New details surface on Capcom\'s latest chapter in the highly successful Resident Evil saga.
January 5, 2001
It seems like Capcom is only willing to talk about Resident Evil 4 once a year. Last year we brought you first news of the game\'s existence during the first Capcom Gamers\' Day, and this year we also gleaned a few evil morsels from the Capcom crew. Resident Evil 4 is alive and well, we learned today. The fourth true chapter in the Resident Evil series is in development in Japan, Capcom said yesterday at its Second Annual Gamers\' Day, held in Las Vegas, Nevada at the Venetian Hotel.
But what\'s interesting is that Capcom has begun a slightly new publishing tactic. To maximize its R&D and production resources in the future, Capcom executives said that it will begin publishing (like it did in the early PS and Saturn days) titles on multiple systems. With at least four potential blockbusters arriving solely on PlayStation 2 in 2001, Resident Evil 4 looks like it will arrive on PlayStation 2 -- and possibly other next generation systems -- in 2002. This chapter in being developed in-house at Capcom, with Shinji Mikame at its helm, and should pick up where the narrative left off at the end of Resident Evil 3.
We\'ll have more on RE4 in the near future.

Sweeeet. But why isn\'t it called 5? Nemesis and Code Veronica both weren\'t numbered, so why does Nemesis \'count\', but CV doesn\'t?
-
I thought that CV was just a spin off...and what people are saying how it should be the Real RE3 and not nemesis. I don\'t think CV was ever intended to be a direct part of the story.
Bah I don\'t really mean that but I can\'t think of the words to say it right.
-
CV was a spin off. Not part of the main story . CV was about finding Chris and that was the main part of the story. Nemesis was considered to be the third, but I never saw it as one, as it was a PREQUEL to number 2.
:)

Time line...
Resident Evil
Start of Resident Evil Nemisis
Resident Evil 2
End of Resident Evil Nemesis
With CV happening whilst the end of resident evil nemsis is happening.
In terms of games it would list as
Resident Evil
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil Nemesis
Resident Evil 4
With CV being a spin off of the series.

You forgot the GC exclusive Resident Evil Zero, which came before Resident Evil, then Resident Evil came, then Nemesis, which lead to Resident Evil 2.
Capcom is good with convulted storylines that have nothing but prequels that make less sense.:)

interesting news...

I didnt forget, i was going to add it but it hasn\'t been released yet and it thought that you guys might pick up on that :) hehe
There was also Resident Evil in development for game boy colour, shame they scrapped that project as it looked pretty sweet.
-
hehe yeah you guys pretty much nailed it right on what I was trying to say.
-
It states in CV that it takes place 2 months after RE2.

I see, I\'m sorry, I was mistaken.
Still, CV was just as relevant to the RE timeline as Nemesis, numbered or not.

Its important to the series. But, is considered a spinoff. Sort of like Star Trek and then Babylon 5 or whatever.
Just a spin off, of the main story, that delves into more of the characters and such.
