Yepp.
I heard it on the radio last night (when I couldn’t sleep). They said that Microsoft was loosing money. About 5-6% of there income. And they are expecting to loose some more. :D
That’s allot of money!

Sony\'s losing money too. Hell, they\'re losing over $100 on each PS2. You have to spend money to make money - especially if you\'re a newcomer to a marketplace. Microsoft is pouring resources into the XBox, but the XBox isn\'t providing returns.

This is an article I saw on Marketwatch.com

Things are looking bad, but they are looking bad across the board..!!

Well considering that Sony is a $50 billion dollar company and M$ is a $300+ billion dollar company, they can afford to lose money, and then some. :)
-
Sony is about a $159 billion company. Microsoft\'s net worth dropped by ALOT during the antitrust trial. It\'s worth about 300 billion. cysco systems is worth $550 billion, and General Motors (they make WebTV also) they are worth around 400 billion. Microsoft is bleeding cash. they are collapsing under their own size.

Apoclapse Now, Mind over Matter..
I agree, down with MS. I don\'t really care. I have been working with computer systems most of my life, and they have pissed me off time and time again.
YEAH
well ok then

Launching a new console is a heard thing to do. Sony reported a 200 million dollar loss last QUARTER alone. THat is still more than what Sega has lost in it\'s last 4 years of loss.
They can afford it though, as can Microsoft. Which, sadly, gives them an advantage from the start. With it was a level playing field, but oh well.

AlteredBeast... don\'t tell me your blaming this on the x-box
they lost money beacuase of windows blowme (sorry if anybody is offended)
the most horrible OS, even worse then Win98...
And also beacuse of MSN and many other areas they are not doing well in....
I say its about time :)

The recent Microsoft losses isn\'t really an effect of Xbox development. It\'s more of a slowdown in the PC market due to lackluster products (WindowsME) and consumer unconfidence (Lack of a better word) due to the news of an economic slowdown. Apple, Sun, Microsoft, and Oracle have all reported that they\'re not going to meet earnings projections. This is also the first time it\'s happened to Microsoft since 1988 I believe.
BTW, that 200 million dollar loss Sony reported a few months back also had little to do with the PS2, but more a slowdown at theater box offices. Sony/Columbia/TriStar put out a LOT of movies this summer.. not to mention that Sony owns several theater chains.

I talked to Nathan lastnight and we had a nice debate on Win ME and I have to agree with him. Its one of the worse products put out, period. They are loosing money on it, no doubt. Critics tore it apart, and no one really rushed out to buy it. Take in account also, launching a console is hard, like Alerted said.

Consoles, computers, and anything Internet related is all losing money and fast, its just how the economy and the rest of the world is going...

Where have you guys been? Living in a cave again? Microsoft isn\'t the only one, they are one of many, everyone is losing money, anything to do with technology and Internet is losing money fast. Consoles/Computers/Internet/etc... All losing money fast. Microsoft is a big company so it gets picked on a lot, wait until new Sony figures are out and you will see them bleed worse than what they are doing now, we are going into a recession boys and you better hang on....

Not everyone is loosing money. A compony in Kyoto Japan is still turning up nice profits. In fact their stock price just went up 5% in a day after they announced that they plan on selling 24 million units of a certain portable system in the first year it is out.
Still, most componies have losses at the launch of their new major consoles. It\'s just the way things are. If you buy a system that will cost you 300 plus a memcard and possably another controller you don\'t have much left over for games. Since most sell their consoles at a loss they end up haveing to take the losses until production becomes cheaper, and people begin buying more games.
WinME sucks. The thing runs SLOW. I am waiting for win 2000 consumer version before upgradeing. Microsoft needs to make some large changes to their OS. If they aren\'t careful they will get blown over, every other major OS maker has changed their OS in some major form or another and Microsoft has become more obsoliete then before. I know someone who has OSX beta and it is more stable then win 98 is. (sad really)

Sony is considerably larger than Microsoft , where the hell do you guys get you info from.
Sony is #30 on the global 500
http://www.fortune.com/fortune/global500/csnap/0,5948,CM|6640,00.html
and Microsoft is #216
http://www.fortune.com/fortune/global500/csnap/0,5948,CM|3063,00.html
Now MS does make more in profits but SOny has quite a bit more in assets, SOny also has less stockholder shares out compared to MS.
Sony profits have dropped since 1998 while MS has risen but SOny\'s huge investment in the PS2 is the major reason why, and with MS losing some ground in the PC market slowing software sales and there investment in Xbox it\'ll turn out to be a wash.
Both companmies are big with roots planted deep. Both companies have tremendous resources to see there products through.

In one of my issues of Next Generation Mag, there\'s an interview with a Sony developer for the PS2. He himself states that Sony is "a $50 billion company."
My uncle who is heavily into stock trading and quit his dentist profession due to his successes on ameritrade told me that MS is worth about $300 billion.
By all means not saying these sources are 100% correct, you just asked where I got my info from. :)

Well, it\'s generally looking bad for most IT companies right now. Microsoft have lost 50% of their stock value over the last couple of years.
