Title: Bent iPhone 6 anybody?
Post by: Titan on September 24, 2014, 02:39:19 PM
My dislike of Apple is common knowledge. So when I heard about this today and saw the pictures, I laughed my ass off. How can Apple being such a "revolutionary" company design a phone that bends in your pocket? How could this have gotten past quality assurance? I'm sure they tested its durability in many different scenarios. Guess they overlooked the idea that people keep these in their pockets or no one at Apple even had it in their pocket at any point. I can just imagine the look of disappointment for people who waited 12 hours in line to get one just to have it bend 2 days later.  :D

The new iPhone 6 Plus is thinner and larger than its predecessors, but some users have also discovered the devices have an unexpected design flaw -- the new phones apparently bend under pressure, CNET reports. The phenomenon has been widely reported on the Internet and has already been dubbed "Bend-gate."

A number of users have said their phones bent after being carried around in their pocket for long periods of time.

In this video posted on YouTube, a reviewer demonstrates just how easy it is to bend an iPhone 6 Plus, which has a relatively pliable aluminum casing:

Some users have shared their "bending" issues on the MacRumors forums. One member described his experience with the iPhone 6 Plus in the following post:

"I received my iPhone 6 Plus 64GB spacegray at about 3pm on Friday and set it up, but haven't worn it out that day, so it wasn't in my pocket. Yesterday, I left at 10am with the iPhone in my left FRONT pocket of my suit pants. I drove 4 hours to a wedding, which also involved a lot of sitting during dinner etc but also 2-3 hours of dancing. I left at 2am and went to bed, driving home 4 hours back. So in total, the 6 Plus was about 18 hours in my pocket while sitting mostly. As I lay it on the coffee table and sat down on the couch to relax from the drive (yes, sitting again), I saw the reflection of the window in the iPhones slightly distorted. Now I lay it flat with the display side on the table, take a look. Maybe at 5.5" it is too thin?"

Only a handful of 6+ have been bent. And you have to really really try hard to bend it. But because it's Apple, it gets a lot of press. It's not the first phone to get bent but it didn't make the news coz it's not an Apple product.

Everyone has an Apple-like device, so I don't get the hate people have for Apple. "I HATE APPLE! SO I BOUGHT ONCE JUST LIKE IT BUT IT'S NOT APPLE! I'M NOT A SHEEP! I'M A COW!"

I mean, there are only so many ways to design the look of a phone. Not like you can make it a circle or an octagon. They've always been historically some kind of rectanglish shape, unless you go back to the old days :)

I'm talking about the user interface. All other smartphones had qwerty keyboards and then Apple comes in with their first attempt and reinvents the smartphones. Next thing you know, everyone follows Apple.

I'm enjoying my iPhone 6. The 6+ is just a tad too big. Haven't had any bendy problems yet.
