I got a used PS2 off somebody and of course it didn\'t come with any user\'s manual. When I go to play DVDs, the parental control setting will not let most DVDs play. I asked my friend for the code but he says he doesn\'t remember setting it. Does the user set the passcode, or does each unit have a pre-programmed passcode? In either case, how can I change the passcode or get a new one, or reset all the settings to default ... or do anything else that might help me?
Thanx.

Try this code in the parental settings menu "7444"....it might be different for other consoles, but this one was in my manual....once you get in, turn that sh*t off, it\'s annoying......

I went through that same nightmare when I first got my PS2. The parental controls were on by default. I didn\'t even notice it until I popped in an R-rated movie (Braveheart I seem to recall). If I remember correctly, hit the Select button on your controller, and choose the Setup option. Disable all of the parental controls from there. The "7444" code is universal for all American PS2s.....it\'s the last-resort emergency PIN. I think the way I got the settings to stay was to play the inserted movie for a while and then stop it and put the console into standby. Whenever I resetted it immediately after disabling parental control, it would enable itself all over again.

ok thanks for the tip - hopefully that will work

Yeah...seriously...I mean...WTF!?!?!? It asked me for a parental control on X-Men...what the hell??? I just kept leaving my PS2 on standby after I turned off parental so that it wouldn\'t reset what I did...:eyemouth:
