Title: Windows 10. Anyone get it?
Post by: Titan on August 15, 2015, 06:21:51 AM
I've been seeing good things on the internet, minus a couple of bugs. But I keep having this dumb bubble pop up in my task bar about my free upgrade. I'm reluctant because I just finally got Windows 7 updated from my hard drive failure. But seeing videos it looks really intuitive. So, anyone have it? Thoughts? Anyone not have it and just want to discuss?

i just upgrade my brother's laptop's windows 8.1 to windows 10 last week.  so far it works great.  a lot better than windows 8.  a lot more user friendly and pretty much everything else is better than windows 8.  Not only that but its also better than windows 7 in many ways too.  i guess if you want to use and take advantage of directx 12, you have to upgrade to windows 10 which is cool.

unfortunately on my laptop which has windows 7 in it, i was unable to upgrade to windows 10.  when i click on the windows icon on my taskbar to upgrade to windows 10, i got a message saying that "this pc is unable to run windows 10".  it said "compatibility issue: The BIOS isn't supported."  strange.

I suppose the repairman that replaced my laptop's screen last October tampered with my laptop's BIOS which makes it unable to run windows 10.  That sucks. :(

I upgraded it a while back. It's very similar to Windows 7 really but my laptop loads much faster. I haven't had any problems or incompatibilities at all.

That's possible. I had my computer serviced (though it ended up being some messed up settings in my BIOS), they upgraded to the latest version for me. They may have had to change the BIOS if they needed to change settings for the screen. Though, admittedly, I have no idea how that works. Only other thing I can think of Paul is if your computer is too old or if your computer is 32 bit and not 64 bit. Not sure if there's a 32 bit version of 10.

that is what i thought too, after i upgraded my brother's laptop from windows 8 to 10, pretty much everything seems to load a bit faster.

unfortunately, my brother's laptop is really infected with viruses that opening some window pages slow it down a lot.  when i opened a website that is texts and pictures heavy, the page stutters a lot when i scrolled it.

anyway, do you guys think its possible to format the hdd and do a clean windows 10 installation?  kind of like windows 10 recovery.

you mean if i bring this laptop of mine to that repairman, he will upgrade to the latest windows 10 for me?  I am pretty sure my windows 7 laptop is a 64 bit architecture because my brother bought it for me back in Sept 2011.  this laptop its a 2nd generation intel i5 so i am very sure its a 64 bit architecture.

i just check my system properties and it said "System type:  64-bits operating system."  so, its a 64-bit OS then.

There you go. All new processors are 64. It's weird your BIOS is stopping you from upgrading. You Google the problem? The repair shop should be able to do it either way but if you can figure it out, no sense in paying someone something you can do for free.

if the repair shop can correct the bios, do you think he will do it for free?  I am not sure what to google to correct the problem and i am not sure if i can correct it though...

Honestly, i can't speak for the repair shop. I'd assume they'd charge you for labor even though the update is free. Maybe try searching for your laptop model with BIOS and Windows 10 in the keywords and seeing if anything pops up.

no.

as for a bios update. If your laptop is old i doubt there would even be a bios update that can fix your problem. Personally i think it's strange that bios would even affect a O/S from installing, more than likely you're trying to install a 64bit O/S on a 32Bit cpu based laptop.

I have windows 10 on 2 pcs, both run great. My gaming rig has improved a fair amount from windows10. Thanks to the Directx update. :)

no soulgrind, my middle brother bought this laptop for me back in september 2011 and its a 2nd generation intel i5 cpu.  i remember the day i got the laptop, i check the system properties and its said windows 7 64 bit operating system.

i just checked it again and it still said system type:  64 bits operating system.   not only that but under windows, it said windows 7 home premium.  So, its not a 32 bit laptop.  i doubt there are any laptops that were made in 2011 that uses the older 32 bit cpus.

speaking of which, its been 4 years since my middle bought this laptop for me. so my laptop is 4 years old this month.

btw soulgrind, if you can, can you visit your birthday thread that i made for you 4 months ago and chime in?

saw the bday thread.. thanks.

try this link https://www.infopackets.com/news/9619/how-fix-cpu-not-compatible-windows-10-error it may not be about bios problems but it may have something in there that may help, read the comments and other links within that page. It should hopefully put you in some kind of correct direction for help.

i just read through that link you posted and tried the suggestions like the link said such as check the patch for windows 7.  The patch is already there and had been updated automatically from microsoft.  i even download a program called cpu-z and run it and it supports all 3 SSE2, EM64T and VT-x instructions set.  The last thing i tried was reboot my laptop and went into bios and look for nx setting.  couldn't really find the nx setting or any of those multiple names like the link suggested.  so i just gave up and quit.

I don't like the tiles of Windows 10. In fact, I hate it. Needlessly causing me to scroll to get to what I want. Glad it wasn't my computer. I'll stick to Windows 7.

i guess its not a bad idea that i am still using windows 7 since my laptop has trouble upgrading to windows 10.  cool.

What tiles are you talking about? The ones on the Start Menu? These are the only ones I have because I unpinned all the useless bullshit. If I click on All Apps, it brings up my programs like on previous Windows.

That thing took up half your screen! Hellz no!

It's not half. It's a third at the most! But yeah. That is probably the only thing about Windows 10 I don't like. I'd like to get rid of that tile section.
