I\'m a little behind in this console game business.
I\'m playing Tomb Radier III on my PS2. I have a
aftermarket memory card for PS1, which has worked
perfectly on my PS2. The MadCatz memory card is not.
Symptom: Tomb Radier III said: no memory card plugged
in slot 1, unable to save game.
What is strange is I was able to format the MadCatz
card, and able to copy stuff from the PS1 card to
it perfectly fine. I tried to push the MadCatz
card into the slot as hard as I could, but still
refused to work (I would get the same error message
if my PS1 memory card wasn\'t plugged all the way in).
I haven\'t tried other games because TRIII is all I
have for now.
Help!!!

You have to use PS1 memory cards for PS1 games. And PSX2 games use the PSX2 memory card. They are not compatable with each other. I have two memory cards in my system right now.. One 8mb and one old one.
The 8mb is a sony one, and the old ps1 card is some aftermarket one, which I use to save final Fantasy 9 games.
I hope this helps you out..

IMO, NEVER buy anything other than Sony M/C\'s.

i had a list of the malfunctioning ps1 games (on ps2) posted earlier on and they were around 8 but this seems to be the first ps1 hardware not to work on ps2

Its not malfuctioning you just need to understand what I said...

yes, the madcatz 8M card is a PS2 card.
I guess I have no way to tell until I buy a PS2 game
and try saving it.

Never buy third party memory cards. They are "reverse engineered" for the most part. Therefor, it could be corrupt . Of course there is other reasons. That is just the first one that comes to mind. Basically, buy Sony memory cards only. And of course, use PS2 memory cards for PS2 games and PSone memory cards for Psone games.

Yes listen to Kirath. He speaks the truth. PS2 memory cards are not capable of saving ps1 games because the way its set up it different. The ps2 memory cards are no longer the 15 block format like the ps1 memory cards. So dont throw your old ps1 memory cards away just yet, you\'ll still need them. and YES THIRD PARTY memory cards suck.

when i get my ps2 im always gonna go with sony. no third party stuff for me.
but as kirath said: "You have to use PS1 memory cards for PS1 games. And PSX2 games use the PSX2 memory card. They are not compatable with each other. I have two memory cards in my system right now.. One 8mb and one old one. "

Only buy Sony licensed or Sony products for PS2. Mad Katz is unreliable. Always has. But their Dual Force 2 for PS2 is awesome though.

Yeah listen to kirath, only PS1 mem cards work with PS1 games, and PS2 with PS2. As for the mad catz mem cards for ps2, correct me if i am wrong but I think they are licensed by SONY and thus suppose have the same quality and is under the same warranty.
