On a PC ...
No problem.

Well if you can emulate it, your GeForce 3 64MB (yeah, let me spell it out for ya G-E-F-O-R-C-E 3!) with 256 RAM 1.3 GHz P!!! couldn\'t even get more than 2 fps! :nut:

You meant 200 FPS I guess.

Well, in a few months after the Xbox release PC hardware would be so much more powerful that I hardly think it would be a problem emulating Xbox. Perhaps not at full speed, but technically it shouldn\'t be too hard.
Ah, just imagine the PC hardware in year 2002... *drools*

how easy will it be to emulate the Xbox?
I hope you don\'t mean on the PS2. You may as well try to do it on the PSX. Sure it may not be 3X as powerful but there is no way on earth the PS2 could emulate the X-box. you need hardwae that is far more powerful to do a proper emulation. Newest rumors say that the Xbox should be able to emulate PSX,PS2 and DC. But they\'re just rumors.

Right Sam, I didn`t say when it would be possible to emulate the XBox.
Anyway, there will be enough games that will be either ported from PC to XBox or vice versa. So why emulate it?

I agree, within 5 or 6 monthes after the x-box comes out it should actually be a no brainer for pc\'s to emulate it. Hell, most new pc\'s now even are upgradable to 512 ram !
Wonder how long it will be before the whole game can just be shoved on into the ram !!! I\'m sure they would still find some way to make unbearable load times though

Can\'t argue with that, X Box is just very similar to a PC, the "minor" difference is that it\'s a pure gaming bliss machine, yeah baby :p

I don\'t think we\'ll see xbox emulation for a long time. It\'s using a shared memory thing with 6.4 GB/s of bandwidth available to the whole system. No v-ram or anything. I don\'t think it will be possible to emulate it until you have a pc that can give you a similar amount of bandwidth from system memory. PC133 sdram only gives you 1 GB/s of bandwidth. DDR sdram would give you 2.1 and dual channel rambus will give you 3.2 GB/s. Unless emu authors figure out how to get all the video related stuff onto the graphics card than it will be a long wait. If they do figure out how to do it, then of course, we could see emulation pretty quickly.

Emulating the XBox on a PC is going to be much harder than you would think. First of all, the RAM bandwidth on the XBox is far faster than current PC design even has plans for. Also, it will take a PC at LEAST 2X as powerful as the XBox to emulate it, simply because closed end system (ie, consoles) can really extract all the power from the design. With an open end home PC design, the hardware will only ever run as fast as the weakest component.

I agree about extraction on a closed design, but...
I bought my pc about 2 years ago (333mhz, ati rage pro turbo, and 64 meg ram), and right now the average pc is 3 times more powerful. A year ago the average pc was twice as powerful easily.
The pc market moves very very fast and it won\'t be long at all before the average pc is way more powerful than the x-box. I know people are going to say the graphics card is 2 generations ahead, but how long is a generation in pc terms ? 5 monthes, 6 ?
Anyhow we should be getting back to ps2 topics, these can all be read over at msxbox im sure
