I am trying currently to confirm this information...
but here goes
"The latest in a whirlwind of Sega related reports appeared in the morning edition of the Asian WallStreet Journal. In particular, CRI sub-chairman Kazuhiko-san (Sega\'s parent company) went on record regarding Sega\'s future in the console gaming market. In his own words, \'Sega will withdraw from the hardware market in the long-term. It will be a slow and honorable process.\' The report also quoted a financial analyst close to Sega as saying, \'The cost of maintaining their hardware business just doesn\'t make sense anymore.\' Continuing, the report suggest Sega will focus on software and mobile devices in the future"
I have recived this information from a source, which I cannot reveal, but I have also recived information that this is false. Something having to do with the new york times, which my memory leads me to remember that was conflicing an older report months ago, but I belive this is newer information. I will post to confirm this information ASAP.
*Wishes the brand new website was up for this breaking news... sigh*
Anyway, if this does prove to be true, this is good
why?
Sega can now concentrate on games, such as sonic. They make great games, and now they can concentrate on them and maybe make money! Who knows what will happen, but I will keep everybody updated :)

Sega makes great games.
Sony makes great hardware.
Sega\'s games + Sony\'s console = Pure gaming heaven
That\'s why ol\' Sony should go out and try to buy Sega. I know it\'s kinda farfetched, but geez that would be so sweet.
-
No. If Sega does go 3rd party I\'d want to see them support ALL consoles with a few exclusives sprinkled here and there.
Then again, this all rumor and speculation. Yeah, CSK\'s president might have said those words.. but that dosen\'t mean that its set in stone. Until Sega confirms without a doubt, their withdrawl from the hardware market, we should all take that artical with a HUGE grain of salt.

I´ve read this before in a german forum and it was said that this is an old BUT TRUE information...
I aggree with 182Ways ! If SEGA concentrates more in making Games, it could be better for all !!!
-
Sega also makes great hardware, and them making their own can help them make the best possible games they can make. If they go third party, the quality of their games will down, because they will not know the system as well as if they created it themselves.
If they do go third party, I personally would like to see them stay with one conosle al la Square, so they could really learn the system they develop for, most likely I would want them to go on Gamecube or X-Box, I just think Sony does not give the respect to Sega for making great games as Shigeru Miyamato does for Nintendo.
But, alas I don\'t believe this will happen any time soon, as Sega will be making large gains on both sides of the Pacific this year. Several million sellers have been made this year alone, many of which give Sega much needed royalty payments. Trust me, Sega is not gong out of the hardware market, if they do, it will be a sad day indeed, as Sega makes GREAT games, and their games that have been featured on other systems have turned out crappy, al la Afterburner on NES, Space Harrier on PC-Engine, etc.
I am hoping for the best.

I think SEGA goes on alive if it transforms in a Third Party of Sony and Nintendo.
-
what sega develop games for the playstation 2 , i dont think i can habndle that LOL.
Only kidding
that would be great for both SONY AND SEGA
-
I said it would end up happening too a few of my friends and some people from the forum.. I guess it has started too. Sega will be GREAT developers. :D
-
Didn\'t that come out about six months ago? And didn\'t SEGA say that it was a total mistranslation? Thought so.
-
Don\'t expect them to abandon dreamcast anytime soon. If they even start as third party while dreamcast is out I think they\'ll stick with dreamcast w/ their bigger exclusive
and throw a few older ports and stuff out to get some extra money. Sega WIll Support Dreamcast Till It Dies %110.
-
it wont happen anytime soon..maybe like 3-4 years from now...DC is doing so well..
-
Until its on every news site, and there\'s a huge press conference with the announcment, It\'s rumor as far as I\'m concerned, not that it would be horrible, I\'d buy Sega games for other systems then, but I am taking this \'breaking news\' with not a grain, but a bucket full of salt.

Yep Aaron. But, Sega rumours stay around for months among more months.

This would make many Sony owners very happy... perhaps the reason why Sony allowed Bleemcast...

Sony had no choice with BleemCast!.
The emulator was proved not to be reverse engineered. So, they didn\'t break any copyright laws. They do not pirate the games, so it doesn\'t affect the developers. Sony basically had no say on BleemCast! after the intial Bleem! ordeal for the computer.
-
Sony is now trying to get Bleemcasts source code. If they get it, it will be integrated into it\'s Playstation Driver. Bleemcast PSX does look better than PSX games on the PS2 turned to smooth.

Yeah. In my personal opinion, I don\'t see as Sony has any right to the BleemCast! source code, just to improve their own PS drivers.

I could take it or leave it.
I like Sony\'s games better than Sega\'s and that\'s my preference. I\'m tired of people always parroting "Sega makes great games.." Blah Blah Blah. Polly want a cracker?
Yeah, Sega does make good games, but so does Sony. Sega\'s tend to be more "Arcadey" and Sony\'s are more diverse and...well...different.
I like Rpg\'s and other more obscure titles better than Arcade style, so I like Sony\'s games better.
Just my opinion.:)

LOL, I thinks this marks the 100th time I\'ve heard this rumor. Yet everytime people eat it up like candy.
I never did get the hardware argument either. Aside from the Saturn and it\'s cousins, Sega has made great hardware, the DC being their best yet. I would even go as far as to say the DC is the best designed console in gaming history. (although soon to be surpassed, probably by the XBox).
I guess some people like to induldge in repetitive wishful thinking, but I wish they would stop with the rumors and just live with Sega making great games on it\'s own hardware, or wait for an offical annoucement by the company itself. Until then, I guess these rumors will continue pop up every 3 months as a continuing trend among anti-Sega enthusiasts.
-
Cygnus, you must have missed all those sports, RPG, racing, flying, driving, adventure, horror, action, platofrm, etc. games that Sega makes and has made, becuase believe it or not, but they are far more diverse than Sony will ever be.
And the funny thing is, is that every year, they find ways to top even themselves with new gameplay and game ideas. It still blows my mind.
And how many games does sony really make? Probably about 10% of PSX\'s titles were made by Sony and its 2nd parties, if that. Sega releases and creates probaly 30%, Nintendo about 50%.

I agree with Cygnus, I\'m so tired of the Sega defense team always putting the DC on a pedestal. By the time this generation is done, the all these great DC games won\'t seem as great as they do now although they\'ll always be considered good games they\'ll lose there luster in the long haul, Sega was/is just the 1st in line with next gen hardware and next gen games.
I would like to see Sega become a 3rd party developer publisher like Konami, EA, Square, namco, Capcom etc... The business can always use another strong publisher/developer. Of course Sega has to make some money 1st.
I also don\'t think we can expect any official Sega announcement on this until its obvious to all the DC is slowing in momnetum it will be after Christmas 2001 before anything truly official probably makes it out
-
I\'m not even touching this one (The SEGA vs Sony games).
I would like to see Sega get bought out by MS or Nintendo, before they went third party for every system. I rather them focus all resources on one system.
But of course, if they did go third party, I\'d still buy the games.
But Ddaryl is right, they wouldn\'t announce this until after the DC was about dead.
-
Sega 3rd party?? Sign me up!

Naw Sega has the talent to be very resourceful across the board, just like EA, Konami etc....
I\'m sure MS, Nintendo and SOny would love to finance some Sega exclusives for there systems so money would come from there. Sega lining themselves up with just one hardware maker could prove to be equally devestating as trying to maintain there own hardware business. The only intelligent way to approach this is provide support for all 3 and see who\'s left standing who offers the best place to make big money then focus more there.
