was interested in GBA development.

Now seriously, back to one other point. They inked a deal to development for Motorola\'s new mobile phone. Bought Family Wonders Inc. and inked a deal with Namco. DO you think they need to port games to the PS2? I think not.

I find it ironic, that some of you won\'t admit that MGS2 may very well be going to the Xbox.. But the first rumour comes around about DC games on the PS2 and its a "fact" despite Sega denoucning the whole ordeal. Unlike Konami, which just won\'t comment on if MGS2 is Xbox bound also.
