Yes its true, swedish Ericsson is releasing a console (like a GB).
Aftonbladet (a swedish newspaper) says that its gonna be better than GameBoy Advanced. There are no specifications avalible yet, the whole project is pretty secret.
Maybe its worth a look :)

Yeah, Nintendo\'s loveable Gameboy advanced is defeated already!
-
It might be interesting but I don\'t think it\'s a good move for Ericsson they should consintrade on getting good games on the 3G phones instead of releasing an handheld to compete with the GBA.
-
Yeah right. This think will not be better that GBA. Besides, Nintendo is a much bigger company. Ericsson isn\'t even a game company. The mighty GB is not defeated. Don\'t flame me, I\'m not a N fanboy, you should all know that by now. I just like my GBC and am looking foward to the GBA.
-
Ummm Ericsson is huge it\'s the 2nd biggest mobile phone company in the world after Nokia.
-
And what is it called? I\'d like to see some info!
-
Defeat the GBA?
Um. Okay....
Ericsson is not a game company. They have no clue about launching a handheld console. Which is even more difficult then launching a fullblown console. Why? Simple, Nintendo has a monopoly on the handheld market. The Gameboy has legions of fans. They would have to out do it.
- It is destined to be the Indreama of handhelds! No hype around it. The GBA is getting all the hype.
- They can\'t attract big developers like Konami. Which brings me to the point. How are they going to get big name titles on it? Like CastleVania? They won\'t more and likely.
- No specifictions yet, but it is suppose to defeat the GBA? Bit of a premature prediction.
- Nintendo knows how to handle the handheld market , better then any other company.
No. I\'m not a fanboy. Hell, I only own the old version of the Gameboy and 4 games for it. 3 of which I\'ve lost somewhere. But I will be importing a GBA. Its basically a portable SUPER NES. How can you not want that?
I\'m not trashing Ericsson\'s handheld either. Simply saying, the chances of it being bigger then the GBA isn\'t very high.
-
A portable would be great if it had a 90" screen. I just can\'t play on little screens anymore..
-
Lol, you guys are getting worked up about ... pretty much nothing. Who cares if they launch a new handheld (which I doubt until I see it)? They can\'t compete with Nintendo in that area - they\'re like the Windows of handhelds. :)
BTW, I think Ericsson should use more energy on their cell phones so they\'d actually make money instead of loosing them. ;)
-
Chrono is making a new handheld too!
Its called the "Cross Legend" handheld, its as powerfull as the playstation! lol
I wish the GBA was as powerfull as the playstation one
-
Too bad it launches in March. I bet I end up spending money importing a GBA instead of buying PS2 games.
:(

I hate gameboy, i hate handhelds. the end
oh yeah nothing could be worse than games on a cell phone. People who just talk on them while driving already cause accidents. Playing games on them is just plain stupid and dangerous. Now I know somebody is going to say "Games aren\'t meant to be played on them while driving" , but the fact of the matter is that people will and they will cause auto accidents.
It is a bad idea period
-
Ericsson is SECOND to Nokia ? and where does Motorola fit into this ? i thought it was Motorola first largest and the Nokia or vice versa..BAH !!! it doesnt matter, Ericsson doesnt know squat about making games..im 100% sure its not even true..i wonder how much GBA can get..GBA already has SNES graphics on the go..what is so called Ericsson\'s SECRET handheld system going to have ? Playstation graphics ?

Hmm, I disagree with you here. I mean then ANYTHING is a bad ideĆ”. Newpapers can also be read while driving, thus causing accidents...
Games on cell phones is a good idea - if used while not driving. ;)

Motorola\'s cell phones are absolutely horrible (ok, perhaps not horrible, but they\'re ugly and have a stupid menu system).
I\'m not too sure about the size of the companies, but perhaps Motorola is the biggest if counting ALL the stuff they make instead of just the cell phone manufacturing? Well, I don\'t know for sure. I just think Nokia and Ericsson are far superior.

This is one of the funniest threads I\'ve ever read. Don\'t believe in Swedish papers, Fastson :)
Ericsson even mentioned in the same text as GBA?!?
I even wonder why they did games to cell phones; it\'s stupid. Who buys a Cell Phone for games?
Well, Nokia\'s Worm-game is a cult-classic around here; there was even finnish champion named for the best record!
Crazy isn\'t it? But Ericsson making a handheld?

...can\'t stop ...

Joyda: Look on Aftonbladet\'s site if you dont beleve me. (www.aftonbladet.se and look on the IT section) Even SuperPlay (swedish game mag) reported it, so its true.
Maybe its a new handheld "console" like the GB or maybe its a new Cell phone with games, I dont know. The project is still very secret.
Hmm, maybe my bro knows. He works at Ericsson :D

PS: Ill ask him.
-
is there any image of this new cellular?
-
I\'m a big handheld fan.
I have a gbc w/ a Bung Doctor GB Xchanger and a couple of games, right now. (I\'m going to sell it for money for Gba soon)
But, I can\'t wait for the gba to come out. The power of a Super Nintendo (even more) in a handheld! I\'m thinking of playing Super Metroid Advanced, the new Zelda, Castlevania, Mario Kart, F-Zero, etc... all on a handheld (possibly with internet stuff, too). All of those SNES on a handheld (plus new games, of course).
Pretty much any other handheld is going to be crushed by it. There are already a few other companies coming out with ones, and its pretty safe to say that they\'ll become NUONs and Indreamas of the handheld market.
-
Nokia is the biggest and Ericsson 2nd and Moto 3rd but it\'s really close between Moto and Ericsson.Ericsson has greatly improved their cellphones since they intridused their T28 series better menu system etc..
But Nokia continues to have the best cellphones around I absolutly love my 8210..79 grams of goodness;):D
And Sam I agree the menu system on Motorola\'s is horrible to say the least.
-
Now is this thing a Cell phone with games on it or a handheld console that you can make phone calls with? There IS a difference.
-
I like handhelds but really I don\'t trust Ericsson in that subject!
They have no experience at all in game-business, so that must be a ho-hum rumor.
GBA is my choice all over Ericsson\'s \'Boy; even if Ericsson\'s \'Boy would be better in graphical push.
Wich will have more developers? Weeeeeelll... that\'s really worth a *think* eh?
-
Sony didn\'t have any experience in gaming before the PSX, so I guess Ericsson could pull it of too. I\'d like to hear more about the project though, before saying too much about it - because I don\'t think they would have a chance if their product was aiming directly for GBA.
-
Ericsson pulling it off?
I\'d like to see that.
But if the handheld survives and sells well then Nokia\'ll have to make up one too. The race is tough between those two.
I still remember when Nokia made boots :)

Who here remembers this?

this was Tiger electronics lame attempt at trying to dethrone the gameboy a few years back... they had tons of ads on TV for this thing..... it really sucked... they even had a Duke Nukem game on it which i believe blowed chunks.....
you can\'t mess with the pros... Nintendo is a pro... who cares if Nintendo\'s product is technically inferior to Ericssons\'s..... you just can\'t compete.... this is like Maytag trying to compete with Boeing to make rockets and space stuff.....

I think Nokia has more gaming experiance than Ericsson I mean c\'mon the graphics in snake were a heck of alot better than the graphics in Tetris and Snake was running at a solid 60 frames per second:D
