Dreamcast, Playstation 2, GameCube, and Xbox are pitiful names IMO. They could have been a bit better. The companies that make consoles should start creating names that make you think, "What in the world is that." What did you think when you first heard of "Nuon" and "Indreama" (however you spell the freaking word). I know this really doesn\'t matter, but I still think that they could come up with better names that could get people to make people a little bit more interested in the console.

Personally, I like some of the console names. I never was a really big fan of the name "Playstation," but it grew on me. I think Dreamcast is a pretty cool sounding name (but I think I like Saturn better). To me "XBox" sounds really cool. Something that is named "XBox" sounds really powerful. Gamecube is pretty mediocre though but it will grow on me.

ECKSBOCKS.

Well, ELAsesino, what would be good names then? Can you come up with better ones?
I\'m not too fond of any of those names, but PlayStation really grows on people. The perfect name for a commercial product, the name tells you what the machine does, simple. I think Nintendo changed Dolphin to GameCube for this reason. People know that dolphins are mammals that live in the seas, you normally don\'t play videogames on them. The name "GameCube" could almost be considered a rip-off of "PlayStation"... :)

I coulden\'t care less about the name, and you are a hypocrit if you complain about the name

Hmmm, that\'s pretty interesting Hawke! I was thinking the reason why Nintendo named their next console "GameCube" is b/c they were trying to live off of the huge success of the GB. Notice a trend, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance and GameCube. I think it\'s a mediocre name but a really smart idea, marketing wise.

Now before I start arguing with you, I want everyone to see what I posted in the "Has Nintendo Screwed Up Again" topic.

Yes I have a playstation and dreamcast and plenty of multy disc games, but I still think it would have been easyier and cheaper to have used proper sized discs instead of multyple disks, and what do you have to say about the name and box?

What I (ElAsesino) said:
1)PS2 doesn\'t even come close to the type of piracy protection GC will have. Heck, people are already pirating PS2 games. So, developers can either sacrifice anti-piracy for space, or space for anti-piracy. In the long run the piracy will cost them more money than the multiple disks, so that plays well with developers.
2)I could care less about the name, and you are a hypocrit if you complain about the name GameCube, and not Playstation. Seriously if you think about it, Playstation sounds like playground equipment.
3)The design is good enough for me, because I don\'t give a flip about having the ultimate entertainment system. I just want a videogame system.
As you can see I said that you are a hypocrit if you complain about the name "GameCube" and DON\'T complain about the name "Playstation". Now, who is the one who is a "mister retarded pussy fanboy"?

PS2 is the best name.
The rest just don\'t make sense.

Personally, I like "Dreamcast" ... and "GameCube" will grow on me. PS2 is fine, but un-original. Now Xbox I despise. DirectX in a box.

Every console has a hidden advertizer in their name.
PlayStation for instance means Station full of Playing - the name really gets ppl to buy it. Seriously.
GameCube - It\'s a cube full of Games. Funny, don\'t you think? ( someone\'s could complain the name being childish but I think complaining about so small thing is childish :) )
Dreamcast - It certainly casts dreams, what that is supposed to mean, I don\'t know; but the name\'s cool ( saturn was good also; my fav. planet :) but some Nintenzoids easily edited the name to Sadturn )
XBox - it\'s mysterious. It could mean anything. ( X, the mark of "anything" ). It\'s a box of mysteries.
Funny isn\'t it?

well- let\'s go visit the basics, Play station comes from Workstation, in which people do serious work in. So "playstation" is when people do serious gaming (hardcore, proffessional gaming) does that explain it?
i think Xbox (the name) is kinda stupid, if a gamecube is games in a cube, and a playstation is the hardcore gamers depot, then Xbox is an x in a box.
verrrrrry stupid!

My favorites:
Jaguar
Nomad (ties in witht he portability of it! Ingenius!)
NES
Genesis
Saturn
Dreamcast
GameGear
Intellivision
Sears Video Arcade (Just Kidding! :p)
My least fav:
Playstation (yes, it does sound like playground equipment!)
GameCube (sounds like one of theose boxes with little cut out holes that you stick corresponding shapes into)
WonderSwan (sounds a tad fruity to me)
Gameboy (kinda kiddish to me)
Nintendo64 (wow, that matters alot to me!)
SegaCD (should have been GenesisCD)
Thats about it, everything else is pretty much middle of the road.

How about the 3D0? That was a pretty lame system name.
