Microsoft is unleashing it\'s beast and the manditory hype along with it. Everybody seems to be thinking XBOX, halve the posts in this PS2 forum alone have been about XBOX. Where\'s the huge marketing push by Sony and the increase in shipments to fight of there biggest threat? What is Sony doing to insure their #1 spot for a second generation?
What do you guys think? Is sony doing enough to fight of Microsoft, if not what do you think they need to do?
The only thing I\'ve heard about are threats of no more shipments to stores who advertise for Xbox. That proves Sony sees the possible trouble, but they need to do something to persued us and the masses when they finally get wind of the XBOX.

Damn rock selling out............ its all his fault .
-
Sony needs to focas on the Re-Launch In March (In America anway). If they sell that out in weeks then they have a huge advantage not only over microsoft, but nintendo and of course Sega.
I sure hope Microsoft gets beaten for once.
-
March is when sony will counter attack all of this stupid hype. Some AAA title are coming! The games will decide this console war, and Sony has them! (If Microsoft doesn\'t steal them first!)
-
I don\'t think Sega will continue to be a big factor against
Sony. They already threw their biggest blow while the PS2 shortage during christmas. With dwindling support, Sega going multi-platform, and 2 other largely hyped systems being released Sega\'s out of the race as an opponent to Sony. Unless of course by some wierd circumstance sony ends up in 3rd (yeah right....Though I guess anything IS possible.

Yep, the WWF sold out to Microsoft, although WWF games will be on PS2, but this is a promotion deal for the system.

IF they really sold out, why would the WWF still promote games on all of the other Next-gen systems? Wouldn\'t they scrap all of the other projects! Imagine all the money THQ would lose without other Next-gen systems to support. The WWF is THQ\'s ace-in-the-hole on all the other systems. Considering THQ does not make many AAA games at all!
Also, the WWF is in the business to make money. Why else would they have done all of the voting campaigns? To boast PUBLIC opinion! That is why they have toned done the shows, removing all racy characters like Val Venis and the Godfather! Public opinion is everything! They will do ANYTHING to make money!

Of course there will be more topics about XBox. The thing just got unveiled this morning, and people are very excited about it. I don\'t think you were here when the GC was partly unveiled at SpaceWorld (some of the controller hasn\'t bee shown yet, and some other things haven\'t been revealed). When GC was unveiled there were a lot of GC topics also. It will die down in a matter of days.

I remember those moments! Back then I just read all of the posts. It seemed like every post was about the gamecube! I stoped reading for a few days, and they were gone! Magic I guess :)

Sega is NOT going multiplatform, and DC sales are going fine.
-
What are the sales figures for the dreamcast in American.
In the middle of last year it was reported that over 3 million were sold. And now its almost 3 million.
Whats the exact figures ????
-
Pick up the latest copy of EGM. Sega is going multi-platform, however they will still support the DC and the DC will geat all there blockbuster exclusives while other systems will get games latter after their released for DC.
I don\'t post anything as fact unless I know it to be fact. I love sega, I don\'t want them to fail, but they are loosing money and need to do something about it. This is just a way to make money for them so they can keep going.
-
EGM is just reporting the same multi platform rumor that spread a short while back. It\'s NOT true.
And I am not sure of the exact number of systems, segaweb.com has stated on multiple occasions leading into the holiday season, that DC has sold more than 4 million consoles in NA, and could get to the magical 5 million number this holiday season. Did they make it? I don\'t know, but Sega\'s sales were up 12.2 % over the same time last year, and we know DC had a great holiday sell through thanks to Sony\'s fowl up, so It wouldn\'t be a stretch to assume they are at 4.5 million systems easily.
-
hmmmm is DC sale really going that well? I know that KMART no longer sells them. They decided to not sell Dream cast systems anemore cuz they werent selling.
As for Xbox............why rock? WHY?!??!?
Aneways Xbox is all hyped up and everything but we havent really seen anething all that great. What games have we seen so far? Halo? Anething else? NO. I doubt Xbox will blow sony away. It may be 3X more powerful, but we havent seen ane games on it yet so dont believe the hype.
-
I don\'t think that K-Mart is racking up the sales in PS2s either, considering that they have none to sell because of Sony. K-Mart was stuck with PSXs and N64s to sell for the holiday season because they are idiots. :)
BTW, I wouldn\'t be insulting Sega\'s sales considering the PS2\'s software sales in Japan...

Microsoft already dominates PC\'s in OS -system business. Microsoft IS completely the OS -business.
Now I do not want any console to dominate console -markets. Not X-box, not PS2, not GC, not DC. Then there would be no competition wich would mean less games, higher prices etc.
Microsoft is about to unleash the beast itself and they\'re quite sure it to trash every other console. But I think that is not it. There is many Sony fans out there and now when Sony gets their shipments under control ( and when they are going to ship huge amounts of the console ) plus the most awaited games PS2 will have a huge success.
But microsoft is aware of this and what I am afraid is that they will start marketing their console the moment Sony is at its weakest... just before the re-launch...
EDIT: I can see the ads. "Wait a Year and get better" -X-Box
"X-Box X-Box X-box... what more could you ask?"
"The most awaited product to hit the shelves next year... X-box"
-
Look back to the DC launch, Sony was saying the PS2 was the next best thing since sliced bread and the hype said it would put Sega out of buisines. Did that happen?
Microsoft will bring their system out and have as much success as everybody else, and next generation they will be a respected member of the gaming community, just like Sony. The American consumer will not be stupid enough to let anyone dominate again like they let Sony hold a practical (yes they did) monopoly over the gaming industry. I don\'t think anyone wants to see the sheer amount of mediocrity that plauged a lot of PSX software and the increased competition of Sega, Nintendo, and now Microsoft will put that problem to an end.
This generation will not be handed to Sony on a silver platter this time and us, the consumers, will be the true victors this generation. We have arrived people, lets just enjoy ourselves instead of arguing like children.

.......
Considering that Nintendo owns the majority (more than Sony, even) of the gaming market, I don\'t see how Sony has had a monopoly...

got a point there.
over in england there is only 1 advert that has been on the tele for the ps2 and thats the "third place ad". Sony must have something pretty big up their sleeves if they are to dominate the market this year.
-
It was reported that DC sold 500,000 Dreamcast\'s last year in December. With 12% added onto that + about 3 million they already had, that equals about 3,551,000 Consoles. Something tells me that Sega is still very much in line with Sony, actually further ahead.

kmart is dead they have been killed by walmart where i live.
walmart still has dreamcast, finally in its own case.
-
you cant really tell who\'s going to be victorous until all the systems are out and have been producing games for awhile, like ps and n64 and saturn. I couldnt tell you who would win, I havent played all the ps2 games and none of the x-box games....and with the rock thing...it all comes down to money...if you were offer 10 million to say a few words on a piece of paper, would you do it?

Sony doesn\'t have to a damn thing, no marketing push or notheing right now.
The PS2 is is extremely high demand and stores aren\'t having any troubles selling out regularly
So tell me why in the world would Sony need to waste advertising money right now. Just because Xbox and MS showed off its wares. Sony is planning the March "Re-Launch" and you can bet they\'ll have some serious ads going next Christmans when supply will be plentiful and the advertising will actually pay off.
Sony\'s advertising push will come, but its a complete waste of money and effort to worry about that now because advertising is for selling a product and making it known, this is not Sony\'s or the PS2\'s problem.
relax
Also of course Xbox is on alot of our minds, its a powerful machine that plays videogames, and thats why we\'re here on this forum because we love to play video-games.
Why wouodln\'t be on our minds

Hmm... weren\'t all the X-Box fanboys supposed to come in here and rub squares support in our faces? Funny how Square never made an announcement at CES. I kinda find that funny. I remember a month ago everyone said "Square will announce X-Box support at CES and all you Sony fanboys will be sorry blah blah..." Gee, I wonder what happened

Sega is going multi-platform? And where did you get this? Why is it these rumours never stop dying even after every company involed in the rumours denies them and says it is a misunderstanding? Geeze. Sega is not going multi-platform.
And Sega still has plenty of good titles coming out this year and so on. So they will continue to sell quite a few DCs.
Sony is re-launching in March and will sell alot of units then and such.
Its pretty simple really.:)
E3 will really dictate which of the GC or Xbox will have the better launch. I say that, because we should get word on some launch titles there, hopefully.

Don\'t believe sega\'s going multi platform?
Get the new EGM, go to page 34 and READ.
Summary of important points relating to this topic:
(sorry if I forget something)
-Sega named least profitable company in Japan (even under
a company who caused 14,000 cases of food poisining from bad
milk). Sega has now brought in new people to re-think their future.
-Sales are strong in the US but still horrible in Japan, still causing losses forcing sega to take action
-plan:(I\'ll skip most of it and get to the point.)
qoute of picture caption directly from EGM: "The proof is out there-this slide was part of a presentation for gaming journalists in Japan held in November. Step three clearly states (in japanese) that part of segas future does include development for "other consoles.""
i don\'t have a scanner or digital camera so I can\'t get you the picture, but you can go to your local bookstore and check it out youselves if you don\'t believe me. Also, they will still support Dreamcast. Dreamcast will get the big titles first and other systems will get older games (possibly even some saturn games!). So this doesn\'t mean they are giving up, it just means they aren\'t gonna let their competition make them go bankrupt, they are simply taking action. I love sega and wouldn\'t post this if I hadn\'t found out it was the truth. Why don\'t you believe me?

Goddamn! You DONT LISTEN do you? It\'s the misquote from before! GET OVER IT! EGM is wrong. SEGA replied to the other platforms statement, it wasn\'t other consoles, it was other platforms, and it was about dvd players etc, NOT OTHER GAME SYSTEMS! Stop spreading rumors.
-
Magazines that cover consoles and pc\'s always do things like this. I can\'t count the number of times I\'ve read a rumor on a website, read the post a few days later where they admit they were wrong, and then read the original rumor in a magazine a month and a half later under a heading like "breaking news: Microsoft buys sony." They work with huge lead times and almost never bother to fix descredited rumors before they put out an issue.
