I really hate final fantasy. It has pre rendered backgrounds but my big beef is the stupid camera angles and the screen fading everytime I go to different rooms.
-
I hate you! So there!
-
its good that it has pre-rendered backgrounds, on PSX they offered much more detail than polyonal backgrounds, i would hope that FFX and FFIX are polygonal though, camera angles are usually from above and let you see everything needed, and on the world map it is adjustable, the screen fading is a way to disguise loading (im guessin) because you can hear the CD start up
p.s. i hate you
-
HOW CAN YOU SAY THAT BOBS_Hardware!THE BACKROUND IS AWSOME!THE CHARACTERS MAY ONLY BE FF7 GRAPHICS BUT THOSE ARE GOOD!
P.S.-I HATE GAME HATERS!
-
Chracters look much better than FF7 Characters, for heavens sake, Cloud looked like he had plastic hair. I admit making Zidane part monkey was a bad idea, but Amarant(who I have yet to get, but looks cool none the less) and ViVi more than compensate for the error. BTW, doesn\'t Dagger look a lot like Rinoa from FFVIII?

what exactly did i say to make you fly off the handle?
-
I disagree with you, but good pionts.

Well, that\'s your opinion Cax88 and i respect it, but i think that Final Fantasy is one of the best series, if not the best.
First of all, i\'m gona talk about FF VII/ VIII/ IX cos your complaints are refered to those ones:
Square had 2 main reasons to choose prerendered backgrounds instead of realtime 3D environments. The massive detailed prerendered backgrounds add a magic ambient to the game that\'s impossible to reproduce with the limited hardware of the original PSX. And secondly, it gives you the oportunity to place emotional camera angles to the scenes.
Do you remember the spiral staircase in the Shinra\'s mansion of Niebelheim?. It representes the fall into the madness of Sephiroth. Everytime you go downstairs it\'s like entering into a new world( the mind of Sephiroth), that it\'s also related with Cloud\'s past.
That scenary is obviously related with the ultimate scenary of the game. Again, a spiral that goes down into the earth, and again Square wanted to transmit the feeling of entering into a new world( a world of chaos and madness). And you could find hundreds of little details like these in all the series :).
-
I hate you Cax88. Final Fantasy is awesome.
-
I have no clue why you would say that, but I\'m guessing you have your reasons, but also for the sake of all the final fantasy fans out there including myself
KEEP YOU OPPINIONS TO YOURSELF!!!!!

If your only bones with the series are of material things such as graphics, than you are kinda dumb. I personally tthought they used some very good camera angles and the grpahics were as best they could get from the 32 bit chugger.
My beef with the newest ones are the hackneyed plots and plot twists, the lack of character development, holes in stories (Red 13 has children?, etc.), IMO they just can\'t stnad up to the NEs and SNES Final Fantasies of yore, but ala those days are gone and new series have entered into my life. There are also some that can continue to surprise me to this day. Such as PSO, DQ7 (or DW7), Grandia 2, et.c Now, I am praying for a new Lunar game, now THAT would be awesome. But only if I don\'t have to buy a new system to play it on :)

the pros and cons of pre-rendered background and realtime polygons.
prerendered:
pros:
amazing realistic detail
coloful and looks lifelike.
eye candy
cons:
2-d only
low resolution for psx (somewhere around 320 x 240 for the screen area when view.) blurry.
polygons:
pros:
3-d
can be stretch and enlarge for higher resolution with no pixelation at all! zoom in and zoom out without any problems the polygons won\'t be blocky or pixelated.
if games run at 320 x 240 or lower, you can convert it to 640 x 480 and higher with more megabytes of vram with support more color higher resolution and better texturing and filtering bump map, mip mapping, anti-anializing... that means polygons can runs at high resolutions without being pixelated or blocky.
cons:
there arent any if you have high ends polygon munching machine
but for psx: longer load time
crappy texturing
jaggies
bumby background
low resolution
frame drop when more polygons are added exceeding the psx limit.
that\'s why the polygons are so important. the definition of prerendering is using polygons over and over again, (sometimes as much as thousands of time) to make one image lifelike and detail with more of mb v-ram and powerful hardware. but it will not be playable, it will convert into a movie file. like mpeg which usually run around 320 x 240p @ 30 hz. and it cannot be switch to higher resolution or frame rate because it was already save into mpeg format and that is done.
but in realtime, that\'s different! low resolution polygons can runs at high resolutions and higher frame rate, from 30 fps to 60 fps if you have a powerful machine and it will be improve. also, don\'t forget it can do texturing, and other effects with polygons with added meg og vrams. but prerendered image can be improve in high resolution or convert to higher frame rate. but video movie and 2-d games that use sprite cannot be improve at all when convert to high res and cannot convert higher frames. big downside...
if you have no clue what i was saying. then oh well...anyway, i think its fine to have prerendered background in ff7. but you can ***** about it for ff8. long load time and boring storyline makes me feels tiresome. gameplay isn\'t as good as ff7...

cax88
To be able to pull off the humongous worlds in FF sacrafices had to be made. Square just didn\'t have a machine capable of the kind of polygon worlds you are hoping for.
its already been said that FFX is a full polygon game, and that really should thrust the FF series into the next gen. All that is necessary is storyline and character development
-
Cax88: I just wanted to commend you on how well you pulled that one off. I\'m glad that atleast some people on this forum can keep their cool. Anyways, did you read the preview for FFX? It\'s strange, did you notice that the mentioned characters names are actually mostly Japanese this time around? (ie., Yuna, Ryugo...I don\'t know where the hell Hero Tide got his name from....) which is wierd because square has refrained from giving characters Japanese names in the past (probably to keep oversea interests up). I don\'t know, it\'s nothing. It just caught my eye while I was reading it and I thought for some stupid reason I would share it with you.

i agree with U
however there is one thing that does not make sense, u say with prerendered backgrounds u can place emotional camera angles to the scene, but if is the other way around, cause if you have pre rendered backgrounds, you can only view the scene from one angle, this might be a good angle, but still, you can\'t choose, if you\'d use polygonal realtie backgrounds you could place the camera at the very same angle and get the same emotional value, but you can also choose to change the view to another angle, so with realtime backgrunds you can do the same and more!!!

Who can hate Final Fantasy??? Oh my god..!
-
How could you hate FF cax? the FF games are awsome!
-
Um... I don\'t fancy Final Fantasy much, either.
Nooo! Don\'t slaughter me. I just think the game is boring (when I say \'the game\' I\'m referring to my only copy of a FF game - FF7). I realize lots of people think FF7 is one of the best (RPG) games ever, but I cannot see why. The graphics seem fine, so that\'s not the problem - I just think the gameplay is BORING and SLOW. Perhaps I should play it some more one day - perhaps I\'ll then change my opinions on the game. But right now I still stand by my statements. :)
-
If FFX was to have the 3D backgrounds would they look as nice as the prerendered ones? Even better?
-
I like the Final Fantasy Series very much I have 7,8,9,anothology,and tactics. BUT 7,8,9 stories are screwed in the ass. No offense to anyone but a sorceror trying to merge 2 worlds...ummm no. and Evil power cooperation trying to rule the world through fear. Jesus christ I mean Shinra even went to war I mean what the crap. hehe and Zidane\'s people are vessels and...man this is twisted...but overall I like to the bad guy\'s ass with my Knights of the round,or my Lion Heart limit, errr....or my absolute 9 or whatever it\'s called(FF9 limits sucks except for Zidane)...they all havr their drawbacks Tactics needs more Useful job classes. along with a little longer story. Final Fantasy 6(also 3 on Super nintendo) is my personal Favorite and I see nothing wrong with it except the graphics and maybe the story. and they all need a BETTER freaking ending even 6 no more esper IT\'S NOT FAIR poor espers
-
Ack, be careful with the FFIV spoilers. You should have warned me about it.
On topic, FF is my fav. series of all time, I don\'t know how you can think it sucks.
-
well, i think they should have kept the futuristic touch to ff, like in ff VIII in esthar, now ffIX is kinda like "what if the past has taken the second road", ya know with the old-fashioned design on airships and stuff.
but FF RULEZ especially 10 because of the rendered backgrounds that look better than any previous ps1 versions. Also, did you hear that ffXI on xbox will be playable online with the ps2 version? cool, huh!

I\'m with you all the way on that Sam. I bought 7 and 8 the day they came out. And I have yet to finish either one of them. They just bore me. Its not to say they are a bad game series. Just don\'t interest me.
Not everyone can like FF. Just like not everyone can adore the CastleVania series as much as I do.
Its a simple matter of personal taste and opinion.
:)

I agree with the first guy. Every FF i have ever played, i am currently using for frisbees! And by the way, you cant talk about a BEST EVER series without mentioning "The Legend of Zelda" series. I think Nintendo has had Squaresoft beat since day one. Long live Zelda!
P.S
You guys should stop waisting time with RPGs. try a real time game! They\'re where its at!

Yes, in the original PSX you could use emotional angles, but you still have lack of details, deformed pixelated textures, trembling polys, etc. That spoils the effect. And you\'ve said it, even with a real-time camera system, if you want to transmit the artist intention you must use a static camera angle( or cut-scenes).

I think, that the only thing that Square should maintain in the series is the idea of a definitive story about the life and the death. If it has a pseudo-futuristic or a pseudo-medieval look( both are fantasy worlds), it doesn\'t matter cos that\'s not the essence of the series.

I used to think Final Fantasy sucked ass. But now that i have seen the light i will be getting the 2 PS2 versions of the games when they come out.

I love Final Fantasies...
Is everything about graphics?
No. Some really good points \'bout FF:
-Good Storyline ( every time )
-Large in size ( should I say HUMONGUOUS? )
-Good Graphics ( FF8 for example; and FF7 is kinda good too )
and so many more...
The graphics are the least. The most important things in a game I look forward to are these ( in this order ):
-Gameplay
-Storyline
-Music
-Atmosphere
-Sounds
-Graphics
and so forth ( I\'m not sure if I missed something here )
