Microsoft will offer DVD playback as an option with the Xbox, McCann said. Buyers who want to use the console to play movies will buy an expansion pack that will include a remote control and the CineMaster software, which has special effects and audio/video processing quality comparable to that of a high-end set-top DVD player.
"We\'ve studied the PlayStation 2 from a couple of perspectives to understand what consumers liked about it and what they didn\'t," McCann said. "One of the things we saw was that people using it to play DVDs were underwhelmed with both the quality and the user interface.
"Microsoft decided to make DVD an option and to really make it work for people who want that functionality."

so looks like the mighty xbox won\'t even play movies out of the box......by the time xbox comes PS2 will be atleast either 250 or 200 and so will xbox but PS2 will have BUILT-IN dvd playback which will get more people to but it.....
does\'nt look good for MS does it guys?:D

this has got to be THE stupidest mistake MS makes(but i like it:D) EVERY SINGLE BIG NAME DEVELOPER ON PS2 said that one if not the only reson why they supported PS2 so much was because the DVD playback(built-in on PS2) was going to get it sold way more to casual people....now that MS does not have this...well we might as well say xbox is DOA.
-
If this is true, I\'m glad it happened. This\'ll lower the price of the Xbox. And by the time it comes out, I\'m sure plenty of people will already have a regular DVD player or a PS2 by then. The Xbox will have to rely heavily on its games, if this is true.
-
if it comes down to only games then NINTENDO will win that war...NOTHING good can come of this.
-
sweeet!!!!! x box isnt as good as expected!!!! cant wait to tell the flamers... hehe..

We\'ll see about the games.
Like I said, the DVD player is kind of unnecessary since a lot of people will already have a normal DVD player or Playstation 2.
And I dont see how this would make or break the Xbox. You\'re jumping to conclusions, Nplayer. :)
-

I agree.
I think this is a smart move by MS in my opinion. It will lower the price down dramatically(maybe even down to 200-250)and people will most likely have a DVD player by then,so whats your point N-Player?I don\'t see how this could hurt the ****-box at all.It might be some what beneficial.
-
Why don\'t they just give the software too people.. If the hardware is there. It won\'t make any difference.

Yeah, then how will it lower the price?

Good point..

by the time xbox comes PS2 will:
1)have built-in dvd playback
2)HUGE HUGE library of games
3)cost 200$
4)2nd gen graphics(MGS2)
don\'t forget about mario either....
xbox will be IMO DOA in japan and europe...
also, it\'s VERY funny to see the xboxfans say "dvd does\'nt matter to me" after the months of saying "dvd will be better on xbox"

"also, it\'s VERY funny to see the xboxfans say "dvd does\'nt matter to me" after the months of saying "dvd will be better on xbox"
LOL, another good point :)
Wow, there are ALOT of good points in this thread

X-box will have it\'s moment, and shortly die, come on, it won\'t have enough EXCLUSIVE developers to back it up, that is why the PS2 and dreamcast will survive, and most likely NGC.

Yes you are quite right there. The libary will be huge and full of great games by the time ****-box comes out.
3)cost 200$
I doubt that.Do you really expect Sony to drop the price 100$?Sure,the\'ll want to price compeditively to compete with GameCube and X-Box but a 100$ price drop?No way.A 50 $ drop would be most likely,I wouldn\'t be surprised if they dropped to 220,but definately not 200$.The only way they would was if NGC\'s price would be 150.
4)2nd gen graphics(MGS2)
I\'ll bet you money that first-generation X-Box graphics will be superior to 2nd generation PS2 graphics.Nothing to be ashamed of,PS2 will have the quiality.:D
don\'t forget about mario either....
Yep.Can\'t forget about NGC.
xbox will be IMO DOA in japan and europe
Europe-they got a slight chance.
Japan-god the Japanese public is looking forward to GameCube more than X-Box there...(rescent Japanese poll)

Well, it is a mistake, but it won\'t break the system. Anyone who buys a game console to play movies has a few screws loose. The only ppl who are inpressed by a system that can play dvds are 1-kids who can\'t buy their own dvd player, or 2-poor ppl.
I, as anyone who really cared about dvd\'s, bought a player over a year ago. PS2 and I would assume XB are both inadequite for dvd\'s unless you have a **** tv. I\'m with Nplayer-2 (sort of). NGC (and imo, DC) will have the best games.

wow, your wrong again!
(no surprise there)
I know 5 people that are planning to buy a ps2. Why? Beacuse they kill 2 birds with one stone. Parents think the DVD is a good deal, plus they get an awsome video game console and PSX for only 299. My friends dad who has never bought anything but nintendo is buying a PS2 this generation beacuse of the DVD, and he is by no means poor. He is the vice president of a local bank.
Many people did not even know what a DVD player was till the ps2 came out, another friend managed to get a ps2 and did not even know what the DVD player thing on it was!
Your whole logic is VERY VERY flawed!
-
Many people didn\'t know what a dvd player was? So they wanted a PS2 for it? Yea, my thinking is flawed....riiiiiight. :D Sorry, I don\'t care if your friends dad is a moron or not. I think you just like fighting with me.

seriously, i\'m sorry if you are pissed that your god does not have DVD... so you try to defend it... ITS JUST SO FUNNY!!! ROFL!!!

and I CAN\'T BELIVE YOU CALLED my friends dad a moron... what kind of immature kid are you?
-
Its not that big of a deal. By the time it is released DVD players will be cheaper and even more in households. There wasn\'t a huge compelling reason for MS to do it. It lowers the price without it anyways.
It does come with a HD. Unlike the PS2. Its a trade off. Big deal.

Ok, you totally lost me. Biased? Biased towards what? I didn\'t diss any console, or support any console in my argument, except to say NGC and DC will have better games. WTF are you talking about????? My god? I\'m an atheist, so what god are you talking about? What am I defending??? What are you talking about!!??????? Are you sure
It did have DVD too
The X-Box changes too much to take it serously

1-I dismissed both PS2 and XB\'s ability to play dvd\'s. How does that make me a MS fanboy??? I didn\'t say a single pro-MS thing.
2-You didn\'t explain a single thing you said....I guess you didn\'t understand it either...
3-Your friends dad is obviously a moron. And I\'m much older than you \'kid\'.
4-If you want to argue, the hdd/broadband add-on for PS2 will cost much more than a DVD adapter. Hmmmmm...which is a better value.....a game system that plays dvds for $300 or a non dvd playing system with a hdd and modem. Yea, hard choice. You keep claiming i\'m biased, but your arguments make no sense at all. I\'m sure you think you\'won\' this argument (and the last one). I know you didn\'t. What was that? A school bell little kid! Skip along to school junior, don\'t be late!

1- Did you go to college, it sure seems like you did not
2- The HDD will be 99 dollars or less I guarentee you
3- I\'m one of the smartest kids in my school, taking college classes, wining the history fair for my school and going to the state history fair competition, and have a 4.0 average on route to become a valavictorian... I may be a kid, but i\'ve accomplised alot more then you have i\'m sure!
4- Every X-Box post you hide your image and try to defend it the best you can without coming out and saying it. By saying the DVD function will not sell consoles is defending the x-box I SHOULD NOT have to tell you this!
-
I must say I agree with Chrono because I saw the thread where EthuGG got all pissed off when we said that MS windows was a **** OS that was released with over 2000 known bugs and MS didn\'t give a **** about them and released the OS anways, so what makes you think they won\'t do that with MS XBOX, I have a piont don\'t I, well it\'s your money which makes it your choice, have fun with the Glitch-Box
-
chrono, you know yer kommunist leader mm got yer back as well, ehhe. 2000 known bugs? ya dont say...

Chrono-look me up on icq, i\'m the only EThugg. We can argue off the board since we seem to go on and on. As for how smart you are in your high school....what did that have to do with anything? You STILL have not explained what you meant in the other post. The prices of add-ons are speculation, but common sense would dictate that the dvd add-on would be considerably less than a hdd/modem.
Why would you assume I didn\'t go to college, or accomplished anything? You don\'t know me. Why are you starting personal attacks? I hide nothing about my \'image\'. I state my opinions with no concern about what you might think.
@iReS-Agree with what? I\'m stating my opinions, and everyone ****s on me for it. He was there, he knows what I posted.
mm-I\'m glad you promote personal attacks, and people not making sense (ie: the post in this thread where Chrono made no sense, talking jibberish about \'my god\'.). It\'s good to see you aren\'t a slave to reason! Keep up the good fight against common sense when defending your friends.
I\'m done. Ppl aren\'t listening to logic here, and the flaming is about to break out, so I\'m not going to read any further responses in this thread. If any intelligent ppl want to discuse the topic, you can look me up on icq too.
-
*beep* wrong pal, try again
YOU started the insults AND chrono isnt quite my friend, although he is SOMETHING called a SENIOR MEMBER. need i say more?
mm
-
Ok, I lied, I\'m replying again :D
No mm, go back and look at the posts again, he started the personal stuff (me calling his friends dad a moron isn\'t personal,....well, not to Chrono himself anyways).
And all senior member means is he\'s posted more, it says nothing of the quality of those posts. I could wip off 100 posts a week, but I like to think before I post. (Note: that is not meant for Chrono himself, that is meant for people in general who post frivilously just to inflate their post count. re: SyxxKorn/SomeGayWrestler)
-
have fun with the Glitch-Box
Nice!Really nice! And I thought calling it the ****-box was good,glitch-box is like the better name! Can I steal that with your permission of course?
And why does every descent topic resort into an all out battle between EThugg and Chrono? You guys BOTH screwed up a perfectly good topic when you decided to have another one of your famous arguements.I agree with EThugg here:Go on ICQ instead of here.

I think XBox leaving out the DVD playback is a great thing. I already have a dvd and dvd\'s are very inexpensive now. I still maintain that the one thing that will separate the XBox from the rest is XBox is the only console w/a hard drive right out of the box. Yeah, Sony may have a harddrive as an addon but addons almost always fail.
-
Whatever. Ur 1st post and ur already flamin.
-
So what! Flammin or not, the facts were stated. PS2 is the only console w/DVD playback. Big deal, XBox will be the only console w/a hard drive right out of the box. Once again, I already have a dvd and don\'t need it. But the idea of a hard drive leaves much more to the imagination.

Wow newbie, you have proven absolutely nothing.
The DC is the only console with a built in modem,so I guess that seperates it from all consoles,doesn\'t it?
The PS2 is the only console with a built in DVD player,so I guess that seperates it from all other consoles as well, doesn\'t it?
And since everyone already has a computer, why would you want a hard drive on a game system? It doesn\'t appear to be a very intelligent move by Microsoft at all judging from that angle.
So please explain your point Mr.Newbie.Every system has it own feature that seperates it from all game consoles, what makes the built in hard drive feature so special?

Microsoft has announced that there will be an 8MB memory card, which leads most people to believe that it won\'t likely be used simply for storing games. There are a lot of possibilities that the company has put forward, such as allowing gamers to download demos of upcoming games before they\'re released (and without having to subscribe to magazines just to grab demos), as well as allowing developers room to let games grow.
It could also mean that developers can use the extra hard disk space to smooth out load times, store textures, and speed up overall performance of games. Does this mean that you\'ll have to install games when you first load them into your console? No. Bungie has also hinted that Halo will utilize the hard drive for multiplayer, no doubt because faster loading times for information mean less lag.
IGN Xbox: A lot of people are just starting to get excited about the Xbox\'s hard drive. Any more patch comments flying around?
SB: The submission policy is that if you mention patches to your game in a concept approval, that we\'ll send a thermonuclear bomb to your address. The hard drive is not there to make it behave like a PC, the hard drive is there because it opens up so many opportunities for gameplay. We\'re getting some pretty incredible proposed uses for the hard drive, from sports announcing, spooling all the announcer sentences and segments off the hard drive so you can get CD quality announcements from the game in realtime. If you\'re running the announcement track off the DVD it takes a while to seek it, so the announcer might be a little bit late, it might not be able to say as much… but if it runs off hard drive it\'s instantaneous. At the same time you\'re spooling other stuff off so they can be operating in parallel. And just extraordinarily extravagantly large worlds, and some other really, really cool things that I can\'t talk about yet, but that will really shock people when they see them. People are not accustomed to seeing a really high-performance graphics system like this be able to move so much memory through it. When you walk around in an environment, the detail just never quits. It will be a real revelation to a lot of people.
http://xbox.ign.com/news/21004.html
More game for your buck:
So you\'ve finished Super Chiclet Panty Fighters 2, you\'ve unlocked all the secret outfits, and you\'ve even unlocked the special "epileptic" mode banned in 34 states. What\'s left? Usually, you\'d have to wait until the next installment of the series comes out, but with the hard drive and the broadband connection included with the Xbox, you\'ll be able to download a new character, get some new moves, or maybe even add a completely new level to the game. Sega has already done something similar with Sonic Adventure\'s VMU season download, a tiny file that added Christmas details, or party balloons to the main city in the game. While it didn\'t change the game in any significant way, it was still impressive to finally see a console game with changeable parts. Think of the massive space available on the Xbox hard drive, and the possibilities are endless. Hopefully we\'ll see a trend start with Xbox games where a hit title is followed up by new characters, levels and gimmicks a few months after the game\'s release.
Demos mean free fun:
If the Xbox had a 56k modem this might not be such an exciting prospect, but with the broadband connection in the Xbox, you\'ll be able to download games quickly. Why buy a magazine for the free demos when you could just download the free demos for… free? Maybe it\'s just because we\'re an Internet mag, but the prospect of skipping paper altogether sound very cool to us. What downloadable games also mean is that small puzzle games or free titles like Sega Swirl on the Dreamcast could be downloaded in a matter of minutes. It\'s a smart move for publishers as well, since PC demos have proven to be very, very successful in selling a game on store shelves. If console fans were finally able to get the same instant access to demos as PC gamers have, then it would change the way that games are bought on console systems forever.
Swap this:
You\'ve probably heard some talk about swap space on a hard drive, and what that will mean for Xbox titles. Swapping is a technique that allows a processor to manipulate data files that are larger than the system\'s actual main memory. What this means is that developers could use the hard drive to speed up load times, to get the hard drive working on active music, or maybe just drive a lot more polygons on screen during a specific scene. It\'s really up to the developers to decide how they want to use the hard drive when it comes to swap space, which is exactly how it should be. If you leave developers with the ability to get creative, you\'re always bound to get impressive results.
Music Downloads:
This serves two purposes -- MP3s, and in-game music. While the sound processor will be able to push some pretty heavy sound effects, and pull off some great dynamic sound tricks (just check out our audio demo feature for more information), a lot of developers favor using MP3s to play background tracks during a game. A hard drive gives you the room to uncompress audio files for speedier access during the game, something that PC developers frequently use, despite the CD format. Games like The Sims for the PC actually contain special MP3 tricks that you can tweak, such as the ability to change the music in the game\'s jukebox or radio by replacing your own MP3 files over its standard music files. A lot of PlayStation games allow you to switch out your own music CDs when you play a level, but why not go a step further and allow you to select from MP3s already on your hard drive? Even better, game companies could release special remixes of in-game music, or new tracks that you could download and place into your game, like a mix tape.
And let\'s not forget about MP3 playing, either. Sony has already mentioned that its hard drive will allow you to play digital music, and we can only assume that Microsoft will do the same in order to compete. If you\'re already going to have a combination DVD player/game system, why not turn it into a stereo as well? It only makes sense.
Fan Mail:
Hey, you always say you could do it better -- so why don’t you? If you can design your own skins and maps for Quake on the PC, why couldn\'t you do the same for a console? Sure, you\'d still have to design the skins on a PC, but you could send them to the developer, the developer would choose the best skins, and then you\'d be able to download them from their site using your broadband connection. Better yet, why couldn\'t the developer add some simple art tools that would let you make some cool changes to characters, then just upload them onto a site for others to grab?
Take for instance Tony Hawk 2. On the PlayStation, you\'ll be able to design courses and trade them with your friends… if you\'ve got a memory card. If you\'re lucky, you\'ll be able to trade them over the web using the Dex Drive. But with the Xbox, that same game (and keep in mind, Tony Hawk is almost definitely coming to the Xbox) could have an online feature with the top 20 custom courses available for download, all designed by fans from around the world. Talk about unlimited potential. Talk about more ways to slam your teeth into the pavement.
Or maybe you\'re an RPG fan -- why not create a game where you could truly customize your characters, and then trade them over the Internet with your friends? Pokemon has proven that people love being able to trade, so why not capitalize on that by turning your sharing circle into a worldwide community using the Internet, instead of just a playground?
A memory card really limits what you can save, which in turn limits what you can tweak in a game. With a hard drive you wouldn\'t have those limitations, which means that while the Dreamcast may allow you to trade save games and scores, the Xbox could have you swapping entire custom levels and graphics with friends from around the globe.
Room to Grow:
PC games are usually full of all sorts of compressed files, which is why you\'ve got to install them in the first place. Consoles don\'t have that luxury, and are forced to keep everything within the confines of the system\'s memory. The hard drive will allow developers to compress audio, textures, and level information, then load them onto the hard drive for faster access. That means much smaller load times, and much larger limits on what you can or can\'t do in a game. Games are more than just polygons and pixels, they\'re complex AI, pathing routines, processing nightmares and gameplay heaven, and when you\'re allowed some breathing room to let your game actually reside on a system instead of simply renting some memory space, you\'ll find that the results are much more impressive. Just check out the complexity of your average PC RPG, and you\'ll see just how massive things can get.
Episode One. And Two, and Three…:
With Sega\'s current track record, Phantasy Star Online with undoubtedly be an impressive first foray into the console online realm. But without a hard drive to keep large chunks of information on, the game will be limited in how it can change and unfold over the coming months. Xbox won\'t have such limitations however, and online gaming for consoles could truly become episodic. That could mean opening up a new area of a map every few months for an online world, or actually creating a game that releases in chapters over a long period of time. But either way, the effects on how console gamers play and purchase titles will never be the same.
You\'re welcome.
-
Jumpman, testy aren\'t you!
Gotta argue with someone.
Ok, so you say that putting in a HD is a stupid move on Microsoft\'s behalf.Tell that to the developers.
I never said anything like that. You were talking about it being "the only built in feature which will seperate X-Box from all systems".I simply stated it wasn\'t.It won\'t sell system like the built in DVD feature will(PS2),it won\'t allow you to play over the internet without buying a modem seperatly(DC).That\'s all I\'m saying. Its not that big of a deal.I think its cool feature actually...
Seems like there\'s gonna be many developers wanting to take advantage of the HD
Like whom exactly?I havent seen any saying anything about developers taking advantage of it.
And the GS will be out by then.I guess developers will look to make use of that for PS2 games.:D
can you say MGSX.
Can you say Konami hasent officially confirmed MGSX for X-Box?
-
I don\'t know why ppl think I\'m a fanboy because I *gasp* defend a console when ppl are dissing it for the wrong reasons. If MS cancelled XB tomorrow, I wouldn\'t shed any tears, and if that judges order stands, and MS is forced to split up, who cares? And I have never paid for a MS product, not even windows . So everyone....well, chrono and @iReS (if you did, I can\'t remember), who call me a fanboy can bite me.
Every topic doesn\'t turn sour because of me and Chrono btw, only 1 has. The other was me and @iReS fighting mostly, and chrono came in. I am fine with chrono and I having differing opinions on some things, but when he says stupid things like many ppl not getting/knowing about dvd players before PS2, well sorry, but thats just stupid. PS2 has next to no impact on the dvd market. There\'s millions of dvd players that were sold before PS2 was even being covered every 5 minutes in the mainstream media. And i\'ve been consistant on my views. I think dvd playback is a minor thing on a console. It\'s all about games. Period. Not about hdd\'s, or dvd players.
The one feature that I think is important is online gaming. I think it will actually add something to games. If XB doesn\'t launch with a modem, that\'s a problem. I don\'t need a 4th DVD player, but every console should be online. And since every console has internet plans, it\'s all good. It just pisses me off when ppl like Chrono label me a fanboy when I state facts and my opinions. Its obvious he won\'t be buying as XB, and I will be. The end. That doesn\'t make me a fanboy.
-
Thanks Nu Gundam for the information. I read all of the info and now I\'m even more excited about the XBox. As I said before, the inclusion of the hard drive inside the XBox will bring it to another level. Once again, I appreciate the info.
-
I don\'t care what anyone says, I have 2 DVD players allready and Sony is trying to screw me into buying another one when I don\'t want it.
-
As I said before, the inclusion of the hard drive inside the XBox will bring it to another level.
And as I previously said. The built in DVD feature and built in modem will bring DC and PS2 to another level.Maybe DC, Glitch-Box,and PS2 are all at the same level if we think about it hard enough...

I don\'t know if you consider it official or not, but it was announced in some capacity. I don\'t think a hdd is a big deal either.....then again, according to Chrono, I\'m just trying to hide my bias...:D

I\'m going to put my two cents in.
First of all, since when did posting your opiniion get you flamed on this board (not that I have been on this board long, but..) Just because someone does not think the PS2 is that great of a gaming system does not mean that everyone must enlighten him otherwise. It\'s his right to think whatever the hell he wishes. Secondly I think when it all boils down to it, the DVD feature isnt going to mean much. You can go out and purchase a DVD player for $99.99 these days at your local Best Buy. So if the X-box is going to be cheaper because of that.. great more reason for me to get my hands on one... and set it next to my other systems. I certainly did not buy a PS2 because of the DVD feature. BTW EThugg... why are you getting so upset that some of the people on this board do not like you... who cares. Hopefully you didnt loose any sleep over it. You must just like to fight w/ people, huh....

AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!
How DARE you bring my beloved Metal Gear into this!
D*mn you!
1st rule you need to learn on this forum: Don\'t mess with Metal Gear when SS88 is around... and I\'m always around!

Silverskies- Yes, I like ruffling a few feathers now and again. :D But I\'m a pitbull in an argument or debate. I don\'t give up til it\'s over. And no, I would never lose sleep over ppl I don\'t even know in real life.

Jumpman, why are you jumping down my throat (no pun intended). The reason why I bring up MGSX is b/c konami has mentioned that this will be MGS2 with extra features. Konami has said that they are not sure what the extras might be but they do intend on using XBox\'s Hard Drive (to exploit those extras). Look, I\'m not trying to cause any trouble. I\'m here for the same reasons as anyone else, I\'m interested in video games. I have a DC right now and I\'m trying to decided whether PS2 or XBox will be the better choice. Sony and Microsoft are huge companies and IMO both will probably have the same amount of developer support. However, you can\'t deny the potential of what a HD can do for a system (as Nu Gundam has shown citing many quotes from developers).

EThugg:
I think people label you as a fanboy because you seem to diss PS2 at every chance. Fair or not? You be the judge.
Everybody else:
Why are you so angry at the Xbox? If it\'s a great system, then I\'m there. I have a PS2 and I love it. But that doesn\'t make me blind - if another good console gives me games and features I can\'t get elsewhere, then I\'ll get it for sure. There\'s no law saying it\'s illegal to own both a PS2 and Xbox.

I say, \'not\'. I\'ve defended PS2 plenty of times. If I felt like dissing PS2 at \'every chance\', I would have a post count like SyxxKorn. I hold back on many attacks on Sony \'cause I actually *like* Sony. I\'d hate to hear everyones replys to me actually attacking Sony. I guess some of you can\'t take some warranted critisizm...:p I guess everyone who hates a system spends over $1000 on the system, games, etc.

I\'m not saying you hate Sony, just pointing out what some people might think - even if they\'re wrong. :)

Glad to hear it....well, at least your opinion about me. :D

I don\'t care what anyone says, I have 2 DVD players allready and Sony is trying to screw me into buying another one when I don\'t want it.
that\'s a cheap shot actually, when you think about it,all the consoles will have features everyone will not want on them,GC\'s propriety disc,DC\'s modem,XB\'s hard-drive...they may be unnecessary to others like the dvd function in PS2 is to some here. there are alot of good points on all sides of the topic here, but obviously this is a PS2 forum so you will see more here who agree with PS2\'s functions than the other consoles,so don\'t take a crap in your pants if that is the majority\'s liking on the subject...

y\'all make me sick....
I mean you are saying xbox is dead because it won\'t have built in consumer DVD support, thats really stupid.
If you look at the PS2 it has half assed DVD support, it doesn\'t have a remote and you have to use the controllers (which have wires and short wires too) to navigate complex DVD menus. Anyone that uses the PS2 that way is a moron.... Thats why people buy the PS2 DVD remote so they can actually make the feature usefull.
The Xbox you buy the DVD remote with the DVD feature which is much better because I am sure the quality as far as software wise blows the PS2 away and you don\'t have to use the stupid controller menus.
DVD on the PS2 is far more of a hassle and a novelty than a usefull thing until you add in the DVD remote.
The Xbox can play MPEG movies as it has the hardware built in for MPEG-2 support, you are just buying the software and a DVD Remote, which makes it as good as a REAL DVD player.
If you want the feature you pay an extra 25 dollars and Microsoft can advertise the feature and you can also purchase it as a package deal I am sure, thats what is so stupid about saying Xbox is dead, more like the people saying that are brain dead.
There are far more advantages than problems doing it seperately and it makes a lot of sense. I am sure more games will sell on the xbox instead of movies, but who in the hell wants a half assed DVD player. MY DVD player is a 5 disc changer, one disks are going out of style now days. :)
The I.Q. in this forum just keeps getting lower and lower, I guess thats what happens when video games go mainstream. Its like Sony is the new AOL.

thanks for calling me a moron
i think what sony have done is really good, DVD players have not taken off in Australia yet, and neither has cable modems, Sony are going to make both of those widespread much faster than natural evolution. Calling someone who doesnt a have a DVD player (like everyone he knows) and using a controller to controll it makes you (if anyone) the moron.

Well Bob are you sure Australia has electricity to be able to use your DVD player errr I mean PS2? I figured maybe you need to use it somewhere else where there are people and toilets and not outhouses.
I still stand behind my statement, buy yourself a DVD Remote control, you do know what one of those are don\'t you? Or do they not have them in Austrailia?
I am glad I don\'t live in Austrailia! Talk about being at the end of the world and I don\'t mean physically either. :)

Sorry DWarrior, but you are one of the most ignorant people I have ever seen ... errr, read.
You know Australia has a couple of cities right...? I even think there is a place called \'Sydney\'. I\'m sure at least HALF of those people actually have a real toilet. Not too sure though.
-
AT FIRST I THOUGHT XBOX WITHOUT DVD WILL BE BAD ,BUT TO MY SERPRISE IT WOULD BE HEAPS CHEAPER THAN THE PS2,
AND IT WONT HAVE DVD PROBLEMS LIKE PS2 HAS
-
and thx for the daily "lesson in ignorance" clown
