I recently bought an unopened PS2 from eBay. Whenever I load a PS2 game it makes random sharp whirring noises for a short period of time and then nothing happens. The PS2 picture remains on "Screen 1." When I load a DVD movie it makes a different type of brief whirring noises and then nothing. I\'ve tried Tekken Tag Tournament that was borrowed from a friend, a newly bought SSX, and a brand-new ID4 DVD. The only things that the PS2 seems to play are audio CDs. Someone help me out before I\'m stuck with an expensive CD player.
Thanks,
Mike

i think someone might\'ve dropped it accidentally before they gave it to ya.... then the cd-rom stuffed up... i think you should give it back to ebay or send it to sony for repairs
-
I don\'t know about this, but maybe you got the Japanese PS2...

all I have to say is goodluck and contact ebay
-
....damned person that sold it to you must have severaly dropped it and new it wasn\'t going to be anymore good....I say you contact Sony and have them replace it....
-
Sounds to me like its a Jap PS2. I would contact eBay. Good luck with your case man. I wish you the best! :)

Thanks for all your help. I do not think it is a Japanese PS2 because the text is in English. Or does that not matter?
-
Since I believe there is a way to change the text from Japanese to English for the Japanese version.
-
If it was a Japanese PS2 and he would insert a "wrong" game or DVD there would be a red message screen.
But it seems to hang with the 1st screen, right? So it`s a defective model.
-
well eBay cant do anything about it..and i bet neither the seller would cuz he would just avoid you..if you send it to SONY, you wont get your system back within a month IF it is a defective model..and its going to be a b**ch for shipping it to SONY. its going to cost you like $25+ and to ship UPS with all these other stuff on top like confirmation, insurance, etc.
if its Japanese, i wish you luck..but the good thing is, is that you get to play imports ;)

that sucks... i would send it back to sony saying it must have been mishandled in shipping or somthing they should replace it :D
-
Sh1t, I would go nuts if I\'d have same kind of problems with PS2!
All I can say is Good Luck, hope you success contacting E-bay and trading the unit or buying a mod-chip.
My quess would go that it\'s just a wrecked unit. I mean, there could be problems with the laser-eye or something. Call someone to repair it if possible.
-
Well, someone else with a PS2 problem!
It looks like it\'s just me and you buddy. :( lol
-
I think that the console is danaged... call to ebay and change it.
-
modchips are unstable at the moment...once you installed it and it screws up, your pretty much arsed out
-
Everything will be fine. I called the Sony customer support hotline, and they gave me a nearby address to send the system to. Good thing the warranty hasn\'t expired. I should receive it in less than a month. It\'s a long wait, but I get my warranty extended for free and my system should work for sure. Also, it\'ll give me time to wait for some good games to come out.
Again, thanks for all your help.

I had mine screwed up and it took exactly a month to get it back. 10 days of it was shipping though because I sent it ground and so did they. Not fun, but I had two PS2s, so I didn\'t really care.
