Title: My woodworking and my Instagram
Post by: Titan on June 29, 2019, 06:31:52 AM
I haven't divulged a lot about what's been going on in my personal life but here's what I've been up to for a while. As you know I've bought my own place. What I haven't really said is I've built a lot of furniture for my condo. Things so far is my shelves in my living room, a shelf rehab in my kitchen, a floating shelf in my bedroom and my bed. Future projects include  a kegerator, a nightstand and a cabinet for my beer glasses. I've gotten really into this and am working on starting a side hustle to build beer and wine related products to sell at craft shows. I got the idea when I built a beer caddy for my homebrewed beer. I've also started an Instagram so if anyone wants to keep up  to date on my projects, follow me at shedside_woodworks.

As for future projects, I've got on the immediate list a dice tray for my Dungeons and Dragons games, a night stand, a desktop zen garden for my girlfriend and a beer glass cabinet.

And attached are some samples of some latest projects starting with the bed. I did the bed in 3 stages. It started as a platform bed since I've always liked them. Then I built the headboard a year later then finally the legs after when I realized I needed the storage space.

Here are a couple more. One is the beer caddy I built. Another are the shelves.

The caddy can fit 6 bottles. I made it out of oak. I decided against staining it because I was so infatuated with the wood as it was. So I just sprayed on a protective poly coat to protect the wood and it's served me well for many parties..

The shelves were simple. I took 2x8 (or was it 2x10 boards?) and used my router to cut in an edge. I then bought plumbing flanges, nipples (heh) and caps. I spray painted those with hammered steel spray paint and attached them to my wall with drywall anchors. Below that is a behind the couch shelf I built as well. Note on the shelf the old PS2. That was my launch model I used to complain about the DREs. I held onto it all these years and now it's a great decorative piece :)

And finally, this is what I'm working on now. It may look like a bench or a coffee table (and quite honestly, it can probably be used as a small bench but I didn't reinforce the dowels widthwise) but this isn't. My entrance is a mess of shoes. This is a shoe stand. This picture is a work in progress from last night. It's glued and clamped. All I have to do now is stain and add the protective poly finish. I'll probably do that Wednesday night after work when I can get to my shop. I have a family reunion today and seeing my girlfriend the rest of the weekend so I won't be able to get in today :(

Hobbyist woodworker mostly. But my plan is to do this as a side hustle and hopefully sell some work at craftshows. I think making beer and wine related pieces will sell. Especially in my area. Go to a ritzy area, people will buy my wine caddies and such. In a more blue collar area, the beer stuff will sell. And who knows. This may really take off and I can do woodworking full time. One can hope :)

Thanks clips! I have another project mostly done. I'm just waiting for the hardware to come in. I'll try to post pics on Wednesday after I put it on.
