DR: Now that EA is on board, and it has such a close relationship with Square, can we expect an Xbox/Square announcement in the near future?
JA: Yeah, you should. We\'re not done announcing our development partners. This announcement further cements the fact that the world\'s best developers are flocking to the Xbox, and that they think the technical and business strategies are right on and have a lot of confidence in our ability to pull this thing off. And frankly, our confidence grows every day when we get great partners like this on board.
Microsoft is stopping at nothing. If this continues we may have only one console to choose from. :(
Microsoft took control of the computer industry, now it seems thay want to control the console industry.
Imagine how great GUI\'s would be if there had been ten companies competing equally over the past 10 years.
On the flipside, imagine how pathetic the console industry would be if over the past ten years Nintendo was the only company around for consoles. Not that I dislike Nintendo, my point is that if this were the case, Nintendo would probably get lazy.
If Microsoft gains control over the consoles then expect the next ten years to be slow technologically. Also be prepared for your console to crash continuously with updates every month or so(amongsst other problems).
In case you couldn\'t tell I HATE Microsoft(esp Bill Gates).
These are my thoughts. Anyone want to add something?

Man I\'m sick and tired of people MS Xbox paranoia and other lame ass thoughts.
Under zero circumstances will MS dominate the console Industry.
In fact MS is very very good for the videogame industry.
They have only aquired Bungie Digital Anvil and Oddworld, no big losses
they have 150 developers making games, The PS2 has more than 200
EA has agreed to develope for them but they are not stopping development for the PS2 same with Konami
So will you paranoid and delusional Sony fans, or whatever fan you are get a friggin grip already.
Or better yet at least try an Xbox before you right it off. It may turn out to be awesome, and if it is are you really going to deny yourself that experience.

MS dominating the industry like the OS market will not happen. The market has already been established and they are late comers in it. Not to mention there is other choices and good ones that have been established their own core fanbase. Sega, Sony, Nintendo all have fans. MS is coming in with none.
Then take in account MS can\'t buy every developer and won\'t buy every developer. And just because a bunch of companies are signed doesn\'t mean they\'ll develop. The 3D0 had a bunch of signed companies, few developed for it.
Don\'t be so paranoid people. They\'ve bought a few small companies out, like any other console developer. They\'re signing third partys. Common practice.
-
why did dev\'s not make games for the 3do anyway?
-
Money is power. MS have ALOT of money.
People though MS wouldn\'t rule the OS market.
What do u think now hmm?
Anything can happen. People can say MS won\'t buy off all the companys.. They don\'t have too. They just need them too develope for Xbox or buy off enough developers to get the mainstream gamers too shift too xbox. Then they can make developers (if they own them) stop developering on other systems.. if they OWN the companys. They don\'t have too develope for other consoles. This doesn\'t have too be done in under 5 years. This could be done VERY SLOWLY so people wouldn\'t notice as much.
Then in the end.. MS rules the Console market too.

Plus Microsoft isn\'t really adding anything new the industry. They\'re bring PC ports to "console" gamers. Umm... *yay?*
Wait, wait... aren\'t PC\'s good for playing PC games and Console games good for playing......
I think you get the picture.

Well, Chorno, limited userbase being the number 1 reason. The 3D0 wasn\'t a great seller, but still..
Anyways...
MS would have to buy huge developers and kill the other companies. A company like Sony won\'t back down. Sega would be the first to go, as they aren\'t making enough money right now, and I love Sega, so it hurts me to say that. Nintendo, keeps shooting itself in the foot by limiting its fanbase. Sure, a few mature titles here and there, but not near enough. I wouldn\'t be suprised if it ends up with MS against Sony for along time (even after this "console war"). I don\'t see either company backing down from the other, and both will use "questionable" tactics to be the biggest and the best. But, I don\'t believe in any way MS will dominate the console market.

MS is not bring PC ports to Xbox, yes there are some, but guess what there are PC ports on DC and PS2 too. MS is concentrating on exclusive games and new content developed especially for Xbox. They\'ve said this 100 x\'s and they know a PC port box would fail miserably. MS is not stupid
Some of you are extremly uneducated about other systems, please take the time to be educated.

Who do you think will win the next-next Gen console wars??
PS3 Vs Xbox2??

I beleave Sony will be at the top.. Maybe with MS, Maybe not. But they say that Sony\'s PS2 has more Fan Support then PSX.. That\'s Over 75 million people. With 300 developers and all the fans.. Sony can\'t go wrong. :D

Oh really? I\'ve been playing Consoles since I got my Atari 7800 for my 7th birthday. I think I\'m pretty "educated" with the consoles. Sure, XBox will release some new material on its machine, but with the way Microsoft is setting it up, its a mini-computer. That much I\'m sure you know.
Also, all these companies trying to get online is a farce. Sega is limited by its narrow-band, Sony will get DSL goin probably in 2002, Xbox will be cable/DSL hybrid in 2002 as well, and Nintendo... why do they keep trying?
I see the trend of developers is to make money. If you don\'t understand that, then you don\'t understand the industry. Every company is going to want to make the most money, cross-developing isn\'t a bad thing, it does spark some good competition between companies, but the problem I forsee is that we\'ll see A LOT more "Special Edition" releases.
So I hope this shows you that some of us our "educated"

Now..Now, they could go wrong. But, I doubt they do. E3..Now that will be interesting. I want to see what Sony will have out, and if MS comes out showing everything.

Whoa crap!
I didn\'t even THINK of this years E3. Dang, Everyone is going to be bidding for #1 spot in magazines, online and everything else.
I think its fair enough to say though its going to be Sony Vs Microsoft.

Your a fool to think Nintendo won\'t be showing off GC capabilities with some fine titles

Even though Final Fantasy X will also be on X-Box, Square\'s main focus will be on the PS2...

Nintendo??

Um, no. I\'m not sure what you\'re referring to here... Microsoft was the only OS in town. Gates bought a OS and renamed it MS DOS for IBM. His family had connections and gave him the shot with IBM (he was like 18 or 19 at the time). IBM offered, really, the biggest home/office PC at the time. Microsoft\'s exposure was huge. Then Gates went to work with Apple; saw the MacIntosh\'s environment. Warned Apple that they should license it, but Steve Jobs was more concerned about the hardware. Bing bang boom, Windows is invented. Next thing you know, every home PC has windows. Then IBM develops OS2 and tries to run Microsoft out of bidness. By the time, Windows had a strong foothold. Another bing, another bang, another boom - OS2 "goes away".
Nobody ever thought MS wouldn\'t rule the OS market. Microsoft has BEEN the OS market since the beginning. Microsoft was the FIRST in the OS market; before that it was just a bunch of hobbyists sharing software. Microsoft was the first to license and charge for it. They\'ve ALWAYS owned the OS market - nobody\'s ever competed with them (\'cept OS2 and Linux, but they were too late). Imagine Nintendo releasing the first ever videogame console, and then other companies trying to compete with them 8 generations later. That\'s Microsoft in the OS market. This is different. They are the ones coming in like OS2 or Linux. Fortunately, there is no "dictator" game console, so it\'s still a legitimate competition. Plus the mercenary developers are a wildcard. But no, they won\'t dominate like they did with OS - they dominated because they were alone, and the first. And no, they won\'t dominate like the PSX did - it dominated because it\'s competition made costly mistakes. Nor will Microsoft fail.

Microsoft wasn\'t in the OS business at the very beginnig. Bill Gates and Paul Allen wrote the first personal computer language (BASIC) on the Altair. It wasn\'t until IBM decided to enter the market in 1980 with the Acorn that MS became involved. IBM intitially offered it to MS but MS told them that they were primarily a language driven company so they directed them to Gary Kindall, the developer of QDOS. Gary (or whomever was at the office that day) turned IBM away without realizing who it was when the suits arrived. Gary Kindall lost the opportunity of a life time. IBM went back to MS, and Bill and Paul weren\'t going to drop the ball like Gary did so they went and bought the rights to QDOS from SCP for $50,000, renamed it MS-DOS and sold it to IBM.
It was IBM\'s open architecture design of their machine and the reverse engineering of Compaq in \'84 that lead to the advent of the clone and the rise of Microsoft. Companies bought huge numbers of PCs because of IBM\'s name alone and now people where able to buy the same computers that they used at the office without having to pay IBM\'s outlandish prices.
I\'m not sure why you think that the Mac OS wasn\'t copywrited but it was, and Apple didn\'t invent the GUI anymore than MS did. Also, Microsoft wrote and sold OS2 to IBM.

Sony remembers that million dollar Final Fantasy movie too.

What\'s good about MS buying a few small developers to gain some exclusive titles? Nothing!

I thought FFXI was also coming to X-box but FFX was PS2-exclusive.
Was it that way or was it not?
It\'s still too early to say wich will win the console war; we just try to think about it with "logic". But we\'re not fore-see\'ers are we?
Strong bets are on Sony and MS ( and yes MS has fans.. but in PC-side. But many PC-gamers will probaply buy X-box over Sony... ), but they\'re only "bets".
Heh, I know you know all this; but take this as a reminder.
Happy Day.
