Title: I GOT THE BOUNCER GAME TODAY
Post by: on December 30, 2000, 01:52:55 AM: I picked up my copy of the import version of THE BOUNCER and I must say fellow gamers that if you dont get this game when it comes out you are just plain sorry,,this is the best game so far until METAL GEAR SOLID 2 SON\'S OF LIBERTY comes out. Since I have a import version, SQUARE did a good job with making the option to play the entire game in english...thats right my friends when this option is turned on its like you went into WALMART and bought a american version of the game...WOO..HOOO..I mean the entire game is in english right down to the volume control option,,I dished out $80.00 for this game and will do the same when METAL GEAR SOLID 2 comes out since i speak Japanese..I guess living in japan has its moments,,,hehe..if you want to know more about this game I will be more than happy to tell you about it. OH yeah and there is a game called ZOE coming out with a demo of MGS 2,,so you know where i will be in FEBRUARY,,,hahaha,,,take care fellow gamers,,time to go beat some booty

So does it live up to the hype ? How good is the fighting ? did you do any of the three ways yet where they all gang up on someone. Grrr.. Im jealous.

Post by: on December 30, 2000, 02:50:22 AM: Yes it does live up to the hype,,while playing the game if you are beating up someone and your are close to another character and he says "you ready",,I did something with the buttons and the character grabbed the bad guy and a smooth looking cut type scene happened,,,like it was MATRIX style,,then it went back to the regular fighting,so far I have not noticed any ways to change the level difficulty I think it plays on a same level for all gamers. One part in the game which will make you memorize the button layout on the controller is when you pick the character with the zebra looking tattoos he goes thru a security area disguised as one of the guards and everytime a guard comes up to you{the game takes you on a certain path, thats why you run into the guards so you can\'t avoid them} they do a pose and you have to match that pose from the button that it corresponds too, sounds easy but believe me I was saying some things I should not be saying when I could not get passed the 4th guard. If you mess up then you will have to fight about 5 of them bad boys..there is a story mode in which certain points in the game you can switch characters (way cool) there is a survival mode(way cool in which you can gain other characters to play in(oh yeah secret characters) have not played with that part much. There is a couple of cut scenes that look like the graphics from the SILENT HILL trailer. The only thing you have to get used to is the button configuration,,for example you can punch with the triangle button and kick with the triangle button..all depends on how hard you press the button,,that goes for all the other buttons too,,so you gotta get used to that feature. There is a option where you can set the level of pressure on the buttons to make it easier. Wow I just wrote a book,,,lol...

Post by: on December 30, 2000, 03:04:11 AM: I played for a hour at first and made my way quickly thruout the firt part of the game, but I just started the game so I hope there is alot more to come,,,hey there is this girl in the game that morphs back and forth into a panther in the cut scenes..way cool..I\'m at a point in the game where I have to protect this girl from 3 big robots and they keep killing her. So thats where I\'m stuck at now, but read somewhere online that the games has many hours of gameplay..there is a part in the game where you go into space,,,I hope I can get there soon. So I pray there is alot more to go, but the survival mode will keep you busy,,you can get secret characters from there and I also think in the game itself as you progress. Everytime you win a fight scene you get points in which you can get more LIFE, DEFENSE and POWER. You can even give the other 2 some points to build up their power as well.

Post by: on December 30, 2000, 03:11:06 AM: YEAH I was thinking BOUNCER would be out in FEB, but I was wrong,,,I happen to walk into the store and what did my eyes see There in front of me was a little japanese man putting copies of THE BOUNCER on the shelf,,,I almost knocked him over,,,"Gome ne sai" The guy told me ZOE would be out in FEB 2001 with a playable copy of METAL GEAR SOLID 2...I can see a line forming already just for the demo and not ZOE...lol..I will check on GT3 when I go back to the store tommorow,,,OH yeah I must be the luckiest guy alive,,my girlfriends brother works for sony in JAPAN,,,lol....I GET ALL THE SCOOPS.

i am not a big beat them up fan but this games looks FAR more than just a beat them up.

Post by: on December 30, 2000, 03:52:12 AM: The gameplay is well organized it feels as if you are watching a full cinema movie,,and when the movie gets to a certain part it switched to the fight scenes,,,there is no slowdown,,its and all out brawl,,,before you fight you get to pick a character to play with , the more you pick of the same character the more you know about him,,cutscenes from his past will start to play as the game progresses as well as the other two characters also. I\'m still having problems with picking up stuff to throw, also besides gaining points in life,defense and power,,there is a list of special moves in which you have to gain towards in points,,so that too is a challenge,,,once you get them down then the real action begins with power moves and bone crushing blows.

I remember when the ps2 launch happened in JAPAN and yours truly was out there in the blistering cold,,me and my NEO GEO POCKET and some of my japanese friends,,it was hella cold,,but what gamer wouldnt want to be one of the first...WHEN I got my ps2 I let out a mighty roar in the store "SON OF JAREL KNEEL BEFORE ZOD" (line from superman 2..remember?}...lol

Post by: on December 30, 2000, 12:43:20 PM: Ok gamers here is the review for the THE BOUNCER from my first day of playing. I\'m not a professional writer so please bare writer. I will go ahead and knock out the 1 thing I dislike about the game first and that is in the 1 portion in the control. When you are controlling your character and are beating up on somone, its hard to change back and forth..example is this I will be beating up on someone and another bad guy will hit me from behind,,so instead of having a quick turn button you have to manuver your character around to start beating this person up.This gets pretty hectic when the screen has about 8 badguys on it.

The analog stick it a great control device,,you barely have to touch it to move your character back and forth. I will now explain the meaning behind the button pressure during play. You can punch and kick with the triangle button..how you say?..all by the amount of pressure you place on the button,,if you tap the triangle button 3 times your fighter will do a 3 hit combo..now if you press and hold the triangle button your character will perform a kick. If you press down a little harder that a tap on the triangle button your character will do another move...and this applies to all of the other 4 button, so there is like 3 moves for each button,,,takes awhile to get used to it.

The sound in the game rocks especially if you have a dolby surround system. Every little sound is recorded from the raindrops on the roof while you are engaging in a fight to the bass sound of slamming someone into the ground..way cool, and the vibration on the controller gets a A+ from me.

The options in the game comes from changing the game english with english subtitles, engish without subtitles, english with japanese subtitles{thats how the game is set when you first play} japanese with english subtitles and japanese with japanese subtitles and so on. There is a section in the options where you can set the pressure on the buttons from high medium and low. I set this to low since I usually press hard anyway, this comes in handy so you can learn the pressuring of each button command. Unfortunately I did not see a option where you can adjust the level difficulty,,but who cares about that right?

The modes of play come in 3 main parts The story mode in which you pick 1 of the 3 bouncers, the vs mode in where you can play with 4 people if you have multitap. Also in the vs mode comes with a team battle and a battle royal mode for pure mayem. Then there is the survival mode in where you pick 1 of the 3 main characters, if you notice in the survival mode there is about 20 extra slots for secret characters..WOO HOO!!..so the replay value is high as you work towards the, secret people,,,me I want to unlock that badazz red head girl from the story mode with the double d\'s and the funny hairdo,,she\'s hot...lol. I have not played the survival mode much only enough to tell you about it.

The gameplay is great and you will have a blast playing it, especially with friends. Great beat\'em up party game. When you are playing the story mode you get the option to switch characters before the fight..great for when you need your highest level guy,,oh yeah you build up their strength,defense and power levels thruout the game and when you get high enough you get a ranking in which opens up a arsenal of moves for your character and you have to build up each move too,,,for example,,theres a powerslam move in which I have not opened up yet its like 3000 points and I believe when you get there it will be a special move you can pick and that will let you use the other button on the controller for your special moves. Thruout the game you will do more than just beat people up..yes my fellow gamers there are mini games. Certain actions in the game require you to find things like keycards and so on. There are alot of options in this part cause when you choose a character or switch to another character you follow their story,,and their mini games..so alot of replay value there. You just gotta get this game,,each character has strengths and weaknesses to balance the game the 2 smaller ones have quick moves and are fast but they are not thats strong until you build them up, the big guy has alot of power moves but is slow until you build him up.

On to the graphics of the game, before you pop in the cd make sure you have a nice box of kleenex next to your side,,the graphics will bring tears to your eyes,,,sniff ..(hold while I wipe my eyes please..sniff)...sigh.....ok I\'m better now..while you are in the heat of battle there are no slowdowns at all and when you gang up on someone(I\'m still trying to figure out how I did it) the camera will switch and do a matrix style cut scene with whatever move you did,,,way cool.

Well I hope this gives you a better glimpse of whats to come, so I advise you all to go out and get this game when it comes out, or if you have a import ps2 then why are you reading this,,go get the import and play the game in english. I will let you know more secrets as I find them, but usually some things are added and taken out when games go from japan to the american console.. FAREWELL fellow gamers and have a HAPPY 2001!!

Post by: on December 30, 2000, 02:37:24 PM: I have not had any problems with my ps2 just 2 weeks ago a new version ps2 came out in japan,,this one has a dvd remote and the dvd drivers are already in the game, I\'m suprised so many people are having problems from what I have been reading in the forum so far. PS2\'s are kinda on hold in Japan now so SONY can get them to the other countries,,,makes since cause ps2 been out about a yr in Japan so the hype is over here. So the new batch of ps2\'s will include a dvd remote,,,arrrgghh,,,I had to buy one and you wont have to put the memory card in to play the dvd games. Here is a cool pic of ZOE

Post by: on December 31, 2000, 01:52:55 AM: I just finished the story mode of the bouncer and I must say with all honesty that the story mode is short but you will want to play it again going thru it again to finish it with other bouncers to see a different story.Once you finish the game a options comes up and its called EXTRA GAME. That lets you play the story mode again with the powered up character,,perhaps more options will become available then,,,OH yeah the closing song is sweeeeet,,,,its performed by Shanice Williams for all of you who know her. THE ENDING also shows graphic art cenema pics...cool...but I won\'t spoil it gamers,,,..GAME ON!!!

Man, looking from the pics you provided this game really kick some booty :wedge:
So, how long in hrs did it take for you to finish the story mode? Does the length of the story would be considered as what you had in mind?

Post by: on December 31, 2000, 03:18:30 AM: ok yes the story mode is about a hour to 2 hours long if you skip the cinemas,,and there are alot of cinemas,,,but when you finish the game go to the extra game option and you play with the character that you beefed up, so you will be playing story mode about 6 times total to get all 3 bouncers beefed to their max I would say,,yeah I got the game yesterday..but I still need to do the survival mode which I doubt has any secrets. Each character has about 6 special moves total, I just gotta get the whole game complete otherwise I would not have anything else to talk about in here,,,hehe...oh yeah I remember streets of rage,,I had that for my sega genesis,,,oh the days of 8 bit. GAME ON!!

Post by: on December 31, 2000, 04:49:25 AM: 2 hours...... hmm.... I usually finished Streets of Rage 1, 2 or 3 in about 30-40 minutes in normal/hard mode. Hey, it\'s like playing 3 games at once :D
I hope my PS2 would stay up healthy for The Bouncer day (somewhere in march that is). Reading the posts about their PS2 stop working creeps me out. \'cos I got a US PS2 and living in UK with a 90 day US warranty ( minus 2 weeks since i got it :crap: ). I invest over $600 for this baby.
If it does stay healthy, YIPPPEEE YAAA YAAAYYY!!!! Well of course I have to stay healthy as well :facelick:

Post by: on December 31, 2000, 08:53:46 AM: I will act as a Japanese/American correspondant, bringing updates on the ps2 and the ps2 games from Japan, that way I can keep the forum all informed of whats coming to the ps2,,that is if those magazine guys are\'nt there again to beat me first,,,lol....yeah...I saw some guys from DAILYRADAR.COM in Japan. I think that was them,,they have a bunch of pics on their website about the ps2 launch. When MGS 2 launches in Japan, yours truly will be there...I hope it isn\'t cold again...woo hoo

Also depending on the language setting when you complete the game you will get the english song or the japanese song,,,both are sweeet!!!Somehow there is a way to unlock special stages so when you play vs mode you get to choose a stage,,,I\'m working on that part now. GAME ON!!!

O yeah, been meaning to ask you about this, there are some pre-rendered graphics (FMVs)cut scene right? Is it just the Opening and at the ending or some in the middle as well? Are there any FMV in the story mode? And would you prefer FMV or Real Time rendered graphics? And in your last post, is the picture on the top an FMV or real time? \'cos if it is not FMV, then W:eek:W , look at that hair rendered in real time!!

Post by: on December 31, 2000, 02:37:03 PM: Theres is a hmmmm I say about 12 fmv cut scenes and the rest is realtime,,,I\'m telling you the graphics are unbelieveable in realtime,,,oh yeah my real ,ahem,,,girlfried is already tired of me playing..but my ahem...(ECHINADA)..game girlfriend wants me to play more,,,a couple of the scenes remind me about ff7 when cloud layed that girl in the lake,,,remember that scene?...sniff...mostly all of the explosions are in fmv and the rest are realtime...that pic above is realtime..cool huh? shows the unstoppable power that the playstation 2 is capable of tapping into. Personally I like FMV,,especially if they are FF7/8 TYPE MOVIES. The second time you play the game its get hella hard,,my BOUNCER is already maxed on his power so I ust use the others to try and max them too.

Post by: on January 01, 2001, 10:54:53 AM: Well me personally I would buy it, it all depends on what type of gamer you are I think. The game itself is not a true RPG. Its based more on fighting and following a story. You will spend hours getting your Bouncer\'s to their full maximum power. I went thru the story mode about 3 times to get 1 Bouncer to his full power, and I just did different things in the game to see different results and to see a different story. Plus all the secret characters you get are cool...when you beat the story mode the 2nd time you get the characters plus the 2 version of the final boss. When you beat the game the 3rd time you get the 3rd version of the boss.Oh and I found out how to get that cool Matrix movies trick, when another bouncer uses his taunt method you gotta hit your taught method right after that. I\'ll try to get a picture of this cool effect.

Then, how about survival mode? Will that do? Or is it just a different thing, just to reveal secret characters? Man, it\'s still 2+ months to go and look\'it my questions. And about the Matrix move, now how you gonna take a snap at that? Pause it? Can you do it in a three way dance? And can you use the revealed characters in the story mode? If you can then the story is gonna be massive.... I\'m doing it again aren\'t I? Hehhh..... there goes the left foot... MMPPHHTTT..... :hold:

Post by: on January 01, 2001, 04:58:31 PM: I dont think you can use any of the secret characters in the story mode and you only can get bouncer points to build up your bouncer in the story mode,,the survival mode is just there to play with your beefed up bouncers and the secret characters aleady come with their special moves. Yes to do the trinity rush you have to pay attention while playing,,when you are beating up on someone and you hear 1 of the other 2 bouncers say their taunt you immediatly hit your tautn button and it will start..easy for me now. My camera has like a speed shot option that lets you take about 5 pics a sec..cool huh

Wooohooo, im so happy now. had to wait a week for the importer to get (bloody holidays and all)

i got my PS2 hooked up to a wide screen grundig (via scart) and a dobly digital sound system. This game rocks.
i cant wait to see what Square do with FFX!!!!

As The Bouncer said, it takes about 2 hours per character in story mode if you skip the cinemas, but why would you, they are so sweet!!!! you just wanna watch them over an over.
It brings tears to my eyes.

Anyone notice the homage payed to the FF series????
For example, the cactus character on Volt\'s Jacket (from FFIX)????

BTW, those of you with Japanese consoles who buy The Bouncer (jap version), may want to use the Japanese voice overs and english subtitles.

Post by: on January 02, 2001, 04:13:07 PM: YIIPPEEEE, today I just popped in to my favorite videogame store and suddenly my eye caught something very shiny..... it\'s.... it\'s.... ooh yeaah.... it\'s The Bouncer!! And next to it was a PS2 Jap version, and without hesitation I just asked the store keeper to play The Bouncer just to see the demo, boy was he kind, he gave me the controller and let me try it a bit.
Man, everything was like in slow motion..... Just look at that graphics.... nothing like I\'ve ever seen before.... sniff... sniff... :crying: good thing I took THE BOUNCER\'s advice to bring a Klenex when playing this game :D . When I got to the option menu, everything was in Japanese, so I just switched some choices and voila!! English!! IT\'S GAME TIME!!!
The cinematic scenes were incredible, but then after a few minutes kicking some Mikados\' butts one of the Mikado\'s kicked my butt and got beaten :boom: DOH!! Then a scene where Mugetsu kidnapped Dominique, just before he leaped out the window, man, look at Dominique\'s emotion, looks like the Emotion Engine is cookin\'.
Too bad I got a US PS2 and by living in the UK, gonna take some more time to see US ver. The Bouncer on that store\'s shelf. You see, this is the only store in London that also sells Imported games and consoles, from the good ol\' Atari, the most popular PS2. It was great while it lasted. Dominique\'s voice is very sexy, in Japanese and in English :facelick: .
Shintaro, I have a feeling that you\'re living in London too :p

It would seem the main thing to change: the language, is already done so it shouldn\'t be as big a hassle to convert it. Oh well it might just be wishful hinking because I want this game so much.

1. Square

2. Graphics

3. Gameplay

I don\'t mind if it doesn\'t last so long. I think it\'s a game that you can complete various times even with beefed up bouncers :)

Hey, have you played Suikoden 2? If you did, you should notice that the game requested a saved file from the first Suikoden. Luckily I still have it and used it. So most probably that the future Square game that would request this saved file is its sequel.... The Bouncer 2!! :D
