The European launch of Microsoft\'s next-generation console slips into 2002.
Microsoft revealed today that it has delayed the European launch of its Xbox console. The launch was originally planned for fall 2001 to coincide with the console\'s North American release, but now it has been rescheduled to sometime in early 2002. According to Microsoft, the delay is a result of the company\'s desire to assure a strong supply of Xbox console for the North American launch. Microsoft hopes to avoid the supply problems currently being faced by Sony and its PlayStation 2 console.
"The demand for Xbox is so high that we have revised our forecasts and we feel that we can ship many more units this way," Sandy Duncan, the man in charge of the European Xbox launch, told British trade paper MCV. "We were always going to build a factory in Europe, but we have brought it forward slightly."
As a result of the delayed European launch, North American consumers can look forward to adequate supply when the console launches here.
