Title: Not a good sign.....
Post by: on January 05, 2001, 12:02:02 AM
Hearing a lot about PS2s going malfunction, I think mine is starting. Now when I play games, the PS2 starts to vibrate, quite strong. I tried putting the CD carefully but it didn\'t help. First time happened is when I play TimeSplitters. Any suggestion? I\'m in UK, it\'s a US PS2 and at horizontal position.

Where did you get the disk from? If it is a rental there might be a sticker on it that is throwing it off balance. Another thing could be that the PS2 is not on a level surface. The thing spins really fast and needs a nice flat surface to hold on to. I hope this helps. :)

Im running vertically with no stand and its fine.

When reading cds at times it can be noisy, but hey its like that.

Only once at the start it vibrated very hard and that was with madden 2001.

But its been fine after that.

doesn\'t it always vibrate little?

and make noises that you could think the machine\'s scratching the disks?

it never happens \'tho. My Ps2 has been perfect... expect for a minor freezing once. But that\'s just a beauty-spot so to speak :)

Crippler: does it stand on vertical pos. without those stands steadily? I wouldn\'t dare to do that because I have my little sister running around and she just could... well, you know what she could :)

ahhhh.....now lets just look at what you wrote.  You put it up vertically with no stand!  Come on man...havent you ever heard of gravity!  When it finally decided to lose balance and fall you are gonna be out of a Playstation 2!  Well good luck!

Hey ya know what, the only game that made my PS2 vibrate like that was only TimeSplitters. I tried my other games and they were fine, well normal vibration that is. How \'bout you guys who have TimeSplitters, NTSC or PAL.
I put it on top of my VHS covered with 1 mm of table-cloth (wait... is that the right word, ya know, the thing to cover the top of a table?). It\'s horizontal and no horizontal stand ( <-- Useless!!)
Lynx, yer right, I\'ll just turn off the vibrate mode off and voila, no more vibration.... in my hands that is :P

I think it was Thx that said his vibrated too...  He just wedged it between a couple of books.  Try making sure its level, and on a flat surface.  Well ok then

My PS2 has only locked up once, but I consider it a gift from God.  I was in the Playoffs on Madden and I was losing in the 4th quarter.  The thing froze up..  I reset and then kicked some Viking Ass.  I was thinking about reseting it anyway, but this way I didn\'t really cheat.  The world works in mysterious ways...

perhaps your Timesplitters CD is out of round and causing the vibration, especially if it only does it with that game.  Try exchanging the game first if it\'s really that bad or unplayable.  A warped disc could easily cause a rotation problem.

I had that problem once - I think it was Timesplitters too.
It started vibrating, so I turned it off and put the PS2 in horizontal position.I turned it on again, and had the same vibrating sound. Then I took out the disc and put it in again. Then it was normal finally. It never happened again. Strange. There must be something inside where the disc can whet sometimes.
