I just hooked my ps2 up to a sony surround sound system (cost around $500, That sounds like a lot but believe me it\'s worth it) Anyways the sound is breathtaking it\'s like your playing a totally different game when u get the speakers hooked up. If your like me your gonna spend hours and hours in front of your ps2, and those hours are a feast for your eyes but why don\'t you let your ears have a little fun too> Trust me save up your $$$$$$ and buy a surround sound system, You won\'t be dissappointed!.

THERE IS NO NEED TO YELL!!!!!!!!!!! But he is right it does sound great. I have mine hooked up via the optical cable to a Digital receiver and it sounds great. Wooo Hooo
-
I don\'t think I ever really realized just how annoying all caps looks..
Yes it sounds good. I just hope that one day we\'ll have digital audio with PS2 games. For those of you who are just getting into DVD and have a dolby digital setup. You have to get or rent the IMAX movie called Super Speedway. Just imagine Gran Tourismo with this type of Surround. By far one of the best movies to feel enveloped by the sound with.
-
I saw that movie at Six Flags Great America on their giant IMAX screen. It is amazing on the IMAX screen.
Also, there aren\'t any DD games for PS2 yet are there? I\'ve only seen games that have Pro Logic.
-
I have friends over now watching Gladiator via the PS2 using DTS thru the reciever and my house was just shaking for the opening battle
-
How does Madden sound on Surround Sound? And do you have to get monster cables or Sumthin\'?
-
It\'s great what the PS2 could potentially do for DVDs. I bought a Laser disc player back in 93 and have never rented a VHS since. The quality of the DVD is only marginally better than laserdisc, but with anamorphic discs it is way better. Laser never really allowed that, at least not that I have seen. I digress. Hopefully prices will come down a bit with DVDs since so many people are getting dvd players now. I have bought all of my discs over the internet and average a little over 8 bucks a disc. It\'s getting harder to find deals now though.
My neighbors always know what movie I am watching. Although I usually turn it down a bit for porn. They have kids.....
-
You don\'t HAVE to use Monster Cables, they are just made better and are supposed to sound and look better.
-
D00de, you don\'t have to brag about that your system costed 500$, because that is v e r y little.
Just my reciever costed me about 500$. Sub? Of course. 300$. Speakers? Yes. 750$ Center? Always. 150$
EEEKKKSS!! That makes 1700$. Damn... Well, I didn\'t buy everything at the same time :).
And then we haven\'t talked about the tv... Jeeeeeessus Ch...
But yeah, it makes a difference. :D
-
Let\'s not get into the cost of systems please. Hell, my remote costs as much as your system did..
-
Yeah, sorry, that was really immature...
But I worked my @$$ of this hole summer, and I spent the weekends to deliever junk-mail all over my town, so I am really glad over my system, and I think it is really great!
It\'s my first system, and I am just 17!
Heh, my mom keeps tellin\' me that I am just like me dad (where are you?!?!?!?!?).
"This is a little song I wrote, y\'might want to sing it note for note so don\'t worry be happy.
In every life we have some troubles, when you worry you make it double, so don\'t worry, BE HAPPY!!"
-
I agree!!
Even if you just have a PSX/PSOne, get a SS system. Alot of games on PSX use the analog SS.
I got a JVC system (speakers and all included) was only $400 but it has a DD decoder and works fine.:)
I can\'t play it super loud anyway, my doggies FREAK...hahaha
-
My system was CHEAP! I\'m one of those "frugal" types, so it\'s hard to get me to spend money in any kind of quantity unless it\'s something that we just need (like we just bought a new Dell \'cause the ole PC just didn\'t cut it any more).
Anyways, for years I ran on a garage sale reciever that I found for $5. It was a Fisher Studio Standard something or other that had really good stats and just needed a little work. I think I put an extra $65 into it to get it running at peak performance. Since then I\'ve gotten a home theater reciever, but it was on sale and very much worth the cost. I think it took me two months to find one with all of the stuff I wanted and at the right price.

I\'ll be purchasing a sound system for my PS2 sometime soon. I\'m not going expensive or anything, I just want something that works well.
I\'ve been thinking of getting either the Playworks DTT2500 at $250, or the MidiLand 8200 for $300. Anybody have any other suggestions?

182Ways, just make sure it has a Dolby Digital decoder!! Don\'t get tricked by the wording.."Dolby Digital ready". That means you need any input device to supply the Dolby Digital decoder function, which PS2 will not do.:)

Good point. Make sure it has at least one Optical input. It has to have an optical or a Coax input to do DD, so just make sure it has these. To do PS2, it needs Optical. I think there may be an adapter, but since you haven\'t bought one, make sure it has optical.
This is the same thing as all of the digital ready tvs. You still have to get a tuner to get the digital TV channels..

i got the cambridge soundworks ps 2000 added on to my 1500 dollar tv with all the stuff in it (100hz, multi system, 7pc surround excluding ps2000 speakers, digital reality creation, freeze, zoom etc.) and trust me it\'s not worth a DIME (the ps2000). So i use my 7 pc. dolby instead.

And if you do get an optical cable for DD sound, don\'t worry about the brand. Go with the cheapest one you can find. You will find the best ones at a computer store that sells fiber optic connector. The same cable you will buy in a video store will be the same one at a computer store.
I payed like $12.00 bucks for one at a computer store that I would have payed like $40.00 bucks at a HIFI store.
there is almost not difference in fiber optic cable, well not at least at short distances.
peace

good ness , You guys are outta ur dang minds. Buying a sound system for 500 bucks or 1000 bucks etc etc. Sure it sounds great but shouldnt u spend the money on something more useful .........like donating it to the starving children of samalia (yup i know i didnt spell that rie) or donating it to the "Give Shingoku Money" charity? rofl aneways Im happy you guys are lucky enuff to have such great systems. I wish I could buy myself one but right now im just happy that I have a PS2 and a big tv........no not big screen but big enuff for me ...27 inch? 32 inch? something like that . Aneways Kudos to u guys with mind knumbing , ear drum shattering sound systems.

Buy your systems while you are young, working, and more than likely single. I bought quite a bit with my wife, but she likes to watch movies too. Now we are having a baby and let me tell you "Thank God I bought the stuff when I did!!!!"
Now we don\'t have to go to the movies because I have 100 inch screen with full surround, etc.. And I will always want to upgrade, but I don\'t have to.
We went to look at Day care for the baby yesterday and at 700 bucks a month my frivalous spending is almost out... This blows.. This whole kid thing better be worth it... That was a joke.. I know it will be worth it and I can\'t wait, but 700 bucks!!!!

I\'m a broke ass college student, too!
As soon as i get my financial aid money (yes, I know its about 4 months late... fucing government! they can\'t do jack shiat right!!) I will definetley get a system... nothing great.... maybe $300 max..... maybe i will look for a used one... i do have a 36in Wega XBR (my parents bought that one)....
can you guys throw around a good brand and low price for a system.... thanks for the help... i want my PS2 to rock!
this freakin black box under ym wega needs some good games, though!
-
I did the same exact thing as you, I used some of my financial aid money and bought a reciever. I bought the Sherwood rd 7106 from 800.com for $289. The reciever is 100watts per channel with DD and DTS. It also has s-video switching, 4 digital inputs(2coaxial, 2optical), and on screen display, something only really expensive recievers usually have. It is made really well too, weighing more than 30lbs. I guarantee you won\'t find a better reciever for less money.
