LOL. This seems to be apparent with their latest football game. Why are they the only people who can\'t seem to figure the PS2 out? lol. Have you seen the NCAA games? Ouch. N64 without the blurriness. Scaaaarryyy. Oh well, at least the "It\'s impossible to develop for" saying was only true this once.
P.S. Is there any way I could actually find a PS2 for Christmas?
-
Its confusing especially since they are a SOny 1st party developer.
They better have it figured out by next year or there in big trouble
-
I expected this this to get flamed, but I\'m glad its not. But, I saw GameDay2001. Ugh. Looks pretty bad. They are a 1st party developer, as Ddaryl mentioned, so I want to know why it looks so bad. I always perfered the Gameday series over the Madden, so this was natrually a shock to me. Could this be why Sony tried to keep the game hidden from alot of public knowledge?
-
Yeah, i just saw the GD2001 commercial and at first glance i thought it was the freaking PSX version. It looks that bad.
-
I was wondering why the purchased them. What have they done that is so exceptional that Sony would put so much faith in them? Do they control some importent licences? Thanks :)
-
Ps2 will die probably. It will become like the N64
-
This is really disapointing as sega and visual concepts had kicked major ass on the dreamcast.
Hopefully they will improve next year, especially with Syphon Filter :)

"989 Having problems with the PS2?" - -____-
Hmm, it seems that way. At least until you take a gander at Twisted Metal : Black. Granted, it\'s not the most visually appealing game on the PS2, but it\'s a **** of a lot better looking than their two football games. Perhaps we\'re seeing another one of Sony\'s little perks to EA in action. Make the games, but don\'t hype them and make them visually unappealing. 2 crap inhouse games = good sales for 1 GREAT looking & playing 3rd party game. *Madden*
Let\'s hope next year\'s offerings are better than this.

I wouldn\'t say that. But, I\'m amazed your going that far. You complained about it. Then loved it. Now hate it again. You got alot of mood swings man.:) Seriously though, I don\'t think it will die. I just think its having alot of problems. And 989 are really not hoping matters.

Everyone knew PS2 was tricky to develop for. Every intelligent person saw the EA announcement coming. Gameday sucking this year has been discussed. Why are some ppl jumping ship now? PS2 will do ok. Isn\'t that a sign of the apocalypse? EThugg sticking up for PS2? We\'re all doomed! :D

It won\'t die. It\'s just weeding out the wannabe\'s from the real developers (with big money). Small developers can\'t afford it. Not only that, but Gameday was pretty rushed - and looks to be a port of last years PC version. Larger, richer, more experienced developers are getting some beautiful games out of the machine. As far as Twisted Metal Black - SINGLETRAC BABY!!!! Oh, and 989 doesn\'t "develop" Gameday/Gamebreaker - they publish. Red Zone Interactive develops it.
It will be like the N64. That\'s hilarious. You do realize, there are millions of people on waiting lists - right? And you also realize that many people are spending $500 - $700 to buy the system? Like the N64? Not even close. Look, I prefer my Dreamcast because one extra year of development has given me a nice library... but not even I am crazy/bitter enough to say that a console following the 80 million + userbase of the PSX will end up like the N64. That\'s nuts.

Well, certainly some of this has to be do to hype. Once hype dies down, how will it fair? And the N64 set records for its time also. Not to mention the market was different at the time.

Damn double posting.:(
-
PlayStation 2 will do alright. As will the other next gen consoles. Because the market is much bigger now. And just because the PlayStation 2 doesn\'t have the biggest games right now, they\'ll come. It\'s an investment. I\'m not going to change my views just because of a few negative aspects right now. Because I know I\'ll get plenty of great games in the time to come. So stop bitching and start playing. ;)

However, 989 isn\'t helping Sony much right now. With 2 crappy looking games (3 if you include that college basketball game coming as well), they are an embaressment to Sony\'s first party developers which include Polyphony Digital, Studio Soho and Studio Liverpool (developers of great looking games like Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec, Getaway, and Wipeout Fusion).
Next year\'s version should be better though. I don\'t think 989 is stupid enough to think that these games will pass the next gen test with Madden 2002 coming out. Also, given that an extra month saw improvements on the college football games over Gameday gameplay debochals, I believe these games were simply rushed. These games seemed to come out of nowhere, and boom, released the next month or so. Give it time, it could be up to par with Madden. As it stands, pure crap.
-
IMHO, next years football choices won\'t be made on the graphical achievements or shortcomings of the 2 games as much as it will be on which type of gameplay you like. Plus with the ability to download college football players to your mem card for draft on game day....hmmmmm tough choice

As far as anyone is concerned, the N64 was a milestone in the video game business, and still has great games destined for glory. As for your theory of PS2 turning out like N64, we\'ll maybe your right.
-
N64 was the finest multiplayer system ever made.
And the N64 set records for its time also
Yes. PS2 like the N64? N64 set records, then died after hype slowed down. Know why? NO GAMES. Damn, guys. It had maybe 5 launch titles. Then, the cartridges caused LONG waits between titles. Not only that, but very few genre\'s were covered. Not only that again, but fighting and sports were completely missing! As were RPG\'s! A big no-no in America and Japan. N64 survived on pure hype and Mario at first. This is NOT the case with the PS2. There are already close to 40 games for the machine - many sports, many fighting, many RPG\'s. PS2 is not like N64. Not remotely close.
Add to that a PSX which had a one year headstart on the N64, and it\'s easily understandable why the big N struggled. What\'s the PSX of this generation? Hmmm? There is no way ANYTHING this generation is like last generation. PS2 = N64? Not even close.

Hey Ktulu,
you said that with just the right words.
There\'s ppl saying Sony will fail like Nintendo
did last time : according to that theory :
Nes= succes, SNES= succes, N64= less succes.
then
PSX= succes, PS2= succes, PS3= less succes.
So it would turn out allright for PS2 after all.
;But this is not a valid theory at all \'cause
times have changed once more.
