Title: Is there any light at the end of my tunnel?
Post by: Krypt0 on December 27, 2000, 04:05:13 PM
I am pretty bummed at the moment due to the response to some of my inqueries. I have found that i won\'t be able to watch DVD\'s on my system that i bought in japan because it is too new a model and the controller tricks won\'t work for it. If anyone out there has any type of words that might cheer me up relating to the use of my DVD player please post a reply. My system is a new scph 18000 from tokyo and has the new DVD player v 2.00.

...why can\'t they make DVD\'s universal? :(

I\'m sorry I can\'t cheer you up, but I can answer your question.

The reason why DVD\'s aren\'t universial is because the movie companies want to be able to control the release of movies in certain areas. So that when a movie gets on DVD in USA, the other parts of the world can\'t import it and play it, instead of going to the cinema to watch it.

So the reason is purely capitalism.

There are some places on line that you can buy dvd\'s that are all region. Some countries don\'t have the same copyright laws like us. I bought several Disney dvd\'s out of Aisa because at the time Disney wasn\'t out on dvd yet. Look around. I am sure eventually someone will figure out how to defeat it.
