Rockstar has had a runaway success with Grand Theft Auto V. The game set records when it launched in September 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The next generation versions of the game for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One has helped the game hit a new milestone.
Grand Theft Auto V has sold more than 40 million units worldwide, as of the week ending December 20, according to VGChartz. The game has sold 40.56 million units. The game has sold 16.97 million units in the US and 15.68 million units in Europe.
The PlayStation 3 version accounts for nearly half of the all the sales. The game has sold 19.24 million units worldwide on the PlayStation 3. The Xbox 360 version has sold 17.79 million units. The PlayStation 4 version has sold 4.73 million units, while the Xbox One version has sold 1.81 million units.

Incredible. That hasn't counted to the soon to be release PC version.

It's impressive...i wish i was into the GTA series...i only really ever bought san adreas because everybody kept talking about it. I played and beat it once, but i never had the urge to replay it again. i hear alot of good things about GTA5 too as well.
It'll be pretty hard to top this last game though which seems to be still selling strong numbers even today...

If it's one thing I can give Rockstar with GTA is that consistently, the subsequent releases always do better than their previous release. They have a lot of talent (and money, lol) there and they aren't afraid to push it. I'm sure GTA6 is going to be a fantastic game. They know they have big shoes to fill in the next one and with the power of next gen consoles, they are defnitely going to push it.
