Ok, Ok. I know they say there is no such thing of a stupid question but this is my first time owning a Playstation at the age of 26. I recently purchased a PS2 and it rocks!
After surfing ebay to buy some games, I see PS2 & PSX. Is it the same stuff or what? I know the difference from the PS & the PS@ but what gives. Please don\'t consider me a goof ball. Thanks Ace!

Most of the PS2 games will be DVD format the rest will be CD-ROM (I think the origional PS was ROM format. Dont quote me)
Anybody correct me if im wrong. Im not completely sure

PSX1 games don“t work in PS2 and viceversa
-
NO!
My question is:
What is PSX?
I know what PS2 is, that is what I purchased. I just need to know if PSX is just another abbreviation for PS2.

PSX is ps1 , and ADAN ps1 games dont work in ps2 !? well then how can i play smackdown 2 on my ps2 , unless psx isnt ps1 and i have been wrong this whole time .

PSX/PSONE/PS are all the same thing. The original PS.
PS2 is the Playstation 2.
You can play your PS games on your PS2.

Well, I see that I\'m not getting my question across very well.
I know what PS2 is. And I know I can play the regular playstation games in my new PS2.
My question is: What does the abberviation PSX stand for?
-
It stands for Playstation = PSX
The X is just there, like Malcolm X
-
PSX = PS = PSone = PlayStation
PS2 = PlayStation 2
PSX is just the codename for PlayStation before it was released. It has stuck with it ever since, so many people just write PSX instead of PS.

Similar to Honda\'s project car, NSX. They were going to name it something else but decided to keep the project name.
And like the Playstation :
Prior to the Playstation\'s debut several years ago, people working on the PSX Project called the console by its project name: PSX, and was later quoted by magazines.
The name stuck. But as fate would have it, X can also mean "number". And now that Sony is going to keep the Playstation name, you can say X marks the beginning. PS2 is the current platform, PS3 is the next....and so on. PSX just turned out to be the appropriate name for the next generation of Sony\'s consoles.
