The official number is now 350 developers, of those 350, some are 3rd parties, some are 2nd parties, and some are 1st parties...
Now that Sony has new kits, the question is now will Sony replace 989, and move them to other projects...
There are over 100 1st party developers for Sony, and they could easily be replaced since almost every developer Sony has will be on a evenly level field because of the new kits. I believe of those 350 developers, there is some studio that can match the likes of EA, Square, or even Visual Concepts.
989, it looks like Sony may be eyeing another Gameday developer for next year.
By the way, those 350 developers will be developing Japanese games and US games, great move by Sony. So that means Japanese developers will be sending some games to the US.
Could we see Pseudo replacing 989 Studios. Pseudo is a small developer that Sony made apart of there studios last year, they have never made a game before, but was made to be put on stand by until they were ready to be used. Now that Sony wants all developers to make games Pseudo is the candidate to replace 989, if Sony were to move 989 to different agendas.(Source Gamespot TV on Techtv September of 2000 edition)

989 should be replaced by somebody else...ANYBODY ELSE!! Gameday for the PS2 was a travesty and should never have seen the light of day.

Amen to that

The syphon filter series is worthy, and I can\'t wait till Syphon Filter 3! Naughty Dog has something great up there sleeves. Sony bought Psognosis or whatever in anticipation of there great titles, but they aren\'t so good... I think that Sony should buy Tecmo, or something along those lines.

Is dark cloud a first party title? that might be the "Diamond in the rough" Since is looks amazing. Shiny/Interplay got the rights to the matrix! (the Wachowski brothers are Ps2 supporters, Anime fans, and their friend will be directing/desinging the game) I\'m glad EA didn\'t get the rights. Sony should buy Shiny. They aren\'t that big.

I watched Planet of the Apes the other day... That movie was weird... And funny...

If they can buy 78 companies in a years time to add to there 350 developer list than can buy that company. But who knows they may be part of the 350 developer list Sony has now.
If they don\'t it would then be 351.

It\'s develop by Level Five and produce by Sony, and Level Five is part of the 350 developers for Sony, they are a 1st party developer.

They are unknown, that have been with Sony since the beginning and never have been used, until this year.

IGN had a link of all 350 developers last year. That\'s how we come to find about them, and the President of Sony announced 300 plus developers on Gamepsot TV on Tech TV.
-
And 100 of them were first party developers. Okay, I think Ive heard enough.

Just watch July\'s Gamespot TV on Techtv it will confirm my info. Although he didn\'t mention 100 developers being 1st party developer, but he did say they had many 1st party developers.

I don\'t like the Syphon Filter series either, so pretty much I detest 989. Sony needs to replace them fast.
As for 100 first party developers? That seems quite a bit high.
-
Syphon Filter was a really cool game IMO.
I don\'t think Sony has 100 1st party developers though. I wouldn\'t have heard of the 90 or so, in that case.

I always thought that 989 was a good PS1 developer. Siphon Filter 1 and 2 rocked, Gameday (until last year) was always fresh and innovative and Jet Moto always brought a smile to my face. Here\'s where things get ugly though...
In my opinion any company\'s 1st party titles SHOULD BE absolutely stellar work for their consoles. After all, if your own company cannot make a good looking/playing game for their own system what does that say to the rest of the gaming community. Gameday for the PS2 SHOULD HAVE totally blown Madden out of the water or it should have never been released. Now we have Gamebreaker and Final Four coming out. Two more pieces of **** from 989. Hey, if they are not capable of handling the PS2 and making true showcase titles they should stick to the PS1 or Sony should sell them off and get in a developer that can make their new console look like the powerhouse they say it is.
I am really starting to believe that Sony is not taking the PS2 or this round of console wars as seriously as it took their initial entry into the market over 6 years ago. They better get on the ball or they are going to get their asses kicked by Nintendo, M$ and Sega. They almost appear to be asleep at the wheel.
Anyway, enough of my ranting. Bottom line: 989 - deliver some HIGH quality titles or pack your sorry asses up and get the hell out of console game developing.
