There is one big reason why psx did so much better than nintendo. you all know it was obviously the number of good games. But why did it have so many more... because it took way longer to create a 64 game than it did a psx game and i mean way longer. This turned away the other developers into making a nintendo 64 game. Why make a game of the same quality on the 64 when you could do it ont he psx for less time money and effort.
And guess what... it takes 8 times longer to make a PS2 game than to make a Gamecube game. if this factor ruined the 64 i dont see why it can ruin PS2
Games like MGS and FF started on nintendo and when psx came along it attracted Square and konomi due to the quick producing periods and when gamecube arrives there is no reason why it cannot atract these titles back to Nintendo.

The Gamecube will no doubt be everything PSX was but only with better graphics, Mario, Zelda + Pokemon, and it\'ll look nicer! PS2 will be like N64, expensive, hard to develope for and the number of qaulity games will be slow because most developers will turn to GC/MS......hmm, PS2 will do good though.. it\'s already very popular.

hmmm...
PS2 still has advantages of its own; the graphical power isn\'t everything. There\'s this chip called Emotion Engine. There\'s lots of secrets left to be unveiled still, and we can\'t be sure what the game-developers are taking out of it. Hmmm... I haven\'t seen too many game-developers signing out of PS2 now so I\'m not worried.
I think GC will be a good success because it has corrected its mistakes, but there are things wich can bite the console back. Like the mini-dvd. Do you know why really they decided to use mini-dvd? Nintendo thought that mini-dvd will be more popular in the future than normal DVD; I can\'t really tell why not, but can\'t really tell why either. So it\'s either a minor mistake or a good decision. Don\'t know yet \'tho.
I think GC\'s launch won\'t be as good as PS2\'s. For one reason only. Because Nintendo has quite bad rep. ( well, where I live for instance ); ppl still think it\'s going to be another kiddish console. But they\'ll see it\'s not. And I hope it\'s going to be as cheap as promised... so I could afford to buy one :)
hmm.. you can\'t really say that GC will arise over PS2 yet because PS2 has big name and reputation, and developers ain\'t leaving the console. Remember that when developers fully know the console it won\'t take 8 times longer to do a PS2 game than GC game.

Depends. How is Nintendo going to handle the GC? I mean, they could just do what they do wiath the N64 and then release a few hits and there, but not many. If that is the case, then no, the GC won\'t be near as popular the PS2. But, if Nintendo corrects their previous marketing problems, then it could be.

I think Nintendo is on the right track. Have you seen the Conker\'s Bad Fur Day commercial?

Despite the period of time and higher level of difficulty to make just one game compared to other consoles, IMO developer just can\'t resist the 11 million consumers (predicted to be on March) of PS2, would you?

We still can\'t really speak of what consoles would be in the "final showdown" but I think it will be PS2 and Gamecube.Just like old times.Sony and Nintendo.

Your thinking is a little bit flawed. If it were old times, then it would be Nintendo and Sega.

No, I haven\'t. I didn\'t even know they had a commercial for it.

I think Nintendo is defenitly on the right track. Ecept for the Casing which can still be changed. If u figure out the math with the mini-DVDs that on a 6:1 compression ratio you can fit about 7 gigs on 1 side of a mini DVD instead of 4.7 with no compresson. The panasonic version of GC will have a DVD player in it just to satify those people who want a DVD player. The reason that is keeping me from getting a PSX2 is because of the price. I don\'t need a DVD player with my console and it shoots the price way up. Now if they would have had 2 versions like Nintendo will have then I would probally own one pretty soon. $300 is just to much for me to pay for a system.
