Why do people think the PS2\'s DVD playback sucks???
I have a $400 dollar Sony DVD player and I\'ve run them side-by-side and I can\'t tell the difference.
I love the playback. Anyone else thinks its not great??
I think Sony did an excellent job of DVD playback.
-
There hasn\'t been any problems with mine...plays the same as my uncle\'s DVD Player...except he has a 60" Widescreen...
-
Mine doesn\'t have any problems, either.
-
Mine works perfectly, I don\'t know why people are saying it sucks. They\'re just stupid.
-
Mine works perfect as well, and I think the DVD playback is excellent.
-
Maybe people want to justify their $200 purchase (for their DVD players) ... I\'m not sure.
I think the PS2 playback is nice, and I haven\'t had a single problem.

The PS2 DVD playback is good, just not as good as a stand-alone player. For the record, this is not just my observation, there are many that agree. But I definitely do not think it sucks.
-
Hello I\'m a newbie! I think the PS2 has a decent DVD playback. I had to send mine back after only a week of having it, because of a bad optical drive. Ever since Sony repaired it it works great.
-
If I had any problems with mine (just in case) where would I send it to??? Is it written on the box or something???
By the way...I wouldn\'t recommend buying X-Men on DVD...it sucks. They add in cut-scenes that obviously were inserted by some retard. Of course, there is an option to turn off the extra footage, but you have to change it every time. Try renting this one before buying it.
-
DVD playback is excellent, and I can\'t wait till my Monster Cable Gamelink 300, and lightwave 100 get here early next week! :) I have the following DVD\'s so far:
1. Transformers: The Movie
2. T2: The Ultimate DVD
3. Rush Hour
4. X-Men
As to the person who said X-Men sucks, mine never inserts the extra footage, it was an option when I went to a special feature section. I also like how I changed it to consistently play 16:9 instead of 4:3 Letterbox, and that I took off the parental control levels (these were annoying as hell!)
-
How do you turn off the added footage?? Me and my dad were watching it the other nite and when it would switch layers, we looked at each other and said "What the hell??" Anyways, I love the PS2 dvd, i watch movies all the time now! :D
-
I couldn\'t get it to insert the extra footage either. The playback itself it good I just think the interface itself is a piece of crap. And having the Infered receiver sticking out of the machine makes it look retarded. I wish they would have just built the receiver into the maching. Oh I hate my remote as well.
-
I thought X-men the movie sucked in general, so I won\'t get it on DVD.
I\'ve got DVD on the computer I\'m posting with. I perfer the DVD playback on my PS2. It doesn\'t suck. I need to buy a DVD remote for it though. I hate using my controller. I had a DVD remote, but it was one of the early models, where it was mis-labeled. Was rather annoying. I took a hammer to it. It doesn\'t annoy me anymore.
Its broken.

I killed the remote in self defense.

i want the SONY DVD remote..i wonder when its going to come out to state side..i guess it wont be until sometime spring or summer 2001..i LOVE the dvd playback..considering that it is the ONLY DVD player i have..my ONLY complaint is that there isnt too many functions on it
-
The only problem i have with the dvd playback is the fact that the fastfoward doesn\'t go fast enough and it takes forever to get to some scence from the begginning of a chapter in a couple of my movies - my friends new dvd player gets up to 60x fastfoward - now thats fast - other than i love it
-
Myself and others have had problems running Gladiator on DVD and someone else just posted about the Matrix getting the same errors as me.
It\'s good playback, when it works, which so far I\'m 2 out of 3.
-
Gladiator played back fine on my PS2. But now I have to send my PS2 in for repairs after only a month (refuses to read PSX/PS2 software now; everything works fine on my friend\'s PS2).
-
WWF Smackdown 2 seems to run fine, however the load times are outrageously long.

What player do you use on your PC,Living-in-Clip ?I have tried Cinemaster,Power DVD,WinDVD.With all that players I got problems with static backrounds( flickering, pixels change from hard to soft).Maybe its just a Monitor problem. With my PS2 playback is much better.
So I use my PS2 for Region 1 and my PC for al other Regions (mainly 2).

I think PS2´s DVD playback doesn´t suck, the bad films suck!!! ;)

Mediamatics.
Its about 2 years old now.

From my experience and what I\'ve seen, the people who say that Sony\'s DVD playback sucks, are the people who think there the sh*t cuz they have some over priced DVD, and are MAD, just because a "toy" has the same playback as there super fabalous high end DVD.
-
Yeah,
I\'m really laughing at people who think the DVD playback on the PS2 is garbage, it rocks!
Also, I\'ve watched: Matrix and Gladator BOTH on my PS2 and they work fine.
-
The DVD playback on the PS2 is more than adequate. I can\'t really notice the difference between it and my set-top Toshiba SD-2150 player. The only thing I like better about my standalone player is that it can do zooming and it has faster searching.
Unless you have a high-end DVD capable of progressive scan (for owners of digital TVs only), there\'s really not a huge difference. Sony finally got off their butts and made their first one, the 9000ES. Too bad it costs like $1500 retail while their competitors offer the same features (if not more) for hundreds less.
-
The 9000es plays SACD & also contains a dedicated microprocessor for motion detecting. Combine that with a 54MHz/12-bit video DAC and that price is not that exhorbant at all.
-
Yeah I suppose not. It\'s only a matter of wanting to part with the cash. :hat:
